My 6000 was a little over a year old and the board went out. They replaced it under warranty. About 6 months later, it has started acting up again. I could get it to work sometimes by rapidly sliding the switch, so i wanted to check the magnet switch. With datamars permission (didn't want to void the warranty) I opened the case and the magnet was in place as it should be, but it's getting dark spots exactly where you pointed at at 4:45. Not a happy camper. Should have taken your warning, but I was looking for a higher powered fencer to use on ac or dc and it fit the bill. I see they now retail for 519. I picked mine up for 370. Good deal, but only a deal if it lasts. Doesn't seem like that'll be the case! Guess I'll be sending it in, again!

They're just junky made units internally. Speedrite is living off their name and reputation from 15-20+ years ago when they're stuff was built to last. If they can't fix it or it's too costly or whatever, just give up on there brand and look at a different brand and model. I can help you choose something that will likely last longer and it's repairable if something does ever happen to it.

I'd honestly like to know what their internal failure rate is on their stuff, I bet it's fairly high. All their current models, 12000i and smaller, are built the same way as this unit is.

Any brands you recommend? How about cyclops?

Cyclops are decent units, just don't go crazy and buy the most expensive cyclops just because you can afford it. Gallagher is another brand that's really well made too. They do cost more than the Cyclops, but they also carry a 3 year warranty vs cyclops 1 year warranty. Gallagher is my number 1 for reliability and cyclops is a decent 2nd place.

What can we do? Our 6000i is starting to show issues. Shocks every other time, every 3 times. Bought it 4 years ago. $1000 Canadian dollars.

I would check the inside where the transformer connects to the terminals on the inside and see if anything is arcing or loose.

6000i is $1,700 in Australia!

That's crazy.... They sell for $600 +/- here, US dollars. They're built in New Zealand, so I would've though it wouldn't had been so bad right across the water from you guys, so that's pretty crazy on the price. I could only imagine what the larger joule ones go for....

If you ever need parts for a speedrite, get a hold of me via email [e-mail] I can get you parts and even with shipping down there, would be cheaper to fix than to buy a new one at those prices and they're not that hard to fix.

@@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity it is crazy, It's not much dearer to buy a new unit than have them repaired here. I don't actually have an 6000I , was looking at a replacement for my thunderbird mb560r that's having a board replaced.

You might look at the Gallagher brand. Better quality than speedrite, but aren't cheap to buy either.

Yes there's audio. I can hear it just fine on multiple devices and the computer.
