Oblique Seville took down Noah Lyles over the 100m Dash in a PB of 9.82 seconds at the Racers Grand Prix. This race was pivotal for Jamaica as Seville is arguably carrying the mantel for the men’s hopes in terms of potential sprint medals in Paris later this summer. Will this translate to success at the Olympics?

Alfred still isn’t a medal threat unless one of the top five are not well. The problem isn’t that Alfred doesn’t have the talent to win Gold in most Olympics…the problem is we have someone tapping into upper 10.7’s for the first time in life, compared to a woman who has run 10.54 and some low 10.6’s, a woman who has repeatedly run 10.6, a woman who has run 10.65 once and brings her A-Game, and a woman who has an on paper 10.65 PB we all know can run much faster than that, combined with 10.71 TaLou. That’s five spots right there where those runners would have to be way off their game to allow a mere “just touched 10.7” runner to beat them all at the same time. Julien looks amazing…just we usually don’t even see ONE of those ladies hardly ever, and now, we’ve got five at the same time! It’s the same with the guys right now…all these guys who have run 10.7, and most 10.8’s…it is so hard to determine who will win.

@michaelmaxwell2464 take into account that Glen Mills made that statement a day before Jamaica trials 2022, when the reporter asked what he can expect from Seville at the trials, he said Seville will run 9.6 or faster so he was clearly referring to what Seville will produce at trials, not years in the future. Seville ended up running 9.88 for second place behind Yohan Blake, so Glen Mills prediction far off, not that I was really looking to see Seville run that fast, tho. Even now, in 2024-2025, I still don't see him running as fast as Bolt.

@trackuniverse9121 Glen Mills is his coach, so he should know. Should I remind you that he's the same person who coached the legendary Usain Bolt? Relax Barbie and just watch how things play out.
@trackuniverse9121
@trackuniverse9121 2 ай бұрын
@lanettewilliams7122 Yes, Glen Mills is the one who coached Usain Bolt to succeed on the international scene. But you can't give him all the credit for Usain Bolt success since Usain has been very good since his teenage years. You have to also give Usain Bolt a lot of the credit for his own success, too. Usain Bolt has been an anomaly since his high school years before he even met Glan Mills. He's the first teenager in history to go sub 20.00 in the 200m when he ran 19.93, which is insane on many levels. Glen Mills harnessed that phenomenal talent, which is Usain Bolt, and took him to the highest level, but he's not the one who built the talent. Like I said, Usain has been an anomaly from before he started being coached by Glen Mills. It's unrealistic to compare Seville with Usain and expect him to run as fast as he did just because he has the same coach. Seville running 9.6 or faster is clearly an exaggerated comment by Glen Mills. Seville is well capable of going mid 9.7 but definitely not 9.6 or faster. Also, you should take note that Glen Mills has made that statement a day before Jamaica trials 2022, so he was clearly saying Seville would run that time at the trials, not years in the future.
@trackuniverse9121
@trackuniverse9121 2 ай бұрын
@lanettewilliams7122 can't compare Oblique with Usain or think Oblique can run as fast as Usain did just because he has the same coach. Your way of thinking is very shallow, can't blindly believe just because Glen Mill said so.....Usain Bolt has been a freak of nature since his high school years before he joined Racers. Don't forget the phenomenal 20.13 and 19.93 that he ran as a teenager. Usain talent is out of this world, It's very unrealistic to think Oblique will run as fast as Usain did just because he has the same coach. You have to remember that Glen Mills did not build the talent. He harnessed the talent, Usain has been an anomaly since his high school days. You have to give Usain some credit too for his own achievement.

Winning Championships is about so much more than just running fast, so it's hard to make accurate predictions from the small sample size of races we've had so far this season. It's also about who handles the conditions the best, who has the support staff in place, who handles pressure better than the rest, who's hungriest for the win, who's done it before and know's how to win despite the competition, some would say a bit of luck in getting drawn in the easier semifinal etc. There's so many variables that go into winning the 100m at Worlds and Olympics. It's hard to say based on what we've seen from Seville, Lyles, Simbine, Coleman, and Tebogo earlier in the year.(hope he comes back mentally and physically healthy after the death of his mom). Paris is going to be interesting.

Its been clear for awhile that Alfred was gonna be a force especially after how she held nerves after bad start to win 60m at World Indoors plus Alfred was built in flames of Boys and Girls champs not surprised she ran fastest time on what could be considered home track. Could 2024 be Seville year like Amusan after many 4th places WR and World title finally in 2022? Qith Lyles already at 9.85 see him going faster maybe even 9.7s if he fix that awful start which probably wont but i wont read much into Seville performance he has ran well in Jamaica many times but never translate outside his best tome outsode of Jamaica 9.88

The field seems a little short of pure 100m runners. Aside from Seville, Coleman, and Simbine, most of the top 100m runners seem to be 200m runners stepping down to 100. I'm thinking that Seville turns out to be the fastest of those three this year.

Your argument is inconsistent, funny that it’s easier for Lyles to get to 9:7 than do Seville, despite the slow and the low 9:8! Let’s be clear…Lyles like everyone else is a MEDIOCRE 100m runner! At the lower end of mediocre too! At this point 9:7 is stellar and no one is there consistently and Lyles has never been! Curb your enthusiasm bro! Or you better call Saul! It’s certainly not Justified! At the moment Lyles will be lucky if he makes the podium! Sure things fell into place in Budapest but I don’t expect lightning to strike twice!

spider-man1918:. True about the fast gun. Noah just pointed out how fast the gun was, and he said that other racers felt that way. Mate, to watch this particular race and to even bring up the AR is hillarious. Fact of the matter is Lyles has not shown anything "new" compared to, say, Budapest 2023. His start is roughly on the same level and so is his 60...100m. I can see Lyles split 6.40s at 60m later in the season, I give you that, but 9.7s low and even the AR? Based in this race, I just don't see any of that.

What Im saying is that I don't think based on what we have see they he will run the record, but Its impossible for me to doubt lance and noah on what they think because I am not in practice seeing what they are seeing. The times and performances they are hitting in practice could indicate they are on pace for 9.69, but non of us know that for sure. So yes, I don't think he'll get to the AR, but if him and lance are saying their practices are pointing them in that direction, who am I to tell them they are wrong? Hope that makes sense. :)

The reality is the race is fairly meaningless with little pressure and it's easier to run relaxed here compared to Worlds or Olympics when u have to go thru rounds.
