Missed a big point in that Spartans were overall misunderstood in general. They never took off their armor(and when they did, they were sickly pale), they did inhuman feats of speed and strength, were absolutely massive(height and weight), were raised with military training which lead to them talking "like robots" or not much at all, could stand unnaturally still, and most of the details of what they went through or even the fact that they started as children were hidden from most people. They were overall incomprehensible to anyone without most of the facts. ODST training was incredibly difficult and the idea that there was something above them was difficult to mentally grasp.

John 117 absolutely misunderstood the situation that was at hand. This story comes from the book The Fall of Reach. Yes, it happens after an augmentation and John feels off because of his enhanced strength. He takes the pin and uses calculus to determine the weight divided by height and the pull of gravity to realize that the ship's gravitational rotation wasn't off, his body was. When the ODSTs entered and almost got injured by the unsecured weight pin, John tries to diffuse the situation politely. The ODSTs were the aggressors. When their CO told them to get into the ring, it was only then that John snapped into purpose because he was given orders to engage. After the devastating outcome, John approaches Chief Mendez confused at why he was seemingly in trouble. He was emotionally distraught because all he did was what he had been rigorously trained for since early ages of childhood; follow orders. That's when Chief Mendez gives the valuable wisdom that sometimes the orders aren't going to be cut and dry, black and white. Sometimes they'll be confusing or even conflicting, but they are orders nonetheless. The ODSTs were in the wrong by trying to engage John before a CO told them to resolve it in the ring. There is zero theory against John within the source material regarding this encounter because he lacked comprehensible knowledge of how extensive the augmentation was for his body and mind. This is a huge turning point mentally and emotionally for John's military career in that particular chapter.

@@IKMojitolol, cringe how? Do you know exactly how advanced the medical technology is in Halo? Because it doesn't seem like it. In the books, which go into much more detail, the UNSC is able to flash clone entire human bodies with sentience or just specific organs for surgery. Halsey flash cloned new organs before performing surgery on several Spartan 2s. So no, it is not cringe to think that healing paralysis is within their reach. Nor is it cringe to think that this technology is not available to the public as it is shown many UNSC citizens are completely unaware of the existence of flash cloning. ONI having used this tech to replace the young Spartan 2s with clones that would die soon after and thus covering up their kidnappings, so... also kinda have to mention how much better life expectancy is, with Sergeant Johnson being in his 70s but is still fit for active duty military service and looks at least three decades younger than his actual age.

Great point, the reality is that the hatred for Spartans is really misguided outrage with their leadership. Although if it ever got out that leadership purposely killed ODST’s for the sake of an experiment the outrage among the UNSC ranks would be immense. It’s a sad reality, but ONI is highly unethical. Unfortunately the covenant doesn’t have the word ethics in their vocabulary, so there’s that.
@Sinn01003 жыл бұрын
I love the ODST or "Hell Jumpers" as their skills on the battlefield are incredible. However, Spartans are legendary and in a class of their own. They can do what entire platoons of ODST cannot. Furthermore, without the Spartans ability to hold the line and win battles decisively...the ODST would have been wiped out along with all of humanity. I believe the Spartans deserve the superstar status they have earned through blood, sweat, and tears as the true deciding factor in destroying our enemies. That doesn't mean the Hell Jumpers or any other Marine doesn't deserve to be honored for their incredible bravery but we have to give credit where credit is due. Hopefully, we see an end to the needless feud between the ODST and Spartans. I don't think ODST has been made obsolete by the Spartan program. No more than the Navy Seals have made the Green Berets obsolete. They all have their roles and ODST far, far, far outnumber the Spartans.

As a veteran thank you for pointing out that in a fight we're fighting for each other. And the anger is most certainly misdirected at the Spartans. It would take a complete douchebag to tell hardened warriors because yes the ODST is the definition of a warrior to fight a child. It would take a bigger douchebag to fight a child, I don't pity those men. Nor do I pity the ODST who fell when they attacked Master Chief, they could have said no and disobeyed orders that were clearly a threat to humanity, instead they attacked.

Kinda feels similar. I was a Paratrooper. Friend was a Recon Marine. Each of us were very proud of our training and how we performed when compared to regular line units that we may train or be around. But because neither of us were part of SOCOM (Green Berets, Rangers, Seals, Raiders, etc.) we never actually DID anything that regular line infantry didn't do. So we kinda despise SOCOM. Not the troops in it, but that we "specialized" units are now irrelevant.
@1014p Жыл бұрын
If you were irrelevant the division would not exist. That said cross training from SOCOM, was not aware it involved many branches. To me seems like double dipping, but it was not all of them and not many in total.
@aaronrodden8121 Жыл бұрын
Force recon IS SOCOM operationally available and can be pulled under SOCOM in certain circumstances! Army rangers are the same! In fact, a few "units" are SOCOM compatible when the need arises for more man power, security and etc. they are just not "full-time" operators. Compare to the coast guard being under homeland security until the need arises and then the U.S. Navy takes control and for all intents and purposes they are a part of the U.S. Navy in its warfare activities.
