I miss the days where an album is so 🔥. That it has no skips and every song on the project has a potential to be a hit. A 4 to 5 mic in the source used to mean that album is going to be filled with Bangers and the label and streets determined if you were going to swim
@steelokey

There was never a time like that lol. Even some of the greatest albums like ‘the dedications’ by Lil Wayne have skips. It’s just there wasn’t so many skips. Now there is an entire album of skips & only 1 good songs. It is the opposite of how it used to be tho.

Singles aren't pointless at all and actually help with album sales. If people mess with the single before the album comes out then they'll have more anticipation to listen to the album if the singles are good.

The issue is whole album sales are not the norm as opposed to singles sales. When you can ala carte tracks you know you like, why would anyone pay more for an entire album they may only like the singles from? I hate the singles economy but this is how music is being consumed now.

I think this applies to where OFFSET is at this point in HIS career - he's big enough to put out a project and the fans/listeners decide what the hit is with few songs previously released from the project. For smaller artist it's the inverse till it's not.
@kdmj48
@kdmj48 9 ай бұрын
Naw bro think about it. I was thinking that at first too but think about it. Singles are good for his career actually because he already has the big fan base. Smaller artist should make dope albums, put them out correctly and then move to the next album while building your fans base. As new fans come on, they'll find your old music too. If you promoting one song as an unknown artist most people not even going to find that one song.

@@kdmj48 Offset is big enough to were he can implement a single or project based strategy (or mix both). But I’ll have to respectfully disagree with your point as I don’t think it applies to todays music sphere. Albums are never a bad thing, but it’s definitely better to have a group of single song releases from the POV as a fan discovering new music, than having a bunch of albums released as a small/unknown artist. Listening to a couple songs is easy, an album takes more time/commitment as a new fan/listener. I think this is why a lot of music heads mention “catalog” as this will include singles, EP’s, and albums. You build with singles that lead to the other two over time.

YOOO! I looove what that Jamaican dude said. You gotta keep putting music out, and over time, it builds like compound interest. Like he said, you'll find the hit along the way. I always keep in my head; "quanitity creates quality." And I like what you said at the end Curtiss, we as creators/artists/producers have to keep putting out work so then the ppl can have something to look back on... not sure if that's exactly what you meant but me personally, my channel is tiny and I make beat videos and literally no one is watching, yet. But I keep doing it cause I want to build that creative catalog aside from my music on Spotify, Apple, etc. Cause not only is it fun, first off, but you gotta have something for people to stay entertained and like you for what you do.

Didn't need to hear Offset say, "Let The Fans Pick The Hit Or Favorite Single." I said this years ago: you put out 12 songs with the track you as an artist have in mind as a favorite, and the fans will most of the time go in the other direction (FACT!)

This video is so freeing for me. I’ve spent sooo much time building a strategy for certain songs and have been holding back releases in order to choose my singles which is causing me not to release music as consistently as I probably should. Not saying I need to release every week but I can definitely release more often than I do. Especially when it comes to building a catalog. And although I’ve been doing music since a child, I’m really only four years into releasing music on streaming and KZbin so technically I’m a new artist which means I need more than the 2 albums and couple of singles I’ve put out. But this video unlocked something in my mind for me to re-strategize. Thanks for this 💯

I noticed with fandoms on Tiktok and Instagram fans will keep posting the songs that are their favorites. Doesn’t matter if it was a single or not. It’s important to at least have live performances of most of your songs so fans don’t have issues getting posts blocked for copyright. Studio versions of singles are the most heavily policed on KZbin and Instagram. Taylor Swift fan accounts (100K+ followers) get taken down all the time for copyright violations. She has so many fan accounts marketing for her now she’s unstoppable.

I think that depends on the genre. If u look at wlectronic music such as house, deep house, melodic house & techno etc... their realease format is usually as such: - single or an EP of 2 , 3 or 4 songs - a few months later: another EP - afew moths later: remixes of the first EP - then later remixes of the second EP - sometimes they release only radio edits of tracks, - then later or on a separate compilation the release extended versions of edits / remixes - then at some point, they release previously unreleased highly sought after tracks they have played in festivals .... - Basically they can work on several tracks then release them in batches progressively ..... - then a year or two later they release an actual LP / album comprised of original tracks that sometimes include extended versions of some previously released edits that never had their extended versions released ..... - Rinse and repeat, not particularly in the above mentionned order . . . Maybe this format only works with electronic music, because i havent seen that with mainstream genres . . .

The way this just opened my eyes. As someone who has been making music for "fun" for over a decade. The true reason I always said "for fun" is because, some projects are weird and I know its always a gamble putting out a song you invest so much in and it doesn't do the numbers you expected. I have a decent sized unreleased catalog. I might just push it to my couple of fans if they are still present and see wsup Lol.

Things sure have changed and that’s exactly why artists wanna sign those deals, tell the labels to cut out the 360 deals. We know they get part of that ad money for these streaming services, but are the artists getting a cut of that revenue? How do you go from dollars and cents to fractions of a cent? And then gotta give up part of everything else too? They’re literally cuffing all the artists that aren’t icons.

I get that mentality for an established artist. Bc they have a fan base lol. A brand new artist should focus on ONE song. When u first heard ur fav artists it was that ONE song. Then u wanted more. Then more. Then the album. Plus I feel if u wanna move the needle ur album needs HYPE around it. A single creates the HYPE. Its just the artist job to live up to the hype.

That’s not what they’re saying . The problem is we do not know which “one song” will work , especially as independent artist with little to no fanbase . I miss the days of artists having perspectives. I buy music to gain an outlook I may not have. Jay Z was asked if he would buy Marcy Projects and he said no because people wouldn't move up in the world they would stay there since his name would be attached to it. Listeners get so caught up in what they want from an artist that it could delay an artist growth. This is the point (I believe) Joe Buddens was trying to make with Drake. I don't totally agree with it all but there is SOME truth there.

Preview the album to fans and critics, producers…get the feedback. Adjust a bit. Let it fly. Release it. Ultimately, make a good record!!! Personally, I always felt dropping singles as an underground artist (a nobody) is a waste of time. I just release full length albums and create the wave that way. Artists like Gucci Mane, Curren$y, and Lil B made me see that you don’t need to have a radio single. I record myself, I release myself, I make my own cover art, I do everything. Like Jamaican dude said, I chose to build the catalogue. I used to drop 4-6 albums a year, now it’s just once a year.

Strange question if you read these: About those Super Fans that artists say they want... how come when a fan becomes a Super Fan of an up and coming... the Artist always brushes them off and makes them feel bad for being a fan??

I would say because there’s a difference between an up and comer and an independent artist. Independent artists understand the value of a superfan and do everything in their power to accommodate and make them feel special. One doesn’t become a superfan by accident, it’s alway by effort and that artist over delivering on their value. Up and comers don’t always respect the things they know internally they haven’t earned.

You should switch sides on obs. Sense your facing toward the right you should be on the left and he should be on the right cause he's often angled to the left lol...
