Let's be honest, Fletcher is an immature man-child who spends his time bullying people twenty years younger than him who have no recourse against him. lt only seems like he has it together because he is in a position of authority in every scene, and still misuses that authority to the point that he loses it. He's also a terrible musician himself as we see near the end of the film when he's on piano, while insisting that his students be legendary virtuosos. He completely fails in his goal and basically screws himself out of ever being able to achieve it. The only time in the whole film he is able to smile is when his student succeeds by TAKING CONTROL AWAY FROM HIM, which Fletcher tries but fails to prevent. In other words, he actively works against his goal which is only achieved when his own student punks him after Fletcher tried to humiliate him in an act that served no purpose other than petty revenge. Fletcher is a failure of a man and probably the single worst teacher in fiction. If he wasn't played by an incredible actor, everyone would recognise this. omni-man probably even worse tho
