I just thought he was banished for being too extreme when it comes to Halloween. Because in the song they said "that's our job but we are not mean in our town of Halloween", and then later on Oogie Boogie said "it's much more fun I must confess with *lives* on the line" so I thought he was okay with killing people while the town just wanted to scare people. While Boogie was okay with ending lives the town wasn't so they kicked him out.

I like your theory. I had my own theory about what happened: So, in the opening song “This is Halloween”, they say “Life’s no fun without a good scare. That’s our job, but we’re not mean, in our town of Halloween.” And you can see from the citizens themselves that, even while they make all of these toys that scare the bejeezus out of children, they aren’t doing it to be malicious, they actually think that the children will love their gifts. Their intentions are never to hurt anyone. However, Oogie Boogie knows that he hurts people. He tortures and maims and kills people. He intended to kill Santa Clause and Sally. I think that he was banished because he was genuinely cruel to the citizens of Halloween Town and possibly hurt or killed someone. Jack, being the caring person he is, would be very protective over his people. Since Jack is the king of scares, he most likely put Boogie’s worst fears into him and told him to leave and never return. That’s why Boogie only makes a move after Jack has become so preoccupied with Christmas that he wouldn’t notice Boogie plotting. That’s my theory.

Nah that makes no sense. Why would Jack let Boogie and his minions physically stay if that was the case? And Boogie never made a move, all he did was mess with a already kidnapped Santa. He had no plans of leaving the room to take back the Town. All he plotted was Santa's death, which he would still do even if he knew Jack was in town. How would Jack ever find out about that? The Gameboy version is a lot more realistic and practical to the universe

Jack Skellington and Zero have always been my favorites. I always had the impression that Oogie was jealous of Jack or something. But I always knew that Jack and Oogie Boogie were archenemies!

I thought that it was because Oogie-Boogie was too dangerous, perhaps even having killed someone. @@sandragordon9496 There were older characters. Like the one who was forgotten and turned to ash or even Coco's mom who (while not as old) was still older than 30 for sure. Most of the characters we saw were out partying and were likely a younger crowd. Just like in real life. Whereas older ones are probably more serious about their visitations. And yes, people died younger the further back you go. Just because Coco takes place in the present doesnt change the fact that people who died in the past were younger. Death at the time of the movie kind of requires you to be gone before the current time. Though if there absolutely had to be a theory around this I'd say it would have way less to do with your happiest moment and more that given her family's situation-she was the only one alive who remembered her father. So she held on, unable to share her love for him because of her family's taboo and then her own ailing body and memory.

YES! Oogie's my favorite, so that's a RESOUNDING yes. PLEASE do discuss his returns! However... I AM a bit confused with Disney's choice of Oogie's past holiday. I mean, I kind of get it. You know, "Bug Day" and Oogie is full of bugs... But like... I think if you go down the Burton route and not the Disney canon, if Burton would have had full control over Nightmare with Selick at his side, no Disney involved except as the distributors, you would likely have to research the evolution and history of the ACTUAL Halloween holiday, like I've done. I always knew Jack had banned Oogie but more so because there was a time in human history when the old roots (Samhain) and the new sprout (Hallowmas/All Hallows/Halloween) fought for control in popularity. I always figured there had been some kind of election with an outcome based on the reaction of the human world that had resulted in Oogie becoming marginalized, much like Samhain actually had happen. My other grounds for thinking this was a possibility is because Oogie runs on bugs, which have always served our world with various functions in nature like pest control or decomposition. You know the natural order of things. And those that initiated Samhain to begin with had strong beliefs in the forces of nature and of darkness. Another thing is that he is made of burlap, in a sack shape. Natural materials like that, as most of us probably know, were used in making bags and baskets to help carry crops to market or store them for the Winter and those that initiated Samhain were also typically farming communities where this was a common sight. Oogie also appears to be more frightening than Jack at times, which goes back to their fear of things that went bump in the night that helped inspire the Samhain festivities. Jack, on the other hand is an adorable grinning skeleton with a high level of curiosity. The festivities always had some notion of a connection to the dead, but it was not until about 200 years after the first attacks on Samhain that Halloween began to emerge as we now know it. During this change, the old motif of the human skeleton was slowly picked free from the past and began to be used as a common Halloween image, initially by way of people migrating from carving turnips to carving pumpkins into what they understood to resemble the face of a human skull- hollow sockets, triangular nose, GRINNING mouth. As I said, Jack is often grinning and it may be notable that his head is more rounded (almost more like a perfect white pumpkin) than a real human skull. Then came the curiosity. Instead of completely fearing the monsters in the dark, by the 1950's, people began to become more curious about them with the onset of the first waves of science fiction and horror in Hollywood. This eventually gave way to slasher films and then, reflecting on some of the adult themes of Halloween from the 1800's, some began to use Halloween for movements to support marginalized communities like LGBT+, for example. We began to therefore explore ourselves- our own darkness. Curiosity had set in. This is all why I had likened Jack to representing "present day" Halloween.

I watched a video of theories of how the characters died and oogies makes me like him more as a character. The theory is that he was Skinned alive and left which is why he's made of bugs, the fabric he's made of is like rough string which is what bugs can't chew through. As much as i like the enthusiasm i doubt a game on a gameboy has anything to do with the story. It could have simply been oogie was former king of Halloween town, but because of his sadistic ways, jack overthrew him to make Halloween town a better place hence the lyrics in the opening theme, something about them being nice although they are scary monsters.

Could Bing Bong live on in The land of the dead. Before you say its for people. .what about that winged Jaguar did he start as an imaginary friend. He people even status . if Riley made a doll of Bing Bong could he live on as a doll we know kids imagination brings toys to live . so when Riley was done with him could go on living his own life . by Toy Story4 could have a village of toys out grown and decided to live out on their own

I always kinda theorized that everyone in the town has a instinct fear of jack why maybe if we go by the theory that Halloween town was once a much more horrible place with denizens that would.tesr people apart for fun maybe jack came back one day and just started taking over I mean the dude can transform from a scarecrow to his normal form stretch his mouth wide open with the help of his fingers so in conclusion I always thought that jack was the king because he took over the town and made it better but everyone has that sense of fear of him because of how powerful he is but they also love him because he doesn't use that power to make them his slaves or what ever instead he allows them to do more things and this is reason why oogie was afraid of jack because he was so insanely powerful
