Why Overwatch 2 Is WAY WORSE Than Overwatch 1

Also at 4:30 I meant to say Individual not personal, (No way am I a high rank lol) if you're in bronze you most likely will go against bronze-gold players but in an extreme case where a high level player only ever does placements each season they may start ranked Diamond but end up in bronze because of the forced De-ranks. This kind of player would be playing games against plat-diamond players even though they're in bronze because their MMR did not change from when they were actually diamond ranked. That's because MMR is the only thing taken into account when finding a match in ranked, not your actual rank.

No double-shield = OW2 infinitely better. Double shield was cancer. Don't care about skins because I play the game for ranked (real ranked, not fake Open Queue "ranked") and don't care about playing dressup. Loot boxes are now illegal in many countries and are being looked at being made illegal in America so they had to go Map pools in OW2 are awful. Just a braindead decision on Blizzard's part. The ranking system in OW2 is bad Still, 5v5 is just so much better than 6v6. Double shield was not fun and they were never going to fix it This all could have been avoided if they had just given us a ban system.

True to an extent, I’ve tried to make a point of saying “great heals” when I see supports with more heals than damage has dps and I’ve seen a fair amount of other people doing the same which is nice to see. Losing end cards definitely hurts discourse at the end of the game like that though. It was honestly one of my favourite little things when I wasn’t in a rush to get games done.

The "On Fire" point is so small and seemingly insignificant, but you're COMPLETELY right. Who's feelings were hurt by you being on fire??? It really did add something to the game when you got a huge play, or had a long steady stream of contribution during a given fight, such that your character was on fire. The look of the portraits when you pressed tab to see which player(s) just wrecked face was honestly engaging and eye catching. And as a matter of fact it's a big reason I switched the team colors. Now that it's gone it truly does just feel less fun and engaging to do well in game

No better satisfaction after winning a fight than getting that "Bssshhhwhoooom" sound effect and seeing your character portrait light up with fire. That's a tell-tale sign that you did well and there's no doubting it. Now, DPS can farm a Roadhog for 20k damage on the scoreboard and no one will actually know that because there's no other indicator for impact. At least when the Fire system existed, if you were never On Fire or can hardly maintain your MVP status, then you could've done better. Fire was only given out to impactful objectives like point contesting, high contributing elims, and hero-exclusive utility. Damage was irrelevant unless you actually get the elim. It's like Blizz wants to blur the lines between impactful plays and personal satisfaction, only to end up removing both.

To me the worst part is how the roster was homegonized. Both Cassidy and Bastion got abilities replaced with sticky bombs. Doomfist is now a generic tank rather than a crazy DPS. Bastion can no longer be set up in turret form which was really funny. And completely separately, they didn't address the glaring issue that no one wants to play healer.

Voice Chat has always been recorded in OW1, you can see that in the TOS for OW1. They just decided to announce it in game, I assume to "combat toxicity" (ironic how they don't actually tackle anything that is the cause of toxicity, they only do these weird attempts at things no one asked for). And it's not even that it's recorded anymore, it literally just transcribes everything and then deletes the recording, which I think is actually worse. Who knows how good their transcribing system actually is.

I've been playing the game on and off for the last few weeks. I mainly play support and having to win 35 games to unlock Kiriko when other players want you to play her is very demoralizing. Also some people suck. AND there are very few supports.

You'd think the very least they would let you pick which hero you want to unlock (like other F2P games) instead of having to win 250 games to get the one you want. For god sake even EA the greedest gaming compnay in the world lets you unlock the legend you want in Apex's Legend once you earn enough legend tokens (26 levels which is about 50-60 games) & they give free loot boxes about every 6th level. When your greed is worse then EA's you know there's a problem.

Hello, new player here. Because I was new and maining primarily support. I would play moira and mercy. But that didnt cut it and I had to learn Ana, lucio, and baptise. It’s so overwhelming, I thought going into OW2 was like maining your favorite character. But I have to counterpick, but in order for me to counterpick WELL, i have to master the character well. Or else its “support diff” I also have to understand like every other dps’s and tank’s abilities and ultimates. That way I can avoid, and counterpick well. In terms of lootboxes, they are terrible when you have to buy them. They really do negatively effect certain people. It's been proven by the science of psychology, also it was taught in game design courses and seminars as the go to way to milk players with addictive personalities. As a reward for leveling, they are excellent. Give someone a chance at getting a good skin, or a cool emote, etc. OW should have kept the $40~$80 price tag for the main game, kept lootboxes for level rewards and then charge $5~$10 to buy specific skins $1 for emotes/voice-lines and $2~$3 for highlight intros. Lootboxes would drop all the stuff you could buy, but if you had crap luck or were impatient you could shell out cash for the specific item you want. Gives players something to work towards and still gives blizzard money. A lot of games used to do similar stuff in the past, but selling the lootboxes instead of just straight up what the player wants was insanely more profitable.

Honestly the ranked season reset sucks. In overwatch if you get sent from diamond to silver for example, it takes half of the season just to get back to where you were and that’s only if you play the game a ton. I have 20 hours on dos this season with a 66% win rate and yet im still not back to where I used to be. The reason it works in other games but not overwatch is because other games that use it are typically battle Royale games and since points in those games are based on survival and kills you can get one match where you pop off and get say 500 ELO and every match you lose 50 ELO you get a LARGE gap there. Now in overwatch even if you have the best match of your life, you still win ~the same ELO that you lose per match.

Sadly, lootboxes are probably never coming back. The reason they were removed (from what I know) is because they have been outlawed in a lot of countries. And while I do think the out of game stuff has been a lot more boring than in ow1 (lootboxes, levels, etc etc.) I would say that gameplay wise, ow2 is a lot more fun than ow1, just that the one-shot heroes are kinda dumbing down the fun a bit here and there. It's a lot more fun shooting and killing players rather than their barriers, you know?

It's hard to strike a balance because OW2 is way too damage-oriented. The sole fact of only having 1 Tank in a 5v5 already dooms the game's state into a DPS snowballing meta where whoever can one-shot will be the meta pick. Seeing Blizz's reluctance on giving Sojourn any meaningful nerfs, it's not going to improve anytime soon.

I've been on the fench when it came to lootboxes, but whay they've should've done back OV1 was to allow people to buy the skins they wanted through both singular purchases or bundles while keeping the lootbox system for those who don't want to spend money. I can also understand why they changed to a battlepass as that is one of thr standard system for FTP games lately (Sea of Thieves does it, COD does it, you get it), but they should've either change to the proposed system I talked about or add more items to the battle pass for those who don't pay for it. (I forgot that Sea of Thieves was not Free to Play nvm, or has it changed? I can't remember)

let's not forget the basic math here, if Overwatch 1 just continued without taking the years long break to make Overwatch 2 we would have at least 6 new heroes by the time we reach October 14th which was the release of Overwatch 2. however we ended up with only 3 new heroes and one of them was locked behind a paywall for the first couple of weeks till ftp players reached rank 55. which is an absolutely big difference by now we should have 7 more heroes after Echo. however in terms of state of the game the quality of a match might be better now than OW1. i do really like 5v5 more than 6v6. but other than that i kinda dislike everything else they did.

Everything feels barebones now with no soul nor effort. Copy-pasting a game is fine. Awful because there was a clear advantage for one team but for ranked where both teams get to attack and defend I honestly thought it was a pretty fun game mode on all maps but I totally understand disliking it.

Every season; Blizzard teases alot of themed skins (Cyberpunk / Greek) But at the end of the day; only 2-3 of those skins make it in the battlepass; the rest go in the shop. I would MUCH rather have good skins in the battlepass than a hero; even if they doubled or tripled the price.

Honestly, I hear a lot of people saying that Overwatch’s 2 mistake was the free to play and, for me, this is an absolutely bullshit. A game being free to play doesn’t mean it need to have overwhelming prices for its cosmetics. Fortnite is a great example for this, Apex Legends still is rewarding besides the F2P and dammit, even Paladins is a somehow an ok example of rewarding you with the daily logins, a free skin in every battle pass that’s ACTUALLY good and the direct purchase that some cosmetics are available. The greatest mistake of Overwatch 2 is Blizzard itself, that keeps crapping their own game with disrespectful mechanics and terrible prices. It’s nonsense to blame the F2P, it actually brought a bunch of new players that couldn’t afford the original game and are now having fun with those characters and gameplay we love.

Man I am furious with that has happened with overwatch 1 and I am still glad I got to experience it in my life. We now know why Jeff left. Literally everything was better in Overwatch 1. Art style, Map design, Time to Kill was faster(You actually felt like you were playing a hero), Sound effects, UI design, elimination pop up. what we got with overwatch 2 is another game that wants to be fast paced e-sports, with bigger boring maps and season pass. Whilst, on average, OW1 and OW2 both needed 10k xp to gain 1 level, let's not forget the functional XP difference, thanks to how they gutted XP gain Compared to OW2, you could gain anywhere between two and ten levels in the amount of time it would take to gain a single battle pass tier. And that's with the free version. The difference ranged broadly from 32:1, and 160:1. This is inexcusable

I would ask someone to switch characters when they are sucking because the score card doesn't lie, get told to "stop crying" then get blamed when we ultimately lose even though I did my job on the score card. Yeah, agree with pretty much all of this. I have actively noticed I play less and enjoy less of my games. There have been basically two things that I actually really liked in OW 2, everything else is either near neutral or bad. 1 is that I can play on computer (technically a thing in OW 1 i just didn’t want to buy a second one) And the other us more heroes. I hate 5 v 5 (i play literally every role and nearly every hero so don’t come at me about heal or shieldbotting), the item systems is horrifically worse, the matchmaking is awful, they kept removing things (even heroes for like a week or so), and I find most of the few other new things just not that impressive. Especially for their price. I had been mostly playing OW, then 2 came out. And now I mostly just do the weeklies or maybe a custom game.

I'd say that liking the f2p model is actually the controversial opinion and not disliking it. Jesus christ, every level used to give you 4 items and now you just might not get anything by completing a "level" Also, the arcade gave 3 loot boxes per week by winning/playing (idr what it was) 9 games so around 2 hours for 12 items, maybe. The switch to f2p just ruined the game and yes, i know that cosmetics dont offer anything regarding gameplay but they're still part of the experience. I remember being excited about Sombra's face changing skin so much, i even wanted to buy loot boxes for it (although i ended up getting the drop from the FREE LOOT BOXES). I agree with everything in this video. And to add to the whole scummy monetization thing, don’t forget all the those charms and sprays whose real life counterparts cost less than Lol. Lucio-Ohs spray costs more than double an actual box of Lucio-Ohs that you can actually eat. The only thing that bothered me about the video.. About the dva ult thing; I've just been practicing with launching her mech so that I can reliably get long range ult kills because it's super satisfying. Also if it blows up mid-air anyone hiding behind a wall also gets killed so it has a higher chance of hitting more people (in less serious games)

In my opinion, overwatch 2s gameplay is overall better than overwatch 1, but the monetization is the worst I've ever seen in a game besides early star wars battle front 2 which is made by EA which says alot about how bad it is. I refuse to pay 20 for a skin.. A SKIN when in ow1 I could play for a few hours and get a legendary either through a loot box or the credits I earned during that time. oh, and also, the events are 100x worse in Ow2. The fact that fortnite does a better job than overwatch 2 is saying something. Fornite makes it to if you play through the entire battle pass you will get 1,500 v-bucks while the battle pass cost 950 well over the mark you can get the battle pass for free if you play 4 battle passes even if you’re a casual player EVEN THE CUSTOM GAMES GIVE YOU BATTLE PASS XP so if you’re good enough at the game to get top 10, 5 or 3 you can earn XP fast while overwatch 2 sucks at giving XP to casual players I’ve sunk way more hours into overwatch 2 than I have into fortnite yet I’m almost max level in fortnite and I’m barely half way through the battle pass in overwatch 2 what I’m saying is I have to grind to get anything done in overwatch 2 and in fortnite I can breeze right through and I don’t even like fortine that much it’s a meh game for me.

I was really exited when Overwatch 2 came out. The game was getting stale and I was excited to see all the new changes only to find the game mostly the same but worse in many areas. I enjoyed the game for a little while but without good progression (even after paying $10 for the season 1 battle pass) the game quickly became stale and not worth playing. What Blizzard is doing with the monetization is very scummy and I definitely miss loot boxes now. It is such a shame since I poured 1000+ hours into Overwatch 1 but most of the time I played was in 2017 and 2018. After that the game has always been on decline ever since. I had hope with this game being labeled as a sequel that the game would feel fun and new but all we got was a product worse than the original. Maybe I will come back for the PVE mode if it is any good but knowing Blizzard I do not have high hopes any longer. Still never been able to play Ramatra. I got to tier 120+ in the Season 1 battle pass but there was basically no reward for doing so and I don't even care about season 2 knowing it will take dozens of hours to unlock the new character and I do not want to pay any more money on a pathetic excuse of a sequel since there are better games I can spend my money on. If the PVE is bad and nothing changes I see this franchise falling apart in the near future.

I think most criticisms make sense , though most of them have been addressed by other KZbinrs at this point, except probably the first one. The main argument was all heroes have some kind of counters and that if you don’t have the full roster of the heroes you wouldn’t be able to counter some of them, which I don’t think is that solid an argument. For existing OW1 players you would have all the base heroes and if not you should unlock the base OW1 heroes pretty quickly if you play consistently. Besides new players have to get used to the game and pacing anyways so in a way it’s not that bad. If you don’t have all the base heroes or new heroes you can probably still test them out in Practice Ground to see what heroes are viable against them and I do believe if you can aim, then just using soldier 76 you can do well in most games. This is an FPS game after all and if you can’t aim then you’re going to be bad at the game anyways. As for new heroes, if you notice none of them are exactly that original or hard counter any of the base OW1 heroes that you have to own them. And if you’re in doubt, train your aim using hitscan heroes and your game sense and you’ll probably do well anyways. Regardless I don’t see anyone actually criticizing the main issues of OW2, which in my opinion there are 2: 1. The fact that they change from 6v6 to 5v5, which for some reason most people think it’s a good thing. I do believe that with less shields and cc, the game became better, but you have to remember that the original design of this game was for 6v6 which means the base OW1 heroes are modeled based on that. In a game which has one less tank, the one tank became incredibly important to the game. If you lose your tank you most likely will lose the fight especially in low ranks. So if your tank trolls or is inexperienced you’ll probably lose the game. At the same time, support becomes more important but for the wrong reasons. With less tankiness in low ranks, the support has to play more of the healer role than not, which is technically not how you should play support. The role is called support not healer so you should be training yourself to use your skills or chip in some damage to win clutch moments but instead they become healer bots. That’s not fun for support players at all nor does it actually help to win games even if you have 15k+ healing. And did I mention that tank and support have the same amount of hero pool but you can have 2 supports and 1 tank in a game? The problem with OW is that they don’t make supports enjoyable to play as opposed to playing tanks or dps. 2. Hero design in terms of abilities and hero balancing are very bad. The latter is self explanatory with blizzard overbuffing and overnerfing characters, but for the former it’s a bit more nuanced. Does anyone notice how similar the play styles of some heroes? Sorjourne, for eg, is just an upgraded version of soldier 76, ramattra’s skill is quite similar to sigma so basically you play them quite similarly. I mean visually it looks different and the ults do different things, but their 2(or 3 skills) are quite similar to original heroes. Some new heroes also dont anything special that older heroes can’t do. Like what’s special about Echo that does differently from other dps, except for the ult? Basically she can fly around abit and shoot some sticky bombs and laser. Isn’t that similar to what pharah has been doing ? I just feel like there’s less and less variability in terms of hero abilities with the new heroes as they seem to share similar playstyles

Yang; Exactly Fam! I agree on all of the points you made. I have been saying since day 1, that all of the freedom of movement they wanted for players could have been done with 6v6 still in the game. There was no reason for them to remove that aspect of the game and if they did, they could have AT-LEAST, Rework ALL the heroes (Not just a few) to fit within the 5v5 system. I Main Angie Zig , and it can be really frustrating to try do everything for my team either because the other Team is just better, or my teammates are not good or just starting off. I only played OW1 on my Cousin's account during season 1, but I do have EXP playing OW and it can be very rewarding but also extremely toxic depending on who you play with. I have been improving on getting better myself so I can help my team win more games since no one told me that I had to play Support and more specifically, play Angie; But with the VAST Majority of players of OW being DPS players and very few support players that don't dps with Moira, it only made sense for me from a team composition, to play Angie just to fit within the 5v5 movement even when on her own, she brings little to the table when my teams are genuinely not good since even the best Angies are only as strong as the teams that are around them.

Very true, except for the fact that mmr doesn't go down in between seasons. It is very likely that you'd be matched against similar people as you went against at the end of the last season at the beggining of the next because mmr is all that is taken into account when finding a game. That snowballs into a huge problem for inactive players and very high skill players . It's true that it wouldn't be much of an issue for basically anyone who is actively playing or is ranked bronze-gold but it is an issue at the end of the day so I covered it.

Besides the ranking issue, which yes, it's very clearly bad, and they should probably fix it, this is just a monetization issue. I'd say I, as someone who's never played ow1, prefer ow2, because I'm actually playing it and I didn't have to pay for that. Of course, cosmetics, yes, but... You don't need those to actually play the game. I've been enjoying it a lot just playing, and it's free. The game itself is free. The only reason I had never played ow1 was because it costed money. You can complain about how ow1 costed less overall if you count the fact you were paying for the game and the free cosmetics you got by playing, but... I'm not paying at all and I got the game already. as someone who doesn't care for cosmetics, I'm good with having the choice to pay, even if a lot more, for cosmetics, cuz I'm not paying anyway. There's two things I'd say that are bad about this, if you're someone who does care for cosmetics, it's definitely a trash system, but... the *gameplay* doesn't change. Now, the bad thing is, obviously, if you got more stuff while playing less, ow1 felt more rewarding to play, but... cmon, most games are going for the f2p microtransaction strategy, at this point, we gotta learn to play for playin, not for the rewards of skins and all that.

I won't take any of that away from you or try to say you're wrong for feeling that way. It's just for me, as someone who played OW1 for over 300 hours the stuff surrounding the gameplay matters a lot more to me. I'm so used to the gameplay that it's not too exciting for me anymore and when the ancillary parts of the game are kneecapped or at the very least put behind a paywall it ruins the experience for me personally. There was no role queue for any mode, two tanks worked in the game way better than someone who only played OW2 would understand and chat was always bumpin' with people talking crap or just joking it was great. I feel like the current score board causes much more Toxic Behaviour in Game. If you dont heal well, you can see it, but they dont take into consideration what happens to you as Support, cause as support you get killed the most compared to a tank or dps. Since their is no second tank anymore, DPS can dive up on you with ease without making any effort. I think the game is an trash game, i dont like playing it anymore, despite the fact i play overwatch 1 for more then 1000 hours. Now, i dont feel like playing anymore. I dont get rewarded for playing, i dont get a sense of progressive feeling when playing comp, i dont earn skins anymore without putting in my money for the battlepass. Its like a Complete Downgrade in Every Way compared to Overwatch 1. I preciate you, I'm go game take care well game it up some time." Didn't really know it meant he was like all Uber Spartan like for real type stuff. I was like damn, that sucked for him, I could tell, he was telling me how he was just grinding from like the day prior till the day we met which was like 32hours straight playing and I wanna hope he drinks water and crap, I didn't get to ask but that's unhealthy as Fk! But he was tripping because he just kept getting qued with newbies the whole time apparently he didn't lose a single game and I was on a 14win streak my self so I was just like watching your video and it just was like seriously Fkd up man! He just wanted to be qued with his buddies and not dingus noobtards so he was just like Grinding straight the hell up 32hours winning Non stop carrying probably over half if not more no doubt. Honestly the free to play model is still better as at the end of the day it is still cosmetics which I will 100% trade it for a free copy of the game as more accessibility for my friends

I think people weren't upset about earning loot boxes. It was more that scummy game companies put loot boxes as a purchase item to be able to get what you wanted. And on purpose made good drops at ridiculously small percentages.

@Zackyzoo I wish they would go back to the original stuff. I loved the medals, being on fire, and the way the old reward system was. I hate battlepasses. Oh and the way the play of the game selection seems weird and/or are cut short.

While I don't agree with you on many points, I still respect your opinion. However, what you said about the ranking system is incorrect. While your rank doesn't truly show your mmr it is still connected to it. So, if you were in plat and you drop down to gold due to the new season, you will still climb back up to plat even if you break even on all of your placements (7W / 7L). This is because your rank and mmr naturally want to align themselves. Plus, if you are a top 500 player and you drop all the way down to silver (which shouldn't be happening anyway because if you are good enough to be top 500 you are going to be playing the game a lot) you will climb extremely quickly even if you are playing against people of the same skill because you will be going up way more when you win and going down way less when you lose. But I like what you said about the lootboxes, the battlepass system sucks and lootboxes were infinitely better lol.
