Without Palpatine's corrupting influence, I wonder what Anakin could have become if he were Mace Windu's padawan and learned Vaapad.

I have always wondered why ppl say Qui-Gon was the only perfect master for Anakin when Mace was another to me. Plus had Mace been able to trust him I think the rest of the Old Jedi Council gets on board too which alleviates the mistrust Anakin sensed from them and why he grew to resent them

I love the description of this fight in the novel. Matthew Stover did a fantastic job of invoking the feeling of the Force-Deadlock Windu and Sidious were in during the duel, as well as the feedback loop of Force Lightning into Vaapad.

It would have been just as good for Mace to have gone alone. He and Yoda would probably be the only Masters capable of resisting a Force Scream of the caliber that Palpatine used to disable his companions in the opening move.

@@alsimmonshellspawn6021 you know the clone wars was different in the EU as well right? And that’s just one small example of the many inconsistencies in the EU I’ve personally read through in the span of 30 years. The problem with EU fans is that they pick and choose what to accept is their canon and what’s not. What’s Canon is the 6 films+The Clone Wars (Season 1-6). That’s final.

I'm pretty sure Palpatine was faking it in order to bring Anakin to his side in definitive and this became clear in the book when he says that Windu was a fool for thinking the fear he was feeling was his (it was actually Anakin's fear of losing his only chance to save Padme).

I think Sidious was faking being weak and losing to bring Anakin to his side. Mace was easily defeated blown out a window by unlimited power. Everyone acts like Mace is a badass but he does nothing in the prequels to support this. He never fights Anakin in a duel or bests him, Obi-Wan does. Mace sits like a politician in a council of masters. Everything about his supposed greatness comes from George saying he is great, or some EU book like Shatterpoint.

What makes me mad about Star Wars is why didn’t obi wan and yoda try and get Sidious after mustafar??? Anakins power was gone obi wan woulda cooked him easy and they coulda double teamed the emperor ?? All they needed was Wookies and Ewoks to take on the stormtroopers
@igornebov7 ай бұрын
That thoughts mean nothing about Windu's supremacy - from the Book of Sith we know Sidious controlled this fight inch by inch, step by step and just holding back to invite the Chosen One into a wrong choices trap. Knowing how Bane's sith were trained (especially through Darth Plagueis novel), how other no less powerful Jedi masters wiped out... That's the Palpy's game of giveaway from the very beginning and to the end.
@westington17 ай бұрын
George Lucas stated that Mace won that fight fair and square, and that if it wasn’t for anakin’s intervention he would have been killed. I love some of those Legends / EU books, but they’re not canon - just different perspectives by many different writers. There’s so many books out there you can pick and choose anything and make your own head-canon - which as fans of Star Wars we all have the right to do. When it comes to Lucas’s works though, I think your missing something if you go against the creators own explanations that make up official canon. IMO the films make have more meaning when you accept the intended canon that Lucas has stated
@igornebov7 ай бұрын
@@westington1 then that's another Lucas' stupid step back. Dont get me wrong - Mace is the top fighter of post-Ruusan Jedi order, but if Mace were very-very equal or even superior, and not just a bit weaker, then the exact timing of Palp's "loosing" and Anakin's appearance makes no sense. As well as it doesn't make sense because we know how the Sith forward developed and advanced themself compared to the old Jedi order.
@westington17 ай бұрын
@@igornebov I don’t understand what you mean by ‘another Lucas stupid step back’ This was just an example (and there are other for sure), where Lucas told the fans what he intended to show in his film. Also you’re saying it doesn’t make sense, but many people’s (including Lucas’s interpretation of the film he actually wrote and filmed) was that Sidious was beaten, knew he was beaten and only attacked again when he saw Anakin had arrived and could pull out a final play in order to survive. Why does this not make as much sense as your own argument there? Because you’ve read books written by people other than Lucas that tell a different story? Should that come ahead of what the writer and director of the films intended to show - ahead of the story they wanted to put across?. I’ve seen Star Wars fans talk about core concepts like the meaning of balance and the nature of the dark side of the force like they either never watched the films, or just ignored parts because it doesn’t fit with how they want to view Star Wars. I see the above one talked about incorrectly all the time. Balance isn’t between the dark side and the ‘light-side’ - which isn’t actually a term used in the Lucas films once - and for good reason. Balance in the force is the absence of the dark, not balance between dark and light. The force IS the light, and is there to balance the universe and the darkness that exists already in sentient beings: greed, evil, selfishness, violence and destruction. The force (the ‘light side’ is the balance to this). The dark side isn’t an aspect of the force, and the force isn’t split into two sides - one being light and the other dark. The dark side is the way a force user uses the force - trying to control it to gain power using the amp negative emotions give. The force views the dark side as a cancer and actively wants to remove it. Most of this is explained in the films, and the rest has been explained by Lucas extensively, yet it seems most fans have this idea that balance is using both the dark and the ‘light side’ of the force, or an equal number of dark and light side users. I get that many books (and seemingly Disney) have written about the force from a different perspective, but personally I think that the creator gets to decide the messaging and meaning of his own films without fans saying he’s wrong of back-pedalling. You miss the whole point and message of the first 6 films but not understanding this. Oh and the Jedi are the good guys, and the Sith are space fascists and very much evil. Audiences seem to not want good vs evil stories nowadays apparently, but I’m afraid that’s exactly what Star Wars is.

@@westington1 Star Wars is NOT a solitary George product only, he handle this with a collective of talented specialists of duels, politics, plot group etc. If the franchise got disadvantages like downgrades of ROTS (important deleted scenes, full and lore accurate Windu vs. Palpatine duel like Anakin vs. Dooku but George thrown it away and more things) by his decision and making more mistakes then there could be, that's his fault. Of course, an author is a "God" of his story, but imperfect, and if an author missed some better opportunity because of his "wants" and "he seen it", rejecting specialists who knows better then him in particular weak spots of the story... We have to criticise it, as recipients of this art.
@westington17 ай бұрын
@@igornebovCriticising art is of course fine, I didn’t say don’t do that. What I called you up on is that you decided your version of events, where Sidious actually pretended to lose to Windu, held more weight than than Lucas confirmation that Windu beat Sidious fair and square. The fact that other people work on a film and contribute to helping with the story and helping the writer and creator tell his story, is just how films work. It doesn’t mean fans get to decide what happened key story points of a film in direct contrast to what the creator states. I don’t get your argument here - you stated one thing happened ROTS, and I pointed out that the director confirmed that it happened another way. What are you trying to argue here? It’s certainly okay to critique films, but that’s very different than incorrectly stating that events happened in the film that didn’t. Critique is saying you think it would have been better if events unfolded this way, or that something was poorly written, shot, directed etc. It’s not stating that something happened in a film that didn’t, unless something is left intentionally ambiguous, which wasn’t the case in the fight between Windu and Sidious. A critique would be saying that, though Sidious lost the fight against Mace, you think it would have been better if he hadn’t of. Big difference geez. Can’t see what point you’re arguing here, it’s pretty cut and dry 🤷♂️
