Palpatine didn’t obsess about finding yoda for the same reason the jedi order didn't obsess about finding the sith survivors after the great hyperspace war. Its pointless. There will always be a jedi and a sith somewhere. And even if you get rid of every single jedi or sith in the universe, there will be always a jedi who will turn to the dark side or a sith who will turn to the light and start it all over again. Both jedi or sith could only hope to be dominant, not to extinguish the other altogether.

Ill offer another reason. Palpatine didn't want another confrontation with Yoda. Little to gain, a lot to lose. Yoda was the only Jedi alive who stood a real challenge to Palpatine and he feared his power. So as long as the Jedi Grandmaster remained in Exile and didn't directly oppose the new order it simply wasn't worth the risk to try and eliminate him. Vader and the Inquistors were not match for Yoda and therefore only person capable of beating Yoda would have been Palpatine himself. I think Palpatine didn't relish the idea of another duel as their first encounter resulted in a draw.

@@EmperorFist323 Did you watch the prequels? Vader that got sliced into pieces by Obi-Wan, and then fried in a volcano. This cut off a significant amount of his connection to the force. The Vader suit did not increase his abilities in the Force it diminished them. Anakin Skywalker may have been more powerful in the force, but he lacked the lightsaber skill and experience of the 900 Year old Jedi Grandmaster. Moreover Yoda oversaw Anakin's training he would have known exactly what is abilities and weaknesses were, such as arrogance and overconfidence in his abilities. Moreover Darth Vader he was not as powerful anymore either due to his injuries. Yoda would have bested him easily.

Always liked to imagine Palpatine almost saw it as legitimizing his rule, knowing that even the greatest survivors of the Jedi Order; Yoda and Kenobi, even with their impressive power and charisma, wouldn't rise to threaten his dominion, because they KNEW they couldn't win. Palpatine surely had issues over the decades of his rule, but knowing these few survived, and knowing they were too afraid to challenge him, strengthened his rule through fear doctrine, and told him he was right, because if they could win; if the Force favored them, surely they'd try, but since they wouldn't, they knew it was because they COULDN'T.

If the Empire had gone full force looking for yoda, it wouldve told their enemies that he was an enormous threat and a potential ally. While they probably wouldn't have been able to find him it would at least get some people interested enough to look into who he was leading to more people digging into the Jedi and force which may cause potential force sensitive beings to take an interest in the Jedi. In the end it could've caused more trouble down the line.

Preface: Casual Star Wars fan with little knowledge beyond Disney canon. It always bugged me how Yoda & Obi-Wan just gave up and left to hide and do nothing. Why not help out the rebellion? At worst, maybe lay low for awhile, but then gather their resources and try again. Even if it were incontrovertible that they could not defeat Sidious (which I doubt), they could still seriously disrupt and subvert his empire. Granted, there were relatively few Jedi left after Order 66, but look at how much Vader & Luke made on the galaxy for each side alone. Surely, two of the most powerful and trained Jedi with a few others could have vastly helped the rebellion.
@TY-km8hj5 жыл бұрын
True but remember the rebellion needs to defeat the Sith, something that they really wouldn't be able to do. Obi wans goal was to watch over Luke and eventually train him to defeat them both since he literally was their only hope (Leia too but she was with the organas) had they left to help the rebellion they would have done some good no doubt however what would it have truly accomplished? (Plus the rebellion didn't properly form until around 5 or less yrs before a new hope so the impact they would have had would be little due to there not being much time and would then make them abandon their duties) Eventually the sith would most likely confront them and kill them as they were too powerful at that point. Plus they knew of other jedi who were helping the rebellion such as ahsoka tano ezra bridger and kanan jarrus. Subverting the empire is a pointless endeavor, hence why they chose the long game and attempt to destroy the empire entirely through destroying the Sith
@EmperorFist3235 жыл бұрын
Luke was there best bet. In just a few training sessions he was able to rest the greatest technological terror the galaxy ever seen. Over the years he would take out bases and naval fleets aswell. Obi-wan's story to Luke is that vader helped hunt down and destroy the Jedi. I doubt he would have just sat back and decided to let Yoda live. The canon story suggests Vader was actively seeking the remaining Jedi, and destroying them for years after Revenge of the Sith. Yoda was just never found.

I really don't like that as time has passed more and more stuff is coming out showing the Jedi in a negative light or that they deserved to be genocided when it was the Sith that had been hiding in the shadows for 1000 years planning to kill them all. The Jedi knew something was very wrong and that is why they became very cautious and even suspected something was wrong with the Chancellor once the clone wars started to end. If Anakin had not fallen to the Dark Side then Palpatine would have been killed by Mace Windu.

Yes, a massive mistake. Yoda, the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order is still alive, as is Jedi Master and council member Obi Wan Kenobi. This makes Darth Sidious as idiotic as a James Bond villain who shows Bond his master plan. Clearly the Jedi Order was not destroyed, it would continue and rebuild, and eventually seek to overthrow the Sith Empire.

This is making it sound like the sith's are just very angry parents and just wanted the Jedi to learn a lesson. If they killed them off immediately yoda and obi would've taught luke and luke wouldn't be able to teach future jedi basically enabling the sith downfall from power.

That's possible, but the Force would have rebalanced itself by still raising up two more light side users that would have had to learn everything the hard way. Possibly even using the old Jed'I texts to return to using the balanced Force instead of only the light or dark sides.

He didn't kill Yoda because none of his and Palpatine's history had been fleshed out yet. The Sith hadn't even been invented, and the word Sith never appears in the original trilogy. I never liked the idea that the jedi were the military and even some sort of governmental body of the old republic that resided on corouscant. I always imagined the jedi as a very heterogeneous group, consisting of only a few individuals like yoda, that were spread out across galaxy, mystical, shadowy figures, appearing here and there in the galaxy, in cases of need or in desperate times, helping out with conflicts in times of war etc. That would also contribute to them becoming more of an urban legend or a myth over time. It's the stupidest idea and a prime example of Lucas's unimaginative and lackluster writing that he would put something silly like a jedi academy for children or jedi school into these movies...
@josephcharles45495 жыл бұрын
@@christophzeit6282 I mean Obi Wan said in a New Hope they were Guardians of the Republic and 10,000 strong. What you described is basically what they were to the general public, the galaxy numbers trillions so even if the Jedi were more vocal due to their ties with the government many people would still never see a Jedi in their life, or at the very least in action. The Clone Wars was one conflict that let the citizens see more often Jedi fighting in the battlefield, these sights contributed to the Jedi legend and myth. Why wouldn't a group this powerful be working close with the dominant galactic power? And even then they remained mainly secretive/mysterious to the public.

And then Yoda went on to help train Luke, who would turn Vader back to the light, and directly cause Palpatine's downfall. Palpatine's hubris and arrogance was a catalyst for his downfall in Return of The Jedi, just as with the Jedi at the end of the Revenge of The Sith. It's like George Lucas himself said: "It's like poetry, it rhymes".
@superomegaprimemk24 жыл бұрын
If Yoda confronted Sidious once more, we can apply a Thanos quote to it "You couldn't live with your failure, where did it bring you? Back to me!" I think in someways, Yoda having been forced to go into exile, likely made the former Grand master more humble and a much wiser, plus he had many years to think upon the failure of the jedi order and find balance within himself more and evenly pass on what he knew to his last student, the son of the man who betrayed the order and helped destory it and murder younglings!
@ArteriusSaren5 жыл бұрын
Nah, it doesn't matter at all, he should seek scenarists and did with them same thing he did with a chief engineer of the death star. No way, competent ruler would behave like Palpatine. Just imagine that kind of sheer power in the hands of Hitler, Stalin or Churchill it would be a complete obliteration of any opposition. More and more I understand that some of EU material are more worthy compare to original material in terms of simple logic.

Think more of usa keeping osama bin ladin alive. An external and prominent enemy can be very useful ... and not just for propaganda either. (Eg justification for iraq war). If no external threat is evident, an internal "threat" must be sought and framed/blamed for any f ups.

I dont exactly understand this. In the clone wars sidious knew yoda had gone the the dark side temple and seen darth bane. So how does degoba block yodas presence? Sidious was able to join with darth tyranis and try to deal a devistating blow to the jedi in that episode. If anyone can explain this it would be very helpful.

It Make sense why Palpatine never obsessed over Yoda unlike how Vader did with Ben Kenobi. During their Duel Sidious had nothing to lose, but Yoda *had everything to lose.* And by the time Yoda had lost the Duel their was nothing he could do, so he went into Exile. As far as Dueling goes however I feel that Yoda had a chance of winning, because when you look at one scene Palpatine no longer had his lightsaber, and offscreen I’m pretty sure Yoda was able to disarm him, which proves master Yoda was the best Duelist in the Order, but unfortunately Sidious’s Strength with the Dark side was far too powerful for Yoda and overwhelmed him.
