Recreational therapists in State Psych. Hospitals did everything you mentioned and more.Also community recreation centers do a lot. I started in 1976 working as recreational Therapist in state hospital with chronic pt's we did all the activities you mention and more.I even took pts. out to have horse riding therapy in the late 1970's. We brought in dogs for pet therapy. When Reagan decided to start cutting government funding for psychiatric facilities that graetly reduced the number of people that could be served. I do not remember any out cry from Psychiatrists ,Psychologists or their organizations as to the consequences of defunding these public services. We are now in great need of those services and there aren't enough trained people or facilities to treat them instead they are in jails or living on the streets.
