Ramon. This was precious. Also some rare images not seen before, thank you. Peter looking very relaxed with a Strat! Disturbing to know folks think you're mentally ill cos you want to give your excess cash to others, and do things for free. Peter just didn't want to be part of the machine. He was smart, but he paid a heavy price. I like to think he found contentment in end because, God knows, he deserved to. He still enjoyed his collection of guitars, he also liked going fishing, dear man. I understand there's a lot more to this, but those of us who felt touched by his magic fingers from the very start will know there will never be another Peter Green.

The way he describes it all at the time though, it sounds so reasonable and astute to me today. I’m not saying he wasn’t mentally very poorly, but it all made a lot of sense; you had to be a bit of a git to survive in the music business in those days and keep it t going through the 70s and 80s. The Stones, Clapton… a lot of those acts had to reinvent themselves constantly to fit in with ‘pop’ music and keep their places at the top. They weren’t afraid of stepping on people in the process either. Peter wasn’t about that and I admire that massively - it wasn’t just his music that has a sincerity and honesty that was absolutely unrivalled.

Interesting to hear this in Peters words. I had the privilege to meet Peter in 16 and we became friends. One of his best friends came and lived with me in 1971 for a year, Nigel Watson. Nigel brought two of Peters guitars with him to Boston where we lived. One was Peters 1957 Strat and the other was his Dobro. the exact one in this picture on this KZbin video. I owned a 1959 Sunburst, we had PETER'S Dobro and StRATt aAND A 1960 BLACK BEAUTY Les Paul WOW

For anyone interested in Peters life, I can highly recommend getting a copy of Martin Culmin's book 'Peter Green: The Authorised Biography'. It challenges a lot of the myths and delves deeply into Peters reasoning to leave the group. To cut the story short, after releasing Then Play On in September 1969, the band's tour and gig diary was fully booked for a year (!) which put immense pressure on the band. Peter wanted to concentrate more on writing and recording but simply didn't had the time because of the constant touring. He was on the brink of a nervous exhaustion and drugs provided a (temporary) escape. Unfortunately, after leaving Fleetwood Mac things sadly just gradually got more out of hand and the drug use worsened.
@mestchabeats8955
@mestchabeats8955 11 ай бұрын
What does it actually state about the later drug use and descent into madness? He said personally in an interview that he only took acid six times, which if true would mean that he was extremely susceptible to drug induced mental illness. I find that very hard to believe.
@epajanssen
@epajanssen 11 ай бұрын
@@mestchabeats8955 For the best answer I strongly advise to get a copy of his authorised biography. But in short his disillusionment with the (music) industry and his personal struggles just got worse after leaving Fleetwood Mac. He lost track and direction, eventually quit music, took on jobs as a gardener and in undertaking, went to Israel to live in a kibbutz... When all that didn't work out he just became more disillusioned with both him and the outside world and his only way out was using more drugs. It ultimately resulted in the infamous rifle incident after which he was sentenced to enter psychiatric hospitals undergoing electroconvulsive therapy. That one in particular seems to have truly messed him up.
@mestchabeats8955
@mestchabeats8955 11 ай бұрын
@@epajanssen ah, so he was never sectioned until that incident. Drugs just had such a catastrophic effect on that band. Pete and Danny, who apparently both left the Munich incident as altered people Jeremy spencer who couldn’t stand the sound of his own music after a mescaline trip, leading him to want to quit

My cousin developed Schizophenia in 1966 in his early 20's delusional thinking, minimalist behavior, withdrawing from friends and family all very typical symptoms, My cousin was also treated with EST in the late 70's....oddly enough at age 60 in last few years of his life they treated with with mild doses of LSD compounds. If you want to hear some of the best of early FM....Blues Jam in Chicago a double album cut in '69 at the Chess studios where the following Chicago blues musicians played with them - Otis Spann (piano, vocals), Willie Dixon (upright bass), Shakey Horton (harmonica, vocals), J.T. So I believe the evidence now supports psychedelics being _coincidental_ to schizophrenia onset. In other words, musicians were taking psychedelics as young people at the same time a very small number of them began experiencing their first psychotic breaks. The evidence is based on the fact that there is no bump in schizophrenia diagnoses after psychedelics became widely available. But, since schizophrenia usually presents in early adulthood at the same age when people are experimenting with drugs, and psychedelics can cause temporary psychosis, people naturally made an association between their use and long term psychosis. It's terribly sad that some great musicians had their careers curtailed by becoming very mentally ill. But of course it may also have contributed to their particular form of creativity in the first place. At least Peter and Syd Barrett managed to find relief from it. Even if they weren't 'cured,' they both seemed to go on to live fairly contented lives. I believe ECT is still used but not in the irresponsible, unscientific way it was done in the '70s.

I saw them a few times at the Shrine Auditorium in the way they were then and they blew us away ! Jeremy Spence made us really go crazy when he did slide guitar and sang "Shake Your Money Maker . One thing though is that Mick still had those wooden balls on his belt ,if you know what I mean.

Peter Green exhibit a direct connection between his hands, heart,his fingers and a higher power. Peter felt that the group was depending on his song writing too much. Peter told Danny Kerwan that he is responsible for half of the "Then Play On" LP. Danny paid little time writing or the band rehearsing because the group knew that Peter would deliver even if it meant writing ,playing , recording and singing. Unless Peter called a rehearsal the band sat around, this was a major disappointment to Peter. He had outgrown the band. Peter put his pain into his songs and Peter felt he could no longer suffer the pain the it too to put his life to words "something I wish I hadn't been born". Peter was a giver and the band had no problem taking advantage of his shills. Peter would no complain so he left. Great inside info on Peter and the fact that it was not the Munic incident that ended Fleetwood Mac. Bless the Green God.

My personal number one of all times is Albatross. I don't now why but it hits many buttons inside of me. For me that is what a guitarist or musician generally should accomplish before he is leaving earth. Not t0 be the fastest, the brightest or the toughest, that is just good fun. But to change and accomplish something inside of his or her listeners. To make a deep connection. Its the magic in the music that counts to me. Most people who have that rare talent as Peter, have also that sensitivity, that fragility that can carry them or brake them.

“If somebody spikes you, your not going to be making the most spiritual music of your life” is an incorrect statement. Peter was NOT spiked in Munich he was used to dropping acid on stage and voluntarily dropped in Munic. After Munic Peter would record The End of The Game which is one of the most spiritual albums i have ever heard and one of the greatest psychadelic albums ever recorder. Peter has stated in a video interview that he and the band drank LSD infused champaign before they recorded the album. Drugs like acid and marijuana can help you connect spiritually to the creative force behind music. Coltrane, miles, hendrix, garcia, santana….the list goes on…they all dropped and it enhanced their music/spiritual connection.

Peter Green was Jewish and a Christian. If his pattern was like what happened to me--though I am not Jewish--he underwent a conversion experience only he and God are privy to. Such entails a tranlation to heaven, and no longer being in the flesh, but in the soirit, not to mention being washed in the blood of Jesus, and becoming forgiven of the past sins. If he was dosed in Germany and electroshocked for a perceiced mental illness, he would have been forceably cut adrift. And yet as a Christian he would be in possesion if a sound mind. .
