I remember when I used to avoid albums based on their ratings from critics. Or if I personally enjoyed a song or album, I'd take the harsh criticisms of that thing I loved to heart. This honestly sucked the joy out of listening to music, as well as forming my own individual opinion. If someone loves it, good. They hate it, that's fine too. Have fun with music. I feel like public ratings are a problem with everything. Imdb ratings are so bad and it’s all based on popularity honestly. I don’t trust the general rating for anything honestly. I'm a swiftie but I don't think that TTPD is the best album of all albums in 2024, sure it's the biggest streams but TTPD isn't needed and isn't showing growth to Taylor's music. While she has good lyricism in the album, it isn't something we've never seen before from her. Other albums in 2024 like Eternal Sunshine which is needed because that's Ariana's way of getting back on the charts and redeeming herself, Rise and Fall of the Midwest Princess is Chappel Roan's debut album, she is doing something different for this album with bringing the 80s aesthetic but still feeling modern and staying upbeat because you're already sad so you don't need a sad song. BRAT by Charli XCX reviving the hyperpop genre and has shown growth in her career, and lastly Short N' Sweet by Sabrina which had shown her growth as an artist, versatility with pop bangers that were ripped from the 90s.

Look up the review of Griff's album "Vertigo". The first three paragraphs are about Taylor Swift and her "feud" with Olivia Rodrigo... The entire review is seven paragraphs long, so almost half of it is dedicated to a lawsuit that never existed. The problem with their reviews is that they allow Stans to review albums, which is why Griff wasn't the star of the review of her album. The writer is a huge fan of Olivia Rodrigo and has a beef with Taylor Swift because of "Deja Vu" writing credits. It's honestly laughable. In the end, reviews don't really matter all that much. Music is subjective. I love TTPD. I thoroughly enjoyed Sabrina's new album, but I can't stand Brat, HMHAS put me to sleep on three different occasions, and CC didn't do anything for me. These three albums have higher scores than TTPD or Short n' Sweet. People should just enjoy the music instead of trying to give it scores that will only be used in stan wars on Twitter.

I don’t really like comparing older reviews to current ones because they’ve definitely become more forgiving over time. Also the writing staff is completely different so yeah the scores between albums are going to be weird because it’s different people over many years. There was no way for them to foresee Born To Die or Pure Heroine’s massive influence on pop music in the years they were released. The only score that’s really bad is Y2k. Compare anything with a lower score to that and yeah, Pitchfork seems like a clown car operation. Also charts REALLY dont equal quality, and I like TTPD, but that argument sucked.

"The Tortured Poets Department" is a "sleeper" album, it needs more attention, before trying to form a review or rating for it. At least eight full listens. It's an album which gets much better upon repeated listens. I thought it was very good on my first listen. But after ten, I put it among her best albums.

Some critics reviews just show unprofessionalism and stupidity of the writers. I mean born to die is one of the best and most successful albums. And ttpt is one of the best albums of this year. Those ranking just lower the publications credibility because people will continue to stream and buy those albums and singers will be inspired by those, while the critics in that publication will be forgotten if not deemed trash

I think these review places rate albums way to fast as they come out with these ratings only a few days if that after the album dropped. Any records needs time to sizzle so it can be fully appreciated. I would wait about three months or so and give it a few chances and get to know it a bit more before rating in.
