Musicians truly are either terrible people or amazing people. I'm privileged to know lots and lots of good ones :) In my observation, the musician's character becomes more evident from his/her motivations. Money? Oof. Fame? Probably not going to work out. Impressing people? Vain and short-sighted. Self-expression? Can go either way. But when you find a musician who is passionate about music for its own sake, or for the purpose of serving, empowering, connecting with, and showing love to people, and doing it excellently? That's a person made of gold right there.

I always hated the idea that there's only the main archetypes of music because it's so massively reductive when you realise there's musical concepts outside of Western Music (and even within it) that completely negate the idea. It's also used hugely by elitist viewpoints; you could consider Liszt's works of preserving folk music as classical music but it can easily fit under folk music because that's where it's sourced from, jazz is completely rooted in being a folk music of America, but also becoming the popular music of the 20th century, and often containing the pop music of the early 20th century, even going so far as to influence the classical music of the 20th century. The musical archetypes aren't good beyond giving an idea of a handful of disciplines that miss out on any nuance.

@jayall004 ай бұрын
@@GhostGlitch. of course we live in a time where music is most accessible. That doesn’t mean it’s better. Todays music in general is subpar, and that’s after countless hours of searching for a band that can reach even the likes of a boring 70’s rock band. The most hard rock band today is greta van fleet. And that’s because it’s the only band that can (or properly knows how to) let loose and jam out in a hard rock style and improvise. The only active jam band I know of is Goose, carrying where phish and Grateful Dead left off. These two bands are amazing, but if this were the 70’s, this stuff would be found in the back of an alleyway, and it would be mainstream. There’s not enough bands like them that are even honestly trying to make good music. Today people are too afraid to put their volume knob past 4/10 (thats a whole other dilemma). There’s less desire or creative spark for music anymore, its all just production or for money. People are afraid of the sound of tubes and have ditched equipment that actually makes for a decent sound whether live or in studio. I’m not just an angry boomer either, I’m in my 20’s

But a certified fact is that the orchestra teacher at made school is *way* nicer than the band teacher. Mrs. S is the best teacher ever of all time. She gives us candy all the time, and rarely gets really mad. Although there are a few kids that get on her nerves sometimes, but they deserve it. A lot of hating on modern music is hating on the popular stuff, but most of the popular stuff has really degraded and quality and it’s harder and harder to find quality music nowadays. pair the most popular singers from the 80s and 90s to today Michael Jackson Freddie Mercury John Lennon all of these guys are fantastic musicians that can sing their parts without the need of autotune. Compared to modern singers even the best of the best like Mariah Carey all you can hear most of the time is the autotune. We don’t all hate on music just because it’s popular. We hate on it because you can’t hear the singer when a singer sounds like a synthesizer there’s a massive problem. That being said there are rare modern bands that don’t use anything like autotune and they’re amazing: Dance Gavin Dance, Knocked Loose, Khublai khan, Traitors, Bodysnatcher. (If you’re wondering all those bands are metal🤘)

I just looked it up and the guy who sings songs about cities and towns goes DEEP. He had one on my ***extremely*** tiny rural middle of nowhere hometown in Iowa I'm dumbfounded.

The reason people say music used to be better is that John Lennon wasn't performing "Nowhere Man" by himself in front of a smart phone. He had a band he'd had the attention span and social aptitude to assemble, and together they literally changed the world

Tugg. You went to far this time. My favorite music was made by musicians probably.

6:02 Yessss! Admittedly I am a Beatles fan, but I always say this in response to “The Beatles are overrated.” Not only are they not overrated, they are perfectly rated! They get exactly the right amount of credit for not only their music but the innovations they made to the entire music making process.
@goldenageofdinosaurs719211 ай бұрын
Right? How can a band that literally changed the world be considered overrated? It’s laughable..

The hometown white rapper thing is super accurate. someone that i knew in highschool thought he was the shit. He literally put up a song on soundcloud called The Shit. He claimed that he could freestyle rap, and after asking for prompts, he would then spend five minutes coming up with a rap on his notepad. He was not a good person and that has absolutely nothing to do with him believing that he can rap.

my dad grew up with the main singer to imagine dragons and my dad bullied him because (his words, not mine) "he was a punk." It's the funniest thing.

Two musicians I absolutely adore is Ren and The Amazing Devil. Very different genres but still amazing and there's a lot of symbolism behind the songs.

If you really think about it someone is annoying to someone else so technically we're all annoying. And if you think about it again, no one's annoying because we're all just being ourselves.

@@biggtugg Nah, I enjoy his music pretty good too, I’m just not a fan of concerts and going to them. Also, I will say that I am one of those people who sing really well (without taking any classes), but I’ve really opened up about it and now I’m karaoke worthy!
