I am so jealous that you share your gaming hobby. I have been gaming for decades, and have been married for two of those. My wife is not a gamer. She is crafty, though. The best run we had with games was playing Scrabble every evening for several months… Love OPR, as it is easy to play solo, and also play solo campaigns, so I get my gaming fix. Will be starting a four/ five opponent Fantasy Skirmish campaign, as soon as the terrain, and war bands, are painted… :) Huge amount of forest terrain, and ruins, printed in FDM, and being spray painted. Four 150 point Skirmish teams, resin printed, and being hand painted. Promised myself I wouldn’t start the campaign until everything was painted, but I know myself… lol Cheers,
@TableTopDateNight5 ай бұрын
I'm super fortunate my wife came along for the ride, that's for sure. There is so much to this hobby I'm sure you can find something your wife enjoys doing. Right now I actually don't have anybody else to play with, so it's my wife or kids or solo only. A big fantasy skirmish sounds pretty fun, are you using the forest terrain that OPR just released? it all looks pretty cool but i haven't printed any of it myself. Maybe i'll print the new urban terrain. I play sci-fi mostly. Have you tried the age of fantasy quest yet?
@Wolf359inc5 ай бұрын
@@TableTopDateNight I’ve printed out one of every piece of terrain from the OPR forests, except for the new scatter terrain. Might do some of that down the line, but I’ve got more than enough for a board full of terrain ATM! :) I am glad I have a decent spray gun, as it is so much faster than painting with a brush. Been looking at Quest, but it is still too “beta” for me - I don’t think you can get heroes with a quality of greater than 5+ at present, with many heroes sitting at 6+. For me, this makes combat a chore, and somewhat of a slog, rather than a fun experience for me. Cheers,
@TableTopDateNight5 ай бұрын
I watched a couple rounds of quest, and i think you're right. It looks like there are some fun things there but i feel like i'm missing something. Maybe the game is still missing something? I'm sure it'll be fun at some point. Most of the few videos I watched, it looks like almost everybody is quality 5 or 6 like you said, but i think the rules have the heroes leveling up different skills with xp, so they could potentially get to quality 2 or 3 after a long campaign. I'm not certain though. I can't wait for the grimdark future version

@TableTopDateNight5 ай бұрын
thats a great idea. I made a standard grimdark future campaign (and ideas for a related firefight campaign) but it involves a lot of jackals and those are pretty time consuming to paint, at least for us. Campaigns seem like a good way to bring some story into the games, my wife likes that. I don't know about you guys but my wife always wants them to have a compelling reason to fight, because "why can't they just get along? They have space ships, they should be advanced enough to not fight." Maybe she's right, but she doesn't accept my response "because if they all got along, we wouldn't have a game to play" 🤣
@Nuclear_Spider5 ай бұрын
@@TableTopDateNight yeah, the jackals are tricky with all the details and random clothes to paint. My wife is definitely the more competitive type, doesn’t need much reason to go to war, haha. I like the campaign as I feel it adds a bit more impact to the game. “Is it worth risking my unit for an objective at this point.” Plus, there is always a chance of some funny “story arcs” happening

This is so heartwarming and wholesome! My wife loves TTRPGs (D&D, Cthulhu, GURPS, you name it) but never showed much interest in miniature wargaming, even though she's a very hands-on woman, and loves arts and crafts, but she tried painting a mini once and it just didn't click. In the great Hannibal Chau's own words: - "I tried it once. ONCE!" That being said, OPR rulesets were a blessing from the skies for me, because thanks to its versatility and simplicity, I was able to easily set up a scenario based on my wife's favorite Sci-Fi franchise: Stargate SG-1, using Grimdark Future Firefight. At first she was a bit, dare I say, aloof, but as the game progressed, she was mote and more invested in it, to the point that now she wants me to make another scenario for us to play, and she even got the idea of making games based on SWAT (we both live the 2017 reboot) so I'm glad to say, I got her hooked to GFF, and even though she'll never grab a brush again in her life, I'm more than happy to do all the heavy lifting (I'm the only GM in our TTRPG group as well, so I'm used to it) so long as we get to share a great time pushing minis and rolling dice together 💞 Kudos to you guys, stay safe and keep enjoying this great game! 🤗

This is not to tell you not to do your own thing, but there are a bunch of misleading comments in this. I have a whole bunch of minis games with their own rules and there is not one that does not have a beginners set. For example, my son and I bought Bolt Action figures and rules. The figures were built and within a day of that we played our first game which was a straight out infantry skirmish. All of the games I bought included the need for rules, but ironically not minis. Secondly, maybe it's different here in Australia, but my one look into One Page had the rules for futuristic space combat at $30 Australian. I don't need that when I have X-Wing and GW 40K, which again have rule sets that go from simple to full on. As for 3D printers, again things must be different there. Printers here cost money. As does the curing station. The wash could be jury rigged if you want it. Then there is the cost of electricity, storage space and time. As for the resin, it is so cheap? are you counting the cost of the figures alone or are you including the fact that 50% of the resin "used" is discarded as waste because its usage was the support for the mini build? In addition, is every last drop of resin used or can you hold or mix resin that was poured into the tray with fresh resin a day later. Is there even a method for ensuring that only the resin you need is poured into the tray? So it has always been a bug bear of mine that people praise a system by denigrating alternate systems. Why can't it be good on its own merits.
