This video is what I've been saying about ORAS for years. They are great remakes and make for the definitive Hoenn experience. I feel like people crap on it because there is no Battle Frontier which, while I agree its removal was stupid, doesn't make this a terrible game. I just don't understand why the other Emerald locations like the Mirage Tower, Desert Underpass, Faraway Island, Navel Rock, and Trainer Hill don't make a return. The excuse that these are Ruby and Sapphire remakes and not Emerald remakes hold no real ground. I also wish the gym leaders had their Emerald teams as well, boosting its difficulty.

In defense of Zinnia, she may look like a jerk, but from her perspective, everyone else is willing to commit mass murder on a parallel world. You’d likely be a jerk too if you though billions of people might be killed without even having a chance fo fight for themselves. At least in the ORAS world, everyone knows about the threat and can take action.
@chase869033 жыл бұрын
Huh, never thought about it like that before
@tomnorton42773 жыл бұрын
Zinnia strikes me as a rather machiavellian character. She meant well but she was in hiding throughout the entirety of the main story and only showed her hand in the Delta Episode. I feel like she was doing a lot behind the scenes, manipulating events and people to her advantage and she hides it behind a cheerful and friendly persona. If she were better written, she could have been fascinating. Kind of a "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" character. As it stands, Courtney's easily my favourite character in ORAS. I'm autistic and clearly Courtney is too. I don't know if that was intentional but that's how the character ended up. In fact, it's obvious that she's on a more extreme part of the autism spectrum than I am. I also appreciate that they didn't rely on tokenism with Courtney and were willing to make an autistic character a villain who went so bonkers that she tried to bring a meteor crashing down on the world. That's a shitty thing to do and they didn't use Courtney's autism as an excuse. When Tabitha exploded at her and demanded that she apologise to Maxie, he was completely justified. She knew what she was doing but was simply past the point of caring because she couldn't deal with the emotions that manifested from the realisation that she'd dedicated her life to a fundamentally flawed cause. Autistic people tend to be kind of infantilized and treated with kids gloves but we can be arseholes too and I like that ORAS didn't shy away from that. I think a character who could have been interesting if the games had bothered to give her any story was Lisia. Unfortunately, she was just kind of there and didn't contribute anything. If you're not interested in Pokemon contests, you have no reason to interact with her at all, aside from when she's first introduced in Slateport which was necessary to continue the game.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate Wally having his Ralts evolve into Gallade? Not only is it the introduction that show that ORAS does not restraint itself to being a gen 3 remake and not pretend that gen 4-6 don't exist until postgame, but is a great symbolism for Wally's character. Wally, a frail boy who has everything given due to pitying his frail nature. Ralts, a frail boy like pokemon who's only knows growl so requires to support of other pokemon to survive. Both of them going on an adventure to become stronger to stand on their own. Wally become someone as worthy to become your rival, as the Ralts becomes a superhero instead of the princess-like (something that can be proceed as a damsel in distress) pokemon.
@tomnorton4277 Жыл бұрын
In a way, I kind of miss Wally's Gardevoir. Gallade is more fitting but maybe they should have made his evolution version exclusive so that we could see him with both. Wally using Mega Gallade in Omega Ruby and Mega Gardevoir in Alpha Sapphire would be another way of differentiating the games.
@c0mpu73rguy Жыл бұрын
Gallade didn't exist in gen 3, this change makes no sense.
@Votris11 Жыл бұрын
@c0mpu73rguy So? This is a remake that acknowledges the existence of Gen that comes after it. In universe, Gallade doesn't suddenly not exist in Honen because of the Meta reason because Gallade wasn't created during the creation of Gen 3. It makes more sense than Golbat can't evolve from friendship because Crobat didn't exist when Gen 1 was made. It is one thing I like more than the other remakes.
@teo2805 Жыл бұрын
They should have done this but only because Audrey Hepburn has Gardevoir and Mega Gardevoir as her ace, so they couldn't repeat. Gardevoir is perfectly fine as rendering him a sensitive boy but with his own resolve. In Japanese, Gardevoir is called "She Knight" so despite the feminine body shape, the Pokémon is still a good way to describe Wally. Keep in mind GameFreak never gender-locked Gardevoir even if the evolved versions of Ralts are very feminine.
@zjzr08 Жыл бұрын
@c0mpu73rguy ORAS was supposedly in a dimension where the events of XY (where Gen 1-6 Pokemon are already known) happened at the same time so it makes sense why these evos are part of the regional dex now (and why references like Rotom can exist) - it isn't like FRLG and HGSS which felt more like retcons to the original releases IMO.

I think oras is a trash remake just because it doesn’t even acknowledge emerald and removes a lot of the things that made emerald special, I can say the same thing about bdsp, bdsp essentially removes everything that made platinum better like the battle frontier. Garbage remakes. A great improvement on ruby and sapphire but still a huge downgrade to emerald. Even then ruby and sapphire had a better difficulty then oras easy difficulty curve

@GodSlayer3303 жыл бұрын
@@WheelStart even without the exp share the game is still rediculously easy, at times the game felt very tedious due to huge sudden random explosive spikes in difficulty since the game was primarily designed around the usage of the exp share making it hard in some areas and a lot easier in others and without the use the exp share the game can get a bit tedious because the game was not designed around keeping the exp share off. Same can be said about any of the 3Ds titles, the game in the 3ds titles were specifically designed around the usage of the exp share making it bit tedious if you choose not to use it, especially since each npc trainer catches up higher levels the further you progress and your Pokémon will be vastly underleveled if you do not use the exp share prompting me to actually have to turn it on and off at times to be at the appropriate level without overleveling my Pokémon or severely underleveling them. Pokémon games should be designed around not having the exp share, the exp share should be an option for those who want an easier experience but the entire structure of a Pokémon game should be based around not using it and if they are going to force us to use the exp share then they have to balance it out and nerf the exp share which they haven’t done in oras neither do we have an indication to believe that it’s being done in bdsp. The reason i can play the older Ds and game boy titles perfectly fine is because the older games were never designed around the usage of a broken exp share system making it easier to grind the appropriate level and fight the npc while keep it challenging enough. Modern games are designed around the exp share, if you choose not to use the exp share then the game punishes you for not using it but if you choose to use it then it also punishes you by making the game a breeze to play through.

@@WheelStart that’s not the main reason they are easier, sure fairy typing does make the game a “bit” easier. ORAS brought all my friends back to Pokémon in our teenage years because it caught the feeling of past times. I think it levels the games perfectly to modern standards and graphics. The improvements it made to the originals are welcomed. To me it is disappointing that gamefreak ignores third games when remaking a generation. The battle frontier was *THE* reason to play Pokémon post game but battle maison was just a cheap x y rip off. One thing I haven’t noticed or I didn’t realise you’ve talked about is safari zone. Bdsp will be the first modern game since HG/SS to include Safari zone. to me it was not the biggest deal of it being missing from ORAS but it would’ve been a welcomed inclusion. In regard of Bdsp being released in a month I am not very hyped for the games. I liked the games as a kid because me and my friends could play the games with a wireless connection on the go everywhere. And everyone had these games even kids who wrent into Pokémon before had the game. I was also playing Pokémon battle revolution which was the only way back then to battle with 3d graphics. We imagined Pokémon to be like that as a standard in 10 years. Now we have 3d Pokémon for several years and it isn’t something new anymore. Also the fact that these games will only be 1 on 1 remasters worries me a bit. Game freak never did one on one remasters, every remake had some improvements and unique features over its original counterparts (I know about underground but is it that of an improvement?). I hope that they will do some special post game thing like Sevii islands. (maybe you can do a video about these some time :D) All in all thank you for your great and detailed content and all your efforts you put in these videos.

Omega Ruby remains the only pokemon game to this day, in which I completed the national dex (except for Hoopa which came out after I was finished). The details made the game crazy good. For example if you had surf on a sharpedo, you'd actually ride a sharpedo and be faster than normal. DexNav was also an insane feature. Not only for breeding, but also for collecting, because it actually showed you, when you had every pokemon on a certain route. The criticism of too much water is something, I don't get. Thematically it makes sense to have a region, where sea and land are relatively balanced. And I think you can't criticise a remake for mapdesign choices of the game they remake.

legendaries in oras should have been obtainable via mystery gift in a similar way gen 3 and 4 games did it. Give us an item that takes us to a location where the legendary is. This could have been done all through internet and updates. The 3ds already had everything built in just for that. edit: they didn't even have to give us all legendaries either. Just the ones from the events from back in the day. Except distribution is via online and the maps are via an update

I was six when the original Red/Blue came out (damn I’m old), I played both (didn’t like Yellow), and played all the Gen II games as well. Even though I have a nostalgia brick for those games, Gen III was hands-down my favorite. Emerald version and Platinum are my favorites despite having been a part of the first wave of Pokémon in the West. I’m glad I watched this video, am now planning on getting the ORAS set since they are wildly inexpensive. Getting a 3DS that isn’t though, is another story haha Also, I’m pretty lazy now as a gamer, so an Action Replay is getting added to the cart

Tbh Pokemon Oras were the best remakes Pokemon ever made! It's not just because I'm a gen 3 fan also because of the new elements added to the game. Why I think Oras is definition of best remakes you might ask? LET...ME.....TELL.......YOU! 1st of all instead of storyline being completely same as previous version Pokemon Oras takes place in alternate universe which gave a perfect excuse to make a reimagined version of hoenn. Yes you heard me right Pokemon Oras isn't just a remake it's a reimagined version of ruby and Sapphire because of new stuff like delta episode, free mythicals, ton of legendary encounters and so on; baseline of story and post game is way different than original and more fun. 2nd might I say dex nav was the best idea Pokemon came up with, it opened so much possibilities to play the game. You want egg moves? No need to breed use dex nav and encounters those Pokemons with egg moves. You want hidden abilities? Damn right use dex nav you have a chance to encounter Pokemons with hidden abilities. Aww! UWU shiny hunting is too tiering for you? Don't worry dear customers we got your backs 😁 we introduce shiny chain, thanks to dex nav if you encounter one Pokemon consecutively and continue the chain! You'll increase the chance to shiny hunting this way. (I became a shiny hunting maniac! Getting shinies earlier as 80-100 encounters) 3rd soaring feature added into base game mode (it did exist in gen 3 when they first came but eon flute was a event exclusive item so alot of people don't know about it's existence) . Now let me tell you all that soaring in the sky is way better than the good old fly hm. Not just it saves your slot of being used by fly hm but also you get to enjoy the feel that you can freely roam around the entire region. Might I say that is the best thing to do. 4th post game stuff, tho I am disappointed 😞 that they didn't include the battle frontier but battle resort ⛵ was kinda good enough at least better than nothing. Other than that dex nav now features expanded Pokemon encounters after you get national dex tbh the choices are really solid! 5th my god giving starter of every region is the best thing EVER! Instead of getting starters from previous gens not to mention the tedious transfer process; you just get to choose the starters you want. Well! Ik it's just one but who says you can use friends to trade so you can basically get whole set. 6th let me tell you I play Pokemon competitively! AND super training 😎 chefs kiss 😘. ITS....THE......BEST....THING..EVERRRRRR! It made ev training so easy that it's laughable. I wish every game implemented this feature this should be a core feature man! Poke aime also grate because Pokemon is basically a pet owning game! And you can play with them that was just too Great.

I know i'm late, but Weavile and Gliscor in HGSS were *locked* to post-game, making them post-game evolutions and i guessing that Togekiss, Mismagius, Honchkrow were late-game if not post-game too, *if i'm not mistaken* (tho know how late National Park is considering i never played those games, and even then it's a chance and you have to be 1st) It is true they soft-locked Magnezone, Leafeon, Glaceon and Probopass for no reason tho, like couldn't have they just make the evolution places for them?

These was my first real Pokemon experience. I have a lot of fondness for this game and still hold it very close to me but man I've really come to terms with it's problems 7.8/10 is a valid critique brought down by awful wording. The fact the land routes are so interesting meanwhile all the water feels repetitive and boring is pretty unfortunate especially considering they take up half the region. I cannot tell you how many times I've heard the stupid "this is a remake of RS not E" excuse for the lack of Emerald content. Yes, stuff from RS should stay the same like Steven being Champion. But why in the world are we stuck with Wattson's and the Psychic twins's terrible RS teams and no Battle Frontier. We're just keeping out good features for "authenticity" which is stupid. Don't even get me started on the Delta Episode. I hate Zinnia, the multiple universe stuff was dumb and poorly implented especially with later installments and it only got good in it's last 10 minutes. StillI love these games an the Hoenn region. I hold a great respect for them even today. Pretty good remakes.

This is actually my favorite Pokemon game. Dare I even call it...one of my favorite games of all time. This is something that I have thought about for years now and...well...it just is. It has almost everything that I enjoy out of the series, including the nostalgia of the Hoenn Region and its amazing soundtrack, one of the best selections of Pokemon in the franchise, abundance of secrets and Legendarys to catch, a much improved Secret Base creator with online interactivity, Soaring, Mega Evolutions, and a more fleshed out story and epic battles, including one of the best Champions of them all, and the incredible final moments of the Delta Episode. ORAS has it all (except the Battle Frontier, but it doesn't really bother me all that much, despite what big a deal the ever-toxic fan base would have you believe). These days, Omega Ruby is the game in the series that I enjoy the most. I wouldn't trade this gem for anything! It makes me happy that it's getting the love and appreciation it deserves.

A criminally underrated set of games, and my second-favorite pokemon(after Black2/White2). Many of its features, like soaring & Dexnav, should've continued on in the series, and it feels like the last game with no pandering to another generation not their own and that most of it was done with love or with smarts.

I hate it for its flaws as much as the next person but at the same time it's a very nostalgic game that's brought back to life beautifully on the 3DS. Really makes me wish there was an alternate universe where modern Pokemon games weren't utter garbage cause ORAS shows that it doesn't have to be that way. Hopefully BDSB won't be a giant disappointment misery of a game cause it also has potential to be great in alot of ways despite the flaws it already seems to have...

My only problem with the exp share is it makes training you team a little less special, like I had a Falinks in SwSh that I caught, had sit in my party, and then used maybe twice in the E4 after leveling it with exp share. It was just another body to fill in my team, I really like its design so it wasn't a problem with the Pokemon or anything. I think there's more investment when you throw your mons out into battle and watch them grow individually.
