After my Top 5 Worst Mario Characters video, its finally time to discuss why I believe Princess Peach is the worst Mario character in the main cast. Sit back, relax, and watch me lose my sanity

The style that I used for this video, anger and yelling for the sake of comedy, was experimental and is something that I don’t think I’ll do again. I can understand that style can make people uncomfortable even if it’s not serious. Also, there’s one thing that I didn’t mention, and it’s how with the ending of Odyssey, we could’ve changed the dynamic we’ve been stuck with for decades. Since Mario would’ve been married to Peach, Bowser would no longer have a reason to kidnap Peach because his moment is gone. We could’ve had new antagonists and threats, returning to the point I made in Part 2. If people are worried that we won’t have him as a main antagonist anymore, we still can, absolutely. Look at Super Mario 3D World, where he doesn’t bother with Peach and instead goes after the Sprixie Princesses. All I’m saying is that the ending of Odyssey took away a lot of opportunities that would’ve finally moved the franchise from the mediocre status quo it’s been stuck in. There’s one more thing that I didn’t add to the video as I believed that there was not enough evidence for it. A lot of people believe that Nintendo went for that ending because they wanted to convey that Peach was a strong and independent woman who didn’t need anybody. I don’t believe this, but given the hypothetical scenario that this was the case, then it was an absolutely idiotic decision. Everything that I discussed clearly shows how she’s not strong or independent at all, so the attempt is laughable, and doing it in this game of all games is asinine timing. They could’ve done that in any other game, yet they just had to do it in the one that presented the idea of Mario possibly getting married to Peach, killing the potential for an amazing next step in Mario and Peach’s relationship, and moving the franchise to new places. One more small thing is that concerning the money she doesn’t use for kingdom defense, she really likes to use it for kart tracks in her kingdom.

This really goes back to the point of part 1, where this is Miyamoto does this in order to preserve the same plot to repeat over and over again, he doesn’t want to deviate from the norm, he doesn’t want to change the plot, he wants to keep the plot line in a stasis where Peach is single, Bowser tries to pull, and Mario c*** blocks, and when there is potential for the story to evolve and change he will side step it to continue the cycle of kidnapping and rescue. This isn’t a moronic oversight, it was an intentional story decision.

To say that she's the worst character is a bit much. I'd say that she's the one that suffers the most from Nintendo's actions since, as stated, Miyamoto hates stories. This was the same guy that had an issue with Rosalina's backstory in Super Mario Galaxy that did nothing to obstruct the gameplay and added actual depth to her and made her a genuine, fleshed out character, if not the most fleshed out in the entire franchise, and Miyamoto had a serious problem with it (which is why it was put in the game behind his back) preferring that she be a 1-dimensional brick like everyone else. The Koopalings being downgraded from being Bowser's kids to just "Boom-boom/Magikoopas" depending on the game, all of the development of Luigi living in his brother's shadow? Gone with the rest of the RPGs. The fact that we even got a movie is astonishing. As someone described him: he's the type who could make the best tasting chocolate chips and will look at you in horror if you ever tried to use them in recipes. Overall, the issue isn't her, it's Miyamoto's closemindedness.

I get most of the outrage towards her is mostly memes/the weird type of fans of other mario ladies putting her down to out them up, but the reason why I don't put much stock in a lot of ppls critiques of her is that most of the ones that aren't just general dissatisfaction at the simplicity of the mainline plots, can be applied to nearly every other recurring character in the series. Mario is possibly a contender for getting kidnapped the 2nd highest amount of times, Daisy was kidnapped the one time, Luigi has been, technically Yoshis in SMW, Donkey Kong and Cranky, Pauline of course. I think the only recurring characters in this universe that haven't gotten kidnapped have just been the straight up villains themselves and I guess Rosalina. Peach is just the go to symbol for that plotline when they wanna give a straightforward simple platforming venture with a goal, cause that's all these kinds of games needed to be when the franchise started. You have a good point on the inconsistency of Peach's capabilities, being helpless one game, then suddenly joining the fray with zero issues in another. But while less frequent for other characters, it does happen as stated whenever they get kidnapped too. So not a huge unique flaw of Peach's specifically. Though I agree, I would like more main games where she's not kidnapped too. Not cause I hate it when she is the DID (in general I have no disdain for the trope on it's own and think ppl just kinda have been conditioned to have a performative negative reaction to it, but that's a whole other discussion) but yeah it'd be nice to have her playable more often in these platformers. She's got cool, unique abilities and we've seen it happen before. And for when she is kidnapped, I think the dilemma could be solved as well by at least putting slightly more effort on explaining WHY she can't escape on her own to respect the powers she does have. Something simple along the lines of whenever Team Rocket in the anime frequently pulls up and goes "this new giant robot is electric proof" when they catch Pikachu lol. But in general, I think the storytelling beauty of the Mario universe lies within the worldbuilding itself rather than something like significantly developing characters. The RPGs can relatively do this cause of the nature of the genre, but even then they keep it pretty usually away from any mainseries recurring characters and are simple, in line with the more loose nature of Mario compared to other RPG series. So that's why I don't really find it as a loss that, for example, Odyssey didn't advance Mario and Peach's relationship and set up a new dynamic for the franchise going forward or something. Cause I don't need it to. Most people I imagine don't need it to, aside from shipping reasons for some lol. And besides, it is pretty clear Mario and Peach do got a lil sum-sum going on, that's been pretty apparent for a while even if sometimes it seems.... Pretty open I'll say when it comes to her rewarding Luigi sometimes or Mario's past interactions with Daisy and Pauline lol. It not ending in marriage and continuing on isn't a big deal (probably cause neither are fully faithful heh), but I get the frustrations and wondering why Odyssey played the wedding card in its theme and iconography in the first fucking place lol. But yeah dude, video was funny af regardless. Sorry for the college thesis of a comment, just woke up and mostly rambling thoughts I had while watching. TL;DR: I disagree that she sucks, mainline Mario is fine being light on story/character development but do agree itd be nice if she were playable more often going forward. Alright I agree with everything but the Odyssey ending, I get that he does so much for her and that the build up was ruined so quickly. But Peach probably didn't want to be treated like a prize which is what Mario and Bowser were doing.

To be fair, Mario tried to do it properly, but Bowser was fucking it up for him. I also brought up how Nintendo were hinting at a growing mutual feeling of romantic love between the two. It just felt like Nintendo threw it all away in that moment where it could’ve been the crescendo of their love, becoming one of the greatest moments in Mario history, maybe even gaming history

Not only has Mario and Pauline dated, Pauline was Mario's girlfriend before Peach replaced her as Mario's focused love interest ever since. Pretty ironic Mario and Pauline has an actual progressive relationship in Mario's very first game than Mario x Peach(Which never happens outside of Mario has a crush on her, and Peach gives kisses on his cheek now and then for reward saving her) for years. And Mario x Peach is a ship people mainly associate with Mario and consider iconic. Makes me wonder why Mario broke up with Pauline in the first place. Personally I like both Mario x Pauline and Mario x Peach. But let's be honest, Pauline's romance relationship with Mario actually went much beyond than anything what Peach did for Mario after saving her numerous times. After Peach rejected Mario on the moon, just saying, Mario should date with Pauline again.

Technically speaking, you’d be right. Pink Gold Peach is a worse character, but when I made my worst Mario characters video, I made the rule that I’d only focus on characters from the main Mario cast; characters who have appeared in the mainline Mario games and have made multiple appearances in the direct spin-offs, like Mario Kart, Mario Party, and the sports games. This was to make it so that the list wouldn’t be made of extremely vague or pointless characters, or ones that’d be too obvious. If I didn’t do that, than the list would have been composed of Pink Gold Peach, and half of the baby characters

First off, don’t even get me started on the end of mario oddesy. I feel bad for the person who went all the way to buy this game, play this for hours and then get the worst ending in history. It just looks like mario went all the way to the MOON, for a long couple marriage, and SHE REJECTS HIM. Peach can’t even defend herself though her hero comes around the moon to save her, and leaves him off on his own, all he did for you just for at the end for you to reject him. She is very very powerful she just choose to have control over how she can handle Bowser other than fight it on the spot and cause more damage for her loved ones. Bowser is a gigantic fire breathing dragon, a tyrant. If he was in front of me i wouldn't even try to look at him lmfao. Peach is very brave and knows how to handle a situation rather than yell and try to start a fight. She risks her well-being and her safety in order to save her loved ones and be sure they're safe FIRST.

It may be the fault of the Toads, but this conflict could have been resolved if Peach employed an actual royal guard throughout her kingdom. The way royal guards work is that they not only have troops with different routes around the kingdom, but around the castle itself. They also have guards who stand guard at certain areas, such as gates and entrances, and some can stand by the castle itself and can observe from certain castle balconies/windows. Sure, the Toads were in charge, but nobody was assigned the role of guard by any royal authority for them to be in charge of; there weren't guards anywhere, around the kingdom, or inside and outside of the castle. And you say that Peach always tries to handle things differently, but in the games, she just stands there. The most egregious example of this is Galaxy, where she stands atop her castle while she sees it go up in smoke, her citizens fleeing around for their lives. Any alternative is better than doing nothing. And like you and I have said, Peach is able to defeat Bowser. Her magic nullifies his, and she has defeated him in more powerful states. She can fight for her kingdom, even fighting him alongside Mario to increase their chances of success, and that would cause less damage than leaving him to his devices, especially if she had a royal guard who can form an army to fight back. You say that would cause damage to her kingdom, but no matter what, there will be damage, and less damage is always better. And she should know by now that Bowser will always come back to be a nuisance, so creating a kingdom defense force would be a good investment. And about Odyssey's post-game, yes, she can go on vacation after being kidnapped into marriage. That's MORE than justified. The problem is that she tells nobody in her kingdom of her intentions, and leaves nobody in charge while she's gone. I would have been forgiving if that was the case, because the person in charge could have been like "Hey, guys, don't worry, it's fine. She just went on vacation, and she's put me in charge for the time being, so you can all calm down. There's no reason to panic. If you have any concerns or there are any situations, you can come to me. Peach told me everything I need to do." But we get nothing like that, which is very irresponsible of her in my opinion. And yes, Mario does expect nothing back, but Nintendo has hinted at a mutual growing relationship between the two, so why have all that buildup and get hype out of Mario X Peach fans, especially with all the wedding imagery and Mario proposing, only to do nothing with it. If anything, it's better to confirm that they aren't in a relationship at all than get our hopes up. Your comment had some fair points that could be refuted against in a constructive manner, then you accused me of sexism. I'm sorry, but if Peach was a man, nothing would change about my criticisms. Besides, I don't hate any other female Mario character outside of Peach. Rosalina? Banger! Daisy? She's fun! Pauline? She's alright. Her identity kind of became "Jump Up Superstar" after Odyssey's release. Birdo? Though she isn't a great character, she's cool. Toadette? She's just okay. She doesn't really do much to stand out. And I will admit, because I saw your other comment, I was rather aggressive for the sake of comedic effect, and it was experimental. I probably won't do something like this again
