I've always felt hip hop collectives should really function like an anarchist affinity group. Individuals agreeing to come together as equals to accomplish a goal democratically. Once that goal is met the group is dismantled and only returned to if needed. Otherwise new formations can take place whenever they want. That way it's recognized as individuals coming together, not a unit of like-minded people when most of the time it's not, and they're free to go their separate ways whenever. They came together to create something and they'll go off alone to create something. When an artist joins an art collective they don't stop doing solo work. Just makes more sense to be practical and realistic and avoid having any leaders or anything like that.

I mean he could’ve not done anything and not sign them and just let them sitting in Detroit with no money at all. That and Mr. Porter now has a career as being a producer. He is signing to both shady and aftermath as a producer. Yes if proof hadn’t of been killed we may have seen two more D12 hours by now but I don’t look at that as a fault of Eminem’s really.

@@niek8877 I see what you’re saying but all I’m pointing out is that those guys did benefit from it. No they didn’t go on to have a successful solo careers as guys like Eminem, Game, or 50 But that’s how it is in every era of hip-hop. At least they are still in the rap game and music is putting food on their table. I mean there are really only two other alternatives. One Eminem doesn’t sign them at all and if he doesn’t do that then they don’t get to experience that was five or six years when they were on top of the world.. The other is that everyone in the group goes on to become Legends. That’s just not how it is. I think the D 12 guys are doing a lot better than the G-Unit guys are financially. MC Ren never went on to have the careers that Cube, Dre and Eazy had. Out of all the guys from Death Row era, only Dre and Snoop Maintain the same status they had back then as they do now. That doesn’t mean guys like Warren G, Daz, Nate Dogg , Trey Deee and Kurupt didn’t get their own blessings . I got Daz’s latest album and I love it. No he’s not going platinum but he owns his own music now and he can sell 20,000 copies and get more money than he would selling 500,000 on a major. Warren G still has a net worth of 10 million. Just because someone is in a stand out doesn’t mean they completely fallen off and are in the dirt and tricking in the streets and shit. And they wouldn’t be in that position if it wasn’t for the guys that became mega stars. I think it’s amazing 3 guys from that era (Em, 50, Game) Manage to stay relevant for 20 years. Go back and look at it at the track record for other labels. They don’t really hold up as well.

You missed the other reasons like death of a member (Beastie Boys) and a record company only wanting to retain a single artist from the group (Busta Rhymes and LONS)

But they are ACTUAL FAMILY. Most of these groups are mostly friends or company.

I’d rather stay a solo artist.
@googleedood97214 жыл бұрын
I agree, and i also believe that as a solo artists it may be wise to for an "alliance" rather than a group. Something like how TDE had Q, Rock, Dot, and Soul do mad collab but still remained solo artists.

Rap groups don't last bcus of money and ego.when u have a group of individuals with different opinions and different thoughts on how they want to do business things fall apart.most groups always come in with the we a team ,we family etc.but soon as they start getting hot are have people whispering in their ear about how much more talented than the other group members are then there's a issue.and when money is involved adults tend to get tired of splitting money with other adults ,they want to go solo ,bcus of artistic differences etc.just too many people involved

No matter the genre i.e. Hip Hop/rap, R & B, Pop, Rock, Country groups never last due to the fact of one or two members of the group having aspirations of a solo career. Jus look at the history Temptations, Jackson 5, the Beatles, NSYNC, Rage Against The Machine, Destinys Child, Dru Hill etc

If they take these cautionary tales "in stride", it means they will not give them much thought. I believe you meant the opposite. Especially following with the "those who dont study history.." quote. To "Take it in stride" means to not let that particular thing have any effect on what you're currently doing. To brush it off, essentially. Regardless, thanks to this channel fot the great work \m/

Yep. And grievance is pronounced "gree- vuns" not "gree-vee-uns". Also "no love lost" is NOT a term of endearment- it is used to describe bitter enemies.
