Why Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Might Be The Saddest Game In The Series

Well, with alternate universes coming in... we may get a 'different' outcome fro. The previous games. Ratchet's Father being alive, Azmuth having more moral values, The Lombax female is a resistance fighter but was the reason Alternate Nefarious Is in power. The Lombax race being the REAL villains, as they expanded their technological abilities, enough to match the Zonis. So many ways, even the Misuse of the Dimensionator twice, that the third time was enough to break the multiverse, enough to make so many stories.

Yes the idea with the Lombaxes being corrupt and of being obsessed with how far they would go to discover more in technology would be an awesome reveal. I was wanting to make a loose mix 2D animation miniseries based on the comics with that reveal too but good thing I’m not the only one wanted that to be a thing. So many possibilities to go into more of the lombaxes side and maybe have Angela come back too with Aogee, if they go to the right dimension.

Honestly, I'm kinda doubtful about the whole "They're characters you know but dIfFeReNt DiMeNsIoNs" thing. First off, it's a bit cliched, but second, what I really want to get into, Is that they've already dabbled with characters going to alternate dimensions, like how the Lombaxes ran away, and how Max Apogee and Angela Cross most likely have fled to a different dimension, so they'd have two concurrent plot directions with how they pull the whole dimensions thing. They have the perfect opportunity to tie up the loose ends with the missing Lombaxes, Max and Angela, but if they do the "Alternate versions from another dimension" thing, they would be going in two different directions which would muddle up the story. What's really weird about this, is that I believe that they'd go with the missing Lombaxes approach, since they have the perfect chance and it would give information to events in the Ratchet lore, but then there's the Mystery Lombax. What the hell is up with her tail? Female Lombaxes don't have tails, so what's the deal with her? I mean, the only other reason that makes sense as to why she has a tail is because of the "Alternate versions" thing, where she's from a different dimension and, in that dimension, female Lombaxes DO have tails, but that means that they either have to throw out the other, better direction that they could've gone with, or retcon the retconning of the retcon. This is so mind-boggling!

Since the Lombaxs will ( I mean they got to be) make a full appearance in the game, it makes since to bring back those 2 characters, especially Max, so Talwyn will have her dad back. Just imagine him asking her, "so where's Cronk and Zephyr?'

Though this didn't happen in Rift Apart, I could still see this happening in the Lombax Dimension game if there are indeed AU Lombaxes in the series. Along with the usual ideas about Ratchet meeting an AU Kaden, I also have this darker subplot for the next game where Ratchet and co. eventually discover a Lombax ally of there's is kind of evil, as he aided the main villain (cough Tachyon cough) pull off his plan just so said Lombax could advance his own agenda and I now think an AU Kaden could fill in that role. Though this would be tragic for Ratchet, it is the thing that would finally make him realize the AU Kaden isn't his real father. This also takes a toll on Ratchet for a bit, allowing us to see him emotional like you said, but luckily he gets comfort by his friends and his real grandfather (who also aids Ratchet in the game) saying his Kaden would never do what AU Kaden did which cheers Ratchet up. This could then be followed in a prequel-ish game I have where Ratchet and co. find and read Kaden's journals about his life where Ratchet learns about what his father was really like and ends up being proud of him.

Well, to be honest, part of me would kinda like to see that happen, too. I’ve even imagined how that would happen. At some point in the game, Ratchet would probably be sadly sitting all alone in fetal position, away from opening dimensional rifts, quietly saying to himself, “I can’t believe this. How can this be happening? The universe is done for, Clank’s gone forever, and it’s all my fault...”. Then, he’d bury his face in his arms and start to cry quietly to himself.

Well, in the original timeline that Clank just changed the six minutes into the past to saved Ratchet's life from his death when Ratchet refused to help Alister Azamuth to use the Great Clock because Ratchet just realized that the Great Clock is not a time machine,... it was kind of sad that Alister Azamuth just died when he sacrificed himself to saved the Great Clock when he finally realized that the Great Clock is not meant to be a time machine during the event of Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. 😔 But it'll be interesting to see an alternative dimensional timeline version of Alister Azamuth in another alternate dimensional timeline in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. I would love to see that. 🙂 I'm not really sure that this mysterious female Lombax is a daughter of alternative version of Alister Azamuth's. 🤔 But that'll be interesting even if that female Lombax is a daughter of alternative Alister's. But I still want to know who this female Lombax is soon. But I'm still excited for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PS5 when it'll be coming in 2021. 🙂

For one and this can be thrown out staright away I highly doubt she's Ratchets daughter but what I do think she is maybe his sister now hear me out sure we know the lombaxes escaped there home world through dimensions but what we don't know through out this entire time is which dimension they're in I think insomniac are trying to trick us into thinking this dimebsion where the female lombax is in is where they were this whole time when in reality they are not not here and instead are somewhere else but maybe in this dimension the lombaxes survived and after a period became a resistence afainst nefarious and instead of birthing Ratchet from his mom and dad they actually have a female in this dimension instead so in a way would make her his sister but kinda him just as a female instead if a male cause alternative dimension so who knows will have to wait and see for ourselves

I think Rift Apart should have an AU Azimuth in the game as besides Ratchet having more of a bond with him then his father, it like you said could explore Ratchet still dealing with the loss of his universe's Azimuth but eventually gets closure. Plus this gives IG some room if they ever wanted to retcon Kaden's death (if he ever did die) so he could appear in a future game.

Hmmm, I dunno. Crack in time is a close call. Learning bout the only other surviving lombax, learning his horrible mistake, then having to fight him since his idea of fixing his mistake would destroy the universe, and got himself killed to fix his mistake at the end.

And now that you mentioned it, I can see the female lombax from another dimension being the daughter of Alister Azmuth given they both have silver fur though perharps she inherited her blue stripes and eyes from her mother.

huh I did think that the other female lombax maybe ratchet's mother. I had a theory that tachyon faked her death and had simply damaged her arm then using a proto type dimensionator exiled her in a different dimension. Because once kaden saw the blood and thinks she's dead it would make him weak with heart break and able to find and kill. I thought that once she takes clank to her hideout he will see a photo of her, aden and a kitten ( that's what I think baby lombaxes are called) clank would see something familiar about the male lombax and the baby. Of course he'd ask the obviously why she has a tail and she'll tell him that she's a female northern lombax where it's cold and need a fluffy tail to keep kittens warm then he'd ask who those two lombaxes are she'd smile and say the male was her husband kaden and her 5 day old son kason . clank would be shocked bause the baby looks like ratchet and this female is his mother. kinda sounds weird right? what do you think.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but for anyone who has not played Rift Apart, there are spoilers beyond this point. You have been warned. The game isn't all that sad, but there are a few melancholy/dark moments, such as Clank admitting he feels at fault, and Ratchet's partial breakdown when traveling with Kit, where he says "What if they're not what I expected? What if they are disappointed in me? What if....?" Before Kit stops him, to prevent him having a straight nervous breakdown. Another 3 are Rivet's flashback to losing her arm, Kit admitting that she saw a rebel and tried to kill them (Rivet) and Rivet realizing Kit was the warbot that shot her arm off.

@@TheRealBlazingDiamond Actually, when it comes to alternate dimensions, time travel isn't really needed in order for Ratchet to have a daughter, or even play a role in doing so. As we know, that there's a big difference between Alternate Timelines, like with the Flash, and Alternate Dimensions/Realities, like Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. Prime example is the Marvel Universe/Multiverse, in one universe called the MC2, Peter and MJ have a daughter named May "Mayday" Parker, who is also Spider-Girl. While in Earth-616, They gave up their daughter, in order to save Aunt May, in One More Day. I can go on, but what I'm saying is, just because the Dimensionator doesn't have a "Time Travel" factor to it, it does not completely rule out, the fact that in alternate dimensions, there are endless possibilities, like a alternate version of Qwark that isn't a meat head lol.

I don’t see an alternate Ratchet dying in that alternate dimension, at least not in the way you described. For starters, if Alister killed Ratchet at the great clock, it would allude to them having defeated Nefarious. And in this dimension, Nefarious won (most likely in the UYA timeline). Also the female Lombax didn’t know who Ratchet was. If Ratchet was as famous as in his dimension or her Clank knew him, you think she would at least know his name. Like you said, this is a game for newcomers and old fans alike, so the lore will be there, but not too complicated. Having the female Lombax somehow related to Alister or Ratchet’s family is a common writing tactic to help better relate the characters. It’s fine, but it has to be done right, otherwise it seems cliche. For now though, I want her character to be written well enough for her to be memorable without being related to anybody. Honestly, the most emotional points in the series so far, for me, is not with Ratchet, but with Clank. And it’s whenever he walks away when his parents are trying to tell him how proud they are of him, lol. “Clank, I just wanted to say how proud I am of and he’s gone.”

Nice i like the ideas hear good theory but i have one thing to add that might make this even more mind blowing. We know that in the main timeline(dimension) Kaden and Azimuth where close friends and your theory is that it was the same in the other timeline. Now even though we have not heard much about Ratchets mother it is easy to presume she was friends with both Kaden and Azimuth and ended up with Kaden having Ratchet, but in the other timeline she chose Azimuth and like you suggest in the video the female Lombax is his daughter. with he addition of the mother to Vivi's theory this makes the female Lombox an alternate timeline Ratchet and also ratchets interdimensional sister.

I just watch something very interesting, in the minute 7:38 we can see ratchet, and clank next to him, but in the back of ratchet, there is another robot, and that robot is not clank, because clank is next to ratchet, so maybe the clank of the other dimension looks exactly like the clank we all know, but this is just a theory, hope you like it 👍👍😊😊

Bruh, what if ratchet went into the dimension when Alister actually killed ratchet from crack in time. Then he went and tried to save the lombaxs and failed. Causing his dimension to collapse and got sucked into another dimension. Then that dimension was actually the lombax dimension, found a partner and had a child (female lombax). Then the dimensions were collapsing again and ratchet stumbles into that dimension. With Alister probably being older, recognises Ratchet and orders his daughter to kill Ratchet. That would be the coolest and worst boss fight. Or Maybe this female lombax is Ratchets half-dimensional sister. Where in that dimension Ratchets father had a girl instead of a boy. Idk, but I expect a huge plot twist in the game, so hyped. I’ll still buy the next game no matter what. (Also I would really like photo mode to take that potential shot of Ratchet seeing this female lombax for the first time).

I don't know about it bein' the saddest feelin' game in the series but it looks like it got a similar tone to Into The Nexus, in my opinion A Crack In Time will still take the spot of the saddest in the series, nothin's really beat it yet, the story was so dark, game had the most deaths (Ratchet and Alister) they go talkin' about the death of their relatives (Ratchet's parents) it felt the most serious and urgent in tone, but everyone got a different opinion, what's yours if it ain't the new game I mean?

I have an idea for the game's opening that would not only be fun but also be a great way to recap events of the current timeline for new fans, including referencing characters as like u said some characters u mentioned may not have big roles in the game. The game opens on a Solana news channel where Dallas and Jaunita are doing a news special for national heroes day, a day dedicated to heroes across the universe, by going over the deeds of the heroes of the Solana Galaxy. After doing a quick recap of Qwark's "heroic deeds" and showing a pic of him at the opening of Helga's new gym the move on to Ratchet & Clank. Here they go over a list of the biggest deeds the duo have done over the years from defeating Drek to banishing Mr. Eye but ends with there biggest feat of defeating Dr. Nefarious multiple time, while images of theses events are shown. They then go over how since ITN. though the duo are helping in the search for Nefarious and fighting crime, they have been taking it easy (referencing that line in the RA demo where Ratchet says "feels good to be back in action") and again show images of Ratchet and Clank having fun like attending a Q-Force reunion with Al and Sasha, Clank appearing at a comic con dressed as Secret Agent Clank, and several news tags featuring Ratchet on dates with Talwyn. the news reporters then say that the two will be in a parade in there honor at Megalopolis and state that many things are in there future, foreshadowing the beginning of Rift Apart.

I can totally see that scenario happening! Ratchet meeting an alternate version of his dad, knowing its not HIS dad, but still longing to get closer to him and work with him because he never knew his real dad. I'm still holding on to my theory that the female Lombax is an alternate version of "our" Lombaxes because her fur's color scheme doesn't match the fur color scheme of "our" lombaxes: gold with brown and white with burgundy. The female Lombax's color scheme is cream with lavender. 6:32 Depression! I actually give props to Insomniac for exploring Ratchet's psychy and emotional well-being in the comics. It's completely believable due to everything he's been through up until that point. Most writers for media targeted towards a younger audience don't delve into the emotional side of what their characters are going through, and that's where some fanfiction comes in because the fans aren't satisfied with the scraps of emotional content that they're given. But Ratchet and Clank... It really hit me when I watched your video summarizing the comics. That's the kind of writing I love. Writing that can physically draw out an emotional reaction from me is some of the best writing in my opinion because I'm hella jaded, so it takes A LOT to get that. And that scene in the ending cutscene of Into the Nexus with him laughing off his continued misfortune? ValeforXD may have said it as a joke in his "Everything Wrong with Into the Nexus" video, but he was right.

I can see that "he's not your father" idea also working with Talwyn. Since the game is going over the R&C Omniverse (as it was called by Qwark) people have been theorizing that Max Apogee will be in the game but what if instead we meet a AU Max Apogee who lost his version of Talwyn or never had a child.

Ok so I actually have a theory that kaden isn’t dead allister just asumed he was dead And sense this game is all about dimensional travel I think it’s possible that we will see the lombax dimension and maybe even the zoni dimension these are the two places I want to explore in ratchet and clank both when it comes to lore and exploration I mean have you seen the concept art for the zoni dimension in the insomniac museum in a crack in time it looks beautiful plus there’s this one fan made concept of the zoni dimension that freaking love The Zoni Dimension by IscaRedspider on @DeviantArt go check it out they also made concepts for different species of zoni and a zoni armor for ratchet like looking at the concept art I can already imagine how it will look in 3D and how you would traverse the area

(before i'm going to write this, ssory for my mystakes, I'm from Russia, and russian - it's my main laguage) I don't think that in the new game we will see any of alternative character, what we know. Because it doesn't make sense, we allready seen alternate dimensions, and tnis dimensions was whole new worlds with another law of physics and another creatures like Cragmites and aliens from netherverse. It is not another vesions of thing what we know. Actualy we know that Lombaxes ran away to another dimension, and again if Insomniac going to show us another version of lombaxes - it's not right, because we haven't even seen our version of lombaxes. About Imperor from another dimension... Think logicaly, who was named like Imperor? Yes, It's Tachyon, amd he is actually a Cragmite, and he didn't die, he is alive So I thing that when Nefarious use his dimantinator, Tachyon exploit the situation and comeback to our world About Lombaxes, we will see that lombaxes, what hiden them selfes into another world, it's just more logicaly

I believe this will top, A Crack In Time, in terms of story and character, IG has grown a lot since then, so they know how to tell a great story, and have us invest in the characters, especially OG characters like Al and Helga, and future characters like Sigmund, I'm believing he will make an appearance, I wanna know how he's been doing, and will there any mention of the Great Clock? I have a feeling that considering how bad the reboot to the games were because it didn't feel like a ratchet and clank game in terms of story insomniac purposely went back to the nexus tineline and continued on that cause remember that timeline had some really great story that could've been expanded upon like hopping from dimension to dimension and where Ratchets race gone to things like that and this new upcoming game will defiently be that also I have a strange feeling that they'll kill off Ratchets race why do I say this well considering that they are most likely in the dimension where nefarious won it's not to unlikely that they were killed off and the only one to survive is the mysterious female lombaxs we saw at the end of the gameplay showcase who knows will just have to wait and see

About Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart being the saddest game, i don't know. So far the most emotional game in the series is probably Crack In Time. I know this is kinda off topic, but if you think deep, the saddest game is probably the first Ratchet and Clank. But this "sadness" is a little bit different. There are Wars, Pollution, everybody wants to scam or kill you. Not to mention Ratchet is a big jerk to Clank. But can you really blame him? Ratchet was stuck in a desert planet his whole life. It's kinda understandable that he wants to explore the universe. Even though the Ratchet and Clank One atmosphere was depressing, that kind of crap made me love the game. It was edgy. I know this has nothing to do with the video, but you could actually turn this into a video like: " The sad truth about Ratchet and Clank" 🤣🤣. As for video related, i would love pretty emotional moments, but like the strong ones which potentially can make you cry. I honestly think Insomniac could went for it and even making characters die during the game. As for returning characters, i would like to get shocked with some unexpected returns. I haven't been watching you for a while ( for like 2 months ). But i came back and watched all of your most recent videos. And this was a good video as always 👍. Now i better stop writting before this turns into a book.

For sure, definitely feel that way about the original game. I liked Ratchet's attitude, it made him a more engaging character. Especially when knowing that Ratchet, in his anger, could have abandoned Clank at any time but chose to stick with him makes that story really gripping. The series needs some more emotional moments, it seems like this series hasn't made me feel anything since Nexus back in 2013.

@@Skehrcros Yeah, i totally agree with you. The first game was so special about so much stuff. Unlike the Reboot, where everyone was like: " Hey stranger, i will offer this gadget i made for free, because we are friends yay! " But the first game on the other hand, every single person you found you had to pay money for their services, even after saving them. And the people who had their homes destroyed died, or at least left without anything. I would like some emotional moments and shocking returns. I really want to see the Thugs-4-less leader ( i really think he was a very good character in Going Commando ) and i honestly would love to see Drek returning and wanting his revenge cuz he managed to escape the planet he was creating that Ratchet and Clank destroyed. Imagine this: A reunion between all the villains of the whole Ratchet and Clank series ( alternate villains or not ). Anyways, guess we cannot do anything, otherwise than wait for the game to release.
