I was able to see Indy 5 and after watching it, I think it's time we discusses the value of endings and why sometimes it's better to leave stories alone if the people handling the film aren't aware of how to move the story forward without breaking what came before it.

My only problem with the kingdom of the crystal skull is that it forgot one vital detail about good old Doctor Jones. Indy already had a son, who he had a much more compelling father son relationship with. Short round. He has nothing but genuine affection for the boy, he lets Short Round sleep on his lap in the plane trip, he lets the kid wear his hat, and he is the only character in the franchise he genuinely likes without caveats. A father son movie with Indy passing on his tourch to Short Round would be a amazing movie, probably my all time favorite.

I agree whole heartedly and I think that was the fundamental floor of the Kingdom of the Crystal skull, forgetting that relationship. It’s why I said one of the only options you could’ve done for another Indiana Jones movie was closing that final door. Imo it would have been fitting if we got to see these two characters who both went off to live their own lives come together one last time.

My pitch for an Indy continuation is akin to Option A. Mutt is struggling with alcoholism and PTSD after returning from the Vietnam War and he’s become a shut in after the political fallout hit him and so many other veterans. His dad (who’s now the Dean of the College) sends him out on a mission to track down the Kusanagi, as a means of getting him back on his feet. “The Son of Indiana Jones” I called it.

You know, its incredible how most writers of the past were okay to just saying, the end. Endings are about accepting nothing is forever. Stories move on. People move on. Will the modern culture frown upon it because its old? Possibly, but will they be forgotten? Well, no, but hollywood isn’t afraid about IPs being forgotten. They're afraid of not having bankable IPs.

Reeve nailed it when calling out the studios need to make sequels. I totally get it, for me crystal skull will be the end of Indy for me. When I look at the Star Wars sequels I just ignore them and stick to George’s vision. However on the other side I love the alien and predator movies, and tend to enjoy all of them. I have finally warmed up to alien 3 with all its short comings because I the actors were good. Resurrection I love even more because of the style and story of the film with clone ripley; even though it was unnecessary. Point is I’ve got my own tastes in film and have come to realise that’s all that really matters when a movie or sequel tends to come out.
@TheFirstOkiro
@TheFirstOkiro Жыл бұрын
I think having a preference for what you enjoy when it comes to movies is the biggest thing when it comes to enjoyment But I also think the biggest difference between the alien movies is that every extra entry really doesn’t take away from the last for the most part. They can vary in quality, but the story of Ripley was told

Its great you have that ability to pick movies out of a franchise you like and ignore the bad ones. Some people let modern versions of IP'S they love destroy characters or movies they love. Like some people say PICARD S1 and S2 has ruined every episode of TNG for them and they now hate Picard himself. I personally just pretend S1 and S2 never happened and just enjoy my previous memories of the character and the show. Even though S3 wasn't the best it was enjoyable . I thought Crystal Skull was above average and seems to lose its way half way through and becomes a bit of a bloated mess but I still watch it from time to time. I have a feeling DOD will be a type of car crash viewing experience like she hulk were you slow down just to see how awful it is

I think what they could've done with this movie is have Indiana travel to India after retiring where he visits the same village from the second movie. There, he meets the vilkagers, whom many of the adults were once the children who were enslaved in the second. They remember indiana and welcome him with open arms. For me, a good ending is a way to let a complete story be told. Bad endings are the ones that cry out for closure, unless they're done well (as paradoxical as that sounds). Another part of it is that, i have a hard time putting emotional attachment into a story before it's finished. Why should I really care when it could be left on a cliffhanger that the original crew and artists cant finish?

the disregard to bring short round back after temple of doom was a huge missed opportunity. I would have loved to see them reunite. While it is an interesting premise dial has nothing to add to Indy lore. I personally think the opening is a great starting point for this story. Let’s say Indy and Marion are not doing well, Indy has no desire to keep working on their relationship and becomes an alcoholic. marion finally sees him struggling and has had enough. she calls short round and they both stage an intervention. then you follow the short round comic book where short round and indy go on one final adventure together to find the remains of nurhachi from the opening of temple like the story from the comic book. it has an interesting premise while adding more to the Indy franchise.

I agree, but I do think woke has evolved past its original meaning. I'm sure it was used properly in the context of film, but it's definitely taken on a more generalized meaning pertaining to anything against injustice to some group of people. The issue with it as far as I can tell isn't that she's a woman, but that they're using her as a woman to sell the film. It's like what John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran said about their experiences on the sequels, that they were used to get people interested and not for proper inclusion. I may just watch or know of people who aren't dickheads about it but that's how I've seen it when someone brings it up

I decided to wait until I saw Dial of Destiny to watch this video, and for me, I liked the movie. I kept seeing bad things in headlines and in thumbnails, but didn't bother to click anything because I wanted my opinion of the film to be my own. I don't find Kingdom of the Crystal Skull a satisfying conclusion to Indiana Jones, to be honest it's still Last Crusade, but Dial of Destiny was a much more fun adventure and it ended on a bit more of a high note for the franchise. I don't even hate what they did with Marion and Mutt. To me, I think Mutt and Indy having a contentious relationship that leads Mutt to joining the military out of obstinance to make sense. I have no doubt that he never actually thought it through, and perhaps being antiauthoritarian doesn't make sense to join the military, but Mutt does also just kind of act on impulse, but then once he was in, he was in and there was no getting out. He probably immediately regretted it, almost like when Young Indy joined the Belgian Army in the Young Indy series. Is it a shame that he died? Absolutely, but it also does drive another wedge between Indy and Marion to explain why she isn't around in Dial of Destiny, and I think that's better than also killing her off with cancer or something. And she does ultimately return, it's just the dynamic between the two. They're just always going to be doing this dance of being on again off again, and can never seem to fully escape from one another. As for Helena Shaw, I don't really have a problem with her either and she's a bit more like a Belloq than a Short Round. I wouldn't have minded if she was a long lost daughter of Indy's from one of his many flings, we still don't know if Sophia from the original version of the Young Indy series still exists in canon, so I feel like the two characters could have been one in the same, but that's not too important. Dial of Destiny was a very enjoyable movie to me, I have no big qualms with it, and we already got the perfect ending with Last Crusade, so if it really bothers people, just omit stuff, it's not like Crystal Skull or Dial of Destiny were crucial installments to a larger picture anyway. Now, I hope they're kind of done with this universe going further into the future and getting closer and closer to the modern day, I don't need that, but if Disney wants to jump back into the past with another Young Indy series or do animated stuff or whatever, that's cool, there's 70-ish years of adventures to explore, it's all up for grabs, and you can still pick and choose what you do and don't like.

And as for not knowing when to stop: that's how (in my opinion) the perfect ending to the old Star Wars universe was ruined. Luceno wrote the final New Jedi Order book as a conclusion for Luke, Leia, Han and their families. But then Del Rey couldn't let go of the characters or create their planned Old Republic Era book series… and "thanks" to Troy Denning we got Darth Caedus and goddamn bug orgies.

I actually feel Ford himself is an idiot for accepting this script & agreeing to do it .

Vocal delivery of this video was unappealing and oddly melodramatic for my taste. Well edited though and the content was also good. I’m rooting for you.

the nice ending and bringing Marion back were the only good things about Crystal Skull. Let's not kid ourselves, that movie was a massive disappointment, it was boring, the story was uninteresting and didn't make sense, it lacked humor and excitement. The Mutt character was just a dumb greaser, a very one-dimensional character. At least Helena has some kind of arc where initially she seems to only care about money but in the end saves Indy from a moment where he couldn't think clearly and realise he still belonged to 1969. Plus she at least made me chuckle a couple of times. On top of that Dial of Destiny is much better made, more entertaining, has some great locations and cinematography, the action is better, and the ending with Indy coming face to face with a historical figure he reveres feels much more right for the series than that silly alien/spaceship ending. It's still not as good as the OT but has that globe-trotting adventure feel of Raiders and Last Crusade. Considering how much of a dud Crystal Skull was I'm really glad they made another one to make up for it.

Destroying iconic male characters and then passing their mantle to an insufferable female character. Modern Hollywood in a nutshell.

I haven't seen "Dial of Destiny" yet, but it seems to me like this is Disney's Star Wars vs. George Lucas' prequels all over again; everyone (!) keeps complaining about the prequels, then ep 7 comes along and is much (!) more faithful to the atmosphere of the old movies, yet somehow that's attacked even more, just because it's not George Lucas, with everyone apparently forgetting that it was Lucas himself who treated his own original movies so badly, as if they were inferior because they didn't have a ton of cgi in them etc. (unfortunately, Disney ended up screwing it up after all, imo, as being true to the atmosphere only gets you so far and ep. 8 would have needed a great script / story progression to be an appropriate sequel to the promising start that was ep 7, but instead was an anticlimactic mess, a huge part of which was caused by Disney listening to the haters (!) too much, btw!). And as for Indy 5, I know at least one thing it appears to be doing better than "Crystal Skull", which is be conscious Harrison Ford's advanced age and the fact that Indy could be considered "out of time" (the conclusion obviously being that he's not really, I'm guessing...) and work those things into the story by having him retire and then brought back from that (which is literally (!) what I said back then "Crystal Skull" should have done, which instead kinda tried very hard to act like nothing had changed). We'll, I'll see for myself very soon...

The term "woke" may have been created years ago - and with the best intentions......but acting as if the definition hasn't changed over time is completely absurd. You can act all high and mighty about the subject - and call everyone who takes issue with wokeness an idiot.....but thats lazy. Now i realize this video wasn't made to discuss woke ideology in movies; so i think it would be unfair to expect you to take a lot of time discussing the nuances involved in the subject. That being said.... you made a choice to comment on the subject - and i think you did so in a rather dishonest, and misleading way. This is only my personal opinion of course.... but i think it's a valid one.

I had written the below comment awhile ago on some review of Dial of Destiny that echoed your same sentiment. It’s not trolling, it’s not spreading vitriol for the sake of being a dick. If someone truly, and I mean truly gets entertained or even loves something, I’ll never try to admonish or take that away. Thoughts as a fan: Regarding what the reasoning is behind ALL of the “Last Jedi” decisions, and you all know what I’m talking about. I left the theatre feeling sick to my stomach, confused, bewildered and just….not happy. This was after seeing Force Awakens multiple times. Concerted efforts to do the following; Men? Portray them as emasculated, losers, broken, give up, inflating women to have obnoxious, annoying unearned confidence and infallibly ..I am talking about ALL of it ok? I want you all to not in such a myopic way and objectively, without ego, step back and consider this: The systematic dismantling & purposeful denigration of beloved properties and characters; old and new hero’s alike, the PROVEN track record of inserting all of the bullshit sane people/fans/non ideologically based lovers of film tv and comics etc. do NOT want is on purpose to sully and deflate your own soul and your own idea of heroism …it’s to crush your spirit. On purpose. Top Gun Maverick = Huge yes. Indy 5 = an annoying harpie twat scab feminist, a ‘don’t mansplain’ cunty, fake strong, false hero female ragging on and knocking out Indy in HIS OWN film + final hurrah + send off = Huge spirits crushing piece of weaponry solidified in film format for people to ingest. They consistently fail upwards, they lose money yet always have some source backing their failures, nobody ever answers to it with fair replies, it’s always “You are racist”, “You hate strong and or all women”, “Times are changing, white man baaaad” etc etc etc. It seems to be an enemy with great resources and great reach within the rooms where decisions get made. I invite you all, especially as fans of Indy and his adventures, to watch the recently released “Featurette”. If you show anyone with half a brain cell that heart string tugging, beautifully edited and given testimonials from everyone from Kennedy, to Mangold, to that Fleabag bitch, to Ford himself …they say “Wow, everyone involved ‘gets it’ and understand what we fans -old and new alike- truly want! We are in good hands guys!! ✊🏼🥹”….no. No it was propaganda to sell the film, to get you there and then to SHOW you that they want to crush everything you love. End of story. I’ve sit and watched and thought very carefully about this. Best thing to do? 👇🏼 Outwardly via all youtube channels, social media whatever, SHOW them their sad and mean spirited attempts to harm your spirits aren’t doing a goddamn thing. Liken it to them being an obvious, annoying little sister who can go play G.I.Joe’s with you and your friends…just shoo, go away, that’s cute I’ll be over here engaging in fun escapism, being playful and dreaming about how good always triumphs evil. Be happy, revel in pure enjoyment and elation, satisfaction that the mental pictures and feelings of joy, heroism elicited in you, inspired you, entertained you & you do it proudly, unabashedly. More importantly, do it IN not necessarily the face of this evil, but for YOU. We’ve got all 4 other Indy films. I am putting Crystal Skull in there because at it’s core, it wasn’t designed to harm any fans or have you hypnotized that all men are losers who are broken which require the likes of some…’thing’ like that Waller Bridge idiot. It gave Indy a happy and he was a hero in that film. Fuck these dummies. I am sending so much love, spiritual, physical abundance & equanimity for you all…your families and friends and just as importantly? I am sending 💛 to that little child that is in within all of our hearts and imaginations. Fortune and glory to you all. May the Force be with you. ****The real Fortune, Glory and Force…not the other kind pushed down everyone’s throats like an, veiny, dirty dick that these soiled and covered souls wish to unzip and insert*** 💛✊🏼🎬🌟🙏🏼 God bless.
