This episode really hit home for me because honestly, for the better decade and a half of my life as a VA/remote worker/independent contractor, I have NEVER received a 13th month bonus. There were incentives for sure and other bonuses. But this 13th month bonus was never in any of my previous work agreements, not that I expected it from foreign clients, but then I just got used to it, I guess... well, it took me 15 years to go through the phases of denial to acceptance. But hearing this discussion made me realize how important it is to have conversations about compensation and to educate clients about why this bonus is such a big deal in Filipino culture. It’s not just about the money-it’s about being seen, valued, and appreciated for the work we do. It’s also a reminder of how employers can go beyond the bare minimum and foster deeper loyalty and trust with their team. This episode opened my eyes to the potential for creating better relationships between remote workers and their clients, and I hope it inspires more clients to take these cultural differences into account. If you’re a VA or a business owner, this is definitely something to think about. Thanks for putting this out there, Chris! You rock! More power to Kayana!!!
