I love how depiction the Nanahoshi was in mask, sitting in higher position, distant from Rudeus, alone and isolated - "We're different you and I. I have no trust in you.". Then took it off, smiled, and got closer to him - as in "We're in the same boat! I found a confidant!" - only then to back off in horror, putting on the mask, closing her off once. Being alone again.

Some of the stuff that's been "skipped" in the past is just being withheld until the moment when it'll have the most impact. Sylphie's outburst is the perfect time to drop the revelation that her parents are dead because we're as taken aback in that moment as Rudy and Nanahoshi are.

In essence Rudeus gain a second chance, one in which he could take his prior 34 years of experience and apply it to a fresh start he got grow and expand his knowledge with the realization of his potential going forward. Nanahoshi, on the hand was half Rudeus' age with no soul crushing experiences in her old life comes to this world with the feeling that all her potential lies with the life she has lost. she receives no surrogate parents and also has no mana so magic is still abstract to her anything she does relies on others providing her with mana, something that probably makes for an alienating experience. Also with the mana disaster occurring around Rudeus' birthday I wonder if his spirit was pulled back in time Nanahoshi got transported on some sort of resonant echo

Nanahoshi's whole "quest" to research magic circles as a means to return home is honestly one of the sweetest parts of the entire LN series. It's just a constant drip in the background that gets checked up on every so often and every time its, like, the most interesting chapter of that volume.

Given that she'd had some time to chat with her while Rudy was passed out and that Nanahoshi clearly wasn't expressing hostility and that she didn't actually see Rudy's initial reaction I think it'd actually be wierd if Sylphy was hostile from that opening scene. I imagine she was more preoccupied with getting to pet the boy she likes.

I wouldn't consider this a true spoiler, since I'm only drawing on what we've seen in the anime to this point, but I'll give it the 6x-return treatment anyway. I think we can now conclude something else related to the truck incident. Please keep this spoiler-free for anything past where the anime is. I think we now have enough pieces to conclude that someone else *was* summoned from the truck incident, besides Rudeus and Nanahoshi. Combining the brief scenes we get of the truck incident in episodes 1 and 2, we see that Nanahoshi was with two of (presumably) her friends when the truck came - a taller boy with lighter hair, and a shorter boy with darker hair. Almost certainly those were the two names she showed Rudeus. In the aftermath of the truck in episode 1, we see the darker-haired boy sitting in an ambulance being questioned (he's the one with a towel on his head). However we also hear the police radio voice-over that *two* high school students thought to have been hit are currently missing. *Missing,* as in no body or anything. One of those is clearly Nanahoshi, but the other must be the second of the two boys who was talking with her, which strongly suggests he was teleported/summoned away the same way Nanahoshi was. Obviously he didn't arrive at the same time/place that Nanahoshi did, and there's no other hint of a similar teleportation disaster that could line up with his arriving earlier, so it seems likeliest that he'll show up later, in a similar way and under similar conditions to what we've seen with Nanahoshi. It's funny, when I first started watching the series, that voice-over line about two other possible victims being missing stuck me as odd and likely significant, but I never fully realized *how* it was significant until now. This show really likes to pull that pattern of showing us a significant detail, and then a bit later giving us the information to understand why it's significant in a slightly sneaky way. The same pattern happened with Nanahoshi's other appearance, where we see her speak to Orsted in a completely normal tone (no hint of massive innate hatred or fear), and then only learn the information that tells us what that could mean for her origin in the next scene when Rudeus is talking about Orsted's curse with Hitogami.

Fascinating episode. Confirmed some speculations but opened up a bunch of new theories. Big implications! (Anime only). As soon as the revelation came out that Nanahoshi was the girl from Japan, I speculated 2.5 things: 1) She was the cause of the mass teleportation (confirmed later in the ep). My guess is it was an unintended side effect of bringing her there, which meant... 2) Someone wanted HER there for some reason (likely one of the gods, Laplace, or some new, unnamed person). That + the fact Orsted didn't KNOW Rudy when they met, means it's likely that Rudy intervened in her summoner's plans. SHE was supposed to be reincarnated, not Rudy, so... 2.5) The Man-God likely intervened on this other summoner's plans by somehow tipping the situation so Rudy saved her and became the reincarnation instead. So the summoner had no choice, to get her here, he had to do the displacement technique. Thus this chain of events. Could be overthinking it. Still don't trust the Man-God. Rudy & Nanahoshi are pawns in a larger plot. Guessing these gods want people in our world, because they have massive mana potential (when taught from a young age). Was Laplace one as well? Similar themes in 12 Kingdoms.

It would imply that: 1) through her studies, she firmly believes that the other person isekai'd was japanese, otherwise she would probably have first tried speaking english as it is more of a universal language 2) those two full names are most likely the names of the two guys that were with her on the sidewalk before the truck struck them. This would explain why she immediately asked Orsted to revive him, since he could be one of her friends. 3) This would mean that, after all her studies of teleportation, she believes that someone else in close proximity could've been teleported along with her. Since he isn't one of her friends, her next guess on Rudeus' identity is probably "the random fat dude who tried to push/save me", even though he never mentioned none of it. Or it could be that the two japanese names came to her/Orsted's knowledge in this world, which i think is extremely unlikely but it would imply that more teleportations/reborns have happened before. What makes that even more unlikely is that the isekais would all be japanese and would have told someone their real japanese names like that.

I haven’t read the manga, so my hypothesis is that someone summoned Nanahoshi, but summoning someone from another world took so much mana that the spell had a massive back blast at the area of impact, pulling Nanahoshi there, but forcing all who were there away. Kinda like how missiles have a back blast, though on a much smaller scale.

yes, the displacement incident aka mana calamity was exactly that. The summoning required absurd amount of mana so it "devoured" every nonliving thing and converted those to pure mana while also displacing every living things to everywhere across the world

I thought it was really cool how much of the Human God conlang language was in this episode, I mean, it's literally the language they're speaking 99% of the time in canon. Also I originally guessed based on the short clips of Nanahoshi at the end of the Wyrm fighting episode and in the opening that she was researching in order to help Orsted, perhaps lifting his curses or something. Guess not. Unless...? I was also disappointed that she hated the Six-Sided World. I was hoping she would be a cool character who I could respect, but instead she's just an interesting character who fuels unease. Anyway I want more people to appreciate the language we got to hear in this episode. It's awesome every time we get to hear the conlangs created for and used in this story. So cool. Nah man it makes sense that she would hate this world other than the fact that she hates those types pf stories (LN and RPGs and stuff)... She was dropped there alone with no mana, no way to defend herself, no way to grow age or strength wise, if orsted hadn't found her first & given her those rings to defend herself with she would've probably been kidnapped and forced into being a sex slave or at least a slave. And like she said, she found the morality of this world "dubious" to say the least. It's an absolute farcry from the modern day world in her eyes. @@Hashman588 You do have a point in that the fact that she couldn't age or change much in any way sucked and she would probably be fucked if not for Orsted. But if she is an intelligent person that shouldn't be something that makes her hate the world, only something that makes her resent her specific situation. However, the main part of her and your assessment that is objectively wrong is that the moral position in The Six-Sided world is any worse than ours. That notion is a delusion. Because we like to think we're better than other people. Outside of the millions of modern slaves in the traditional sense of slavery who exist in Africa, the middle East and Asia, and in hidden places in the west, there are many millions more in our world who are enslaved in a less traditional sense. Chained by the inescapable machine of industrial society that forces people to be cogs. Our leadership certainly isn't any better either. They're _at least_ as scummy, corrupt, and deplorable as those in the Six-Sided world, probably more so. And finally as for practices like torture that we have discarded in our modern era, we have plenty of new horrible immoral practices and ideas to replace them. These facts just slip under the noses of most people who live easy in developed countries and like to think themselves and their world superior. Back to things that aren't as objective, I think only a fool would value the convenience of the modern world. Because the convenience of the modern world is born by technology's feeding method of consuming and destroying Beauty, leaving only shallow ease and conveniences in return. These things have negative value in the grand scheme. I wouldn't necessarily dislike her if she just wanted to go back to her world for whatever reasons, I do dislike her for her foolish ivory tower assessment that the Six-Sided world is bad, at the very least it's certainly not worse than our own. ​@@GustafUNL Her original world refers not to the planet Earth in general, but rather Japan itself, which to a person like her is incomparably better than this medieval setting she's stuck in. Sure, a LOT of our world is filled with atrocities, greed and malice but that really does not apply to a regular teenager living in a normal, civilized country. What she knows is that she lived a normal, perfectly ordinary life where she was not really wanting for anything, had friends and family and probably a path she wanted to follow in life. And then she suddenly lost all of it completely unfairly, ended up somwhere that constantly threatens you with magical beasts straight from your nightmares, scum who think nothing of making a slave out of you (sometimes even "legally", might I add), crazed magicians that can accidentally kill you with magic she can't even use to potentially defend herself, and she's told that it's all a natural occurence here. Does it not sound like a complete nightmare? I'd say that modern world is better than the Six-Sided one in terms of morality and such. Is it perfect? Far from it, sometimes it's way worse. Something tells me the reason she was teleported there is likely due to someone swapping places with her to travel back to her world. Summoning and teleporting aside, while summoning can be the result of bringing something to you, and teleporting the result of moving a person from one place to another, its likely that someone else was in a similar boat as she was, where they were likely stuck there for years, to possibly centuries after a similar event happened even farther back, when such magic was more prevalent. Considering the only way to do what was done with her, would mean that whoever did it, found a way to mix both summoning and teleporting, and either wanted to go back to our earth as much as her... or simply wanted out of that world regardless of who's place he took. Still though, for someone to possess such capabilitiee would put them on par with the gods themselves, as not even the gods know what had happened to cause such an incident.

8:09 The Japanese is exactly the same in the books and the anime - 同郷 is a somewhat vague term so the translators just translated it differently. It more or less means "same hometown," but I can see why the anime translators went with "place," since it can mean same town/village/province, etc. But the word does imply that they grew up in the same place, which is why Sylphie reacted the way she did. 7:50 Flag (furagu) in Japanese more or less strictly means "something that foreshadows a future event" so there is no ambiguity there. The "route" part in the panel you show can be confusing for English book readers (and Japanese audiobook listeners like me), because the kanji is 因果 or "cause and effect," but they reading is shown as ルート (ruuto: route). In other words, the author wants you to read it as "route" but understand the meaning as "cause and effect" (when used in Buddhism, 因果 also means karma/fate so that's just another layer).

I wanted to comment during the stream, but I'm wondering if humans can't be summoned, maybe it was someone (either reincarnated or who knows of other worlds,) attempting to make their way to/back to the other world and the huge amount of mana required for the task caused what we saw, and perhaps pulled people from the other world like nanohoshi into this one.

Nanahoshi is a really interesting character. I don’t know if this will be on the anime or not, but the age difference from their past still counts for a little bit in the new world. She doesn’t know Sailor Moon, but has at least heard about Dragonball :) and she has some signs of being a shut in, which is a. It weird because of the lovers quarrel in the very first episode, but hey. Seeing Japanese characters in this show was incredibly surprising, especially because I didn’t understand why the show was starting to translate the new world language again.

That's the thing, had he chosen to go he would have simply teleported to Earth as Rudeus Greyrat, same as how Nanahoshi would've teleported. Yes, we wouldn't have any relatives in Japan, and he would look foreign and European to the Japanese. He would also have no money unless he brought along gold or something valuable with him, but I guess Nanahoshi would have probably helped him out and maybe given him a place to stay or something. If Rudeus keeps his magical abilities then he's set for having a comfortable, maybe even an extraordinary life in our world.

Thanks for another great video. It actually cleared up a misunderstanding I had from watching the episode. I thought Nanahoshi and Rudy were brought there at two different times, Rudy when he was born and Nanahoshi when the event occoured (immediate reaction vs delayed) as it's been several years so the things she has noticed about her ageing would still be applicable. I'm not sure if I missed something or the show just did a poor job explaining .

They were brought here at the same time, but there was a delay in them actually coming into fruition. Rudeus was first, then 10 yrs later Nanahoshi came through the mana disaster. You probably missed it because the anime wanted us to figure it out since they show them both being brought to this world at the same time. Now the question that was brought up but not answered was, "why was there a delay?"

I think that would be around the time Rudy arrived to teach Eris. I would give spoilers/my thoughts as to what finally pushed the Incident to occur, but I think I'll let the the anime/your thoughts come to that conclusion :)

I thought Silent's choice to word what she was saying as "it's my fault" to Sylphie was really dumb...but also possibly a sign of her Japanese speaking patterns leaking into what is, I am sure, a non-Japanese linguistic style. That kind of miscommunication seems to happen a lot in anime, when the wording required to construct it is _extremely_ awkward in American English. I doubt it's awkward in the round-about speech patterns of Japanese. That Sylphie would leap to accepting her statement as a face-value admission of actual guilt-via-intentional-action makes particular sense if the language of Asura is not nearly so round-about as Japanese is.

This was an impressive episode in a context of how much we get to know and still get little to no answear at all. I'm not talking about it in a bad way, but quite opposite. The world building and answears, which lead to more questions are so engaging. Nanahoshi is a tragic character for me, but not to the extent she portray herself to be. We don't know if time is going the same way in both worlds, so probably her journey could be like a long dream. Taking that in consideration she could make the most of her situation, while looking for a way back to Earth. I know it is easily said than done, cause I would probably in worse part of the spectrum, if I were in her shoes. Her disadvantage is total lack of mana, but her not aging is big plus, cause her actions are less restricted in that aspect. To her credit I could say she make it pretty big with bad hand she was dealt. She had amazing luck meeting Orsted, but still her wits were fully used. Troupe of otherworldly knowledge is overused, but here we have clever way of making a good ways out of it. She didn't just get some money, but established big chain of connections like a good entrepreneur.

I'm still rather baffled by the anime. Nanahoshi put on her magic rings expecting a violent reaction to what she was about to say to Fitz Says it. And then apologizes and mentions that she could have worded it better. Is there missing context here or is the scene really that dumb and pointless? She could have bypassed the whole thing by wording it better in the first place. Its easy. Instead of "I caused the incident" "The person that summoned me caused the incident." Or "my summoning to this world caused the incident"

That was bizarre information! Everything in this world contains Mana and she can't use it? How was she then transported if we need Mana to activate the magic and reconstruct her body into this world. And why is there a time lag of more than 10 years. This is just my theory and we have two worlds with different time speeds, a world where Japan runs faster but her body ages slower in this world by the time difference factor. Which would mean that even if she manages to return to her world, none of her friends are alive anymore because more than 70 years have passed in her original world! Something that was very disturbing to me, at least in the anime, is that she constantly crossed her legs as if she wanted to seduce him! Even her approach is too lofty considering the real power she herself has in this world. Knowledge is only valuable when you want to make life easier, and to preserve your life you need more when it is threatened. If Rudius wanted to kill her, he would just collapse the tower on her and she wouldn't survive.

The most significant point of the teleportation is that it must have taken an enormous amount of mana. As stated, similar to the floating castle and at an unprecedented scale. Where did that mana come from? There must be only a handful of people who would be capable of amassing that much mana, so people like the Dragon God should have a rather small list of suspects. I find it weird that no one tries to narrow down on possible culprits...

It could be Rudeus himself that's at least partially responsible for supplying the mana because remember that at that exact moment, Rudeus used his strongest spell at the time to show off to Eris and Ghislaine. That's the moment that it happened.

Certainly his mana must have triggered it, but the spell itself had been forming for a while. That floating object had drawn the attention of multiple people. Someone else must have already been pumping in insane amounts of mana over time into it

Yeah that floating object had been collecting mana over a period of time. So while it was collecting mana from other sources as well, Rudeus was likely the biggest contributer simply because he has more mana than anyone else in the world. As had been stated on numerous occasions, he has more mana than the Demon God Laplace.
