This is some BULLSHIT. As a straight dude who originally got forced into watching Drag Race with my girl and ended up actually loving it, I can't belive people are STILL not welcoming Ru and all his work. The guy is an amazing, heart warming person who kicks down doors for others who need it. Ru should be as mainstream as they come, he is in my eyes anyway :) He made me see drag in a whole new light, he changed how I think and made me more accepting, his voice needs to be heard.

Would they prefer to hear Ellen and Ru actually seriously discussing drag, or would they want jokes about it? .....Well, we know Mama Ru wouldn't go on just to get joked about. And, like you said. She's never been on, has she? So, I guess we know why.

Because Ellen's show appeals to a broader and often more conservative audience. But she's doing just as much good for America as a popular gay celebrity as RuPaul has, just in different ways. Every gay celebrity represents the community in their own individual way.

***** Yeah but like, Ellen has all kinds of weird shit on her show. Celebrity guests from every genre imaginable, little kids doing random stuff, you name it. There's literally no chance that she only has guests who specifically work for things that are her own "interests" when she's had such a hugely wide variety of guests. No one likes EVERY genre of television and movie... that's the definition of "favorites" and "interests". Everything can't be your favorite.

I dont really want drag race to go mainstream.. I feel like the more mainstream something is, the more people knock it down. Things like justin beiber, one direction, and some tv shows on mtv etc are so mainstream that people get tired off seeing them and slowly begin to dislike them. Drag race is a postitive place for people that I see as family to feel like themselves. I feel like going mainstream would destroy that somewhat

@KILLxxWITCH8 жыл бұрын
You make an excellent point, Holly. I agree with you 100%! I also feel that people will turn drag queens into the newest marketing scheme and try to profit off the artistry of the craft of drag. I can see networks like TLC grasping on to it, and exploiting talented queens for their own profit. Drag is an art, and must be treated as such. Sometimes the best art is found underground, where it will be protected.

@TeddieSage19878 жыл бұрын
+Antonio Kinsey Yeah, but that doesn't mean people "accept" drag queens that much. Ru has plenty of supporters such as myself, but let's not forget hardcore zealots who keep making LGBTs' lives a true nightmare. Those people are probably the ones who make him feel like he'll never be "mainstream" and accepted by "everyone". There are also plenty of trans women who feel insulted by cross dressers and drag queens, which adds a whole new layer of problematic situations to the drag community. So yeah, the art of drag, while strongly appreciated, is also hated by many.

Drag race IS mainstream in the sense it is a household name and everybody who is in touch with pop culture is likely to have heard of it- but what RuPaul is trying to say is that HE will never be fully mainstream as LGBT community still is not the norm.. And when it does become normal and completely accepted only then will drag race become truly mainstream

He's too busy mentoring others to have time to do his own makeup. Besides when one is as fabulous as Mama RU you can pay some one to do it for you. When first taking one the persona of RuPaul he probably did all his own makeup and made all his costumes. Its hard to clothe a man that tall in women's clothing. Just saying...maybe that's why the contestants on the show have to make their costumes? I've never actually seen the show I refuse to pay a cable company to be entertained, when the internet does it for a fraction of the price.

@AlottaBoulchit8 жыл бұрын
+Joey C Its not that she would never invite him but from the way Ru says it implies that she has asked for RuPaul the Queen to come on but only if she can make fun at Ru's expense. While I do hope that's not the case with these two... if it is then I'm pretty disappointed in Ellen. I should have been more clear in my original post. ^_^ Also I agree they need more real programming on LOGO. An HD channel option wouldn't hurt either yikes. lol

I've always loved art and fashion, I love pageants and competition shows. when I turned the channel I remember seeing these gorgeous girls modeling and I thought "wow gorgeous!" and started watching it( It was Rupaul's Drag Race Season 3) there was Raja,Carmen Carrerra, Alexis Mateo, Mariah, and my fave miss Yara Sofia I was so impressed when I found out they were all guys because I grew up in a Christian household and my parents were pastors so I never knew much about drag but my dad never spoke ill about anybody so I never felt any certain way about gays or anything like that I've always just loved people no matter what.. any way my point is I've been hooked on this show since, have gone back and watch the past seasons and have seen every season since. I love how talented and creative and fabulous these ladies are I love getting to see the human side of them and learning more about the LGBT community in general! Drag is such a huge and influential part of the lgbt community, and Drag Race has not only brought so many in the lgbt community together but people from all walks of life and cultures are fans of the show and have reached a new level of understanding and respect for lgbt people. With all the anti-bullying of gay youth speeches and preaching of acceptance Ellen does on her show, it surprises me that RuPaul could only be on Ellen, who's a lesbian herself that's had her own struggles with people and Hollywood not accepting her, if he were MADE FUN OF. Hypocrite! I've lost a few levels of respect for her. The fact that she refuses to acknowledge RuPaul and all the positivity and success that has come from his show speaks volumes.

I really thought I understood US TV, but I guess I don't; if Ru was in the UK he'd be on Primetime of any or all of our main channels; he could do family stuff or late night TV, whatever he wanted, US TV people really can be big douche bags! Although you could say it makes it more fun that he's not on mainstream TV, so it's still OK I suppose ;-)

+MegaSayitlikeitis Ikr years ago Ellen was a guest on Ru's Vh1 talk show, Ru even filmed one those funny little intro bits Ellen used for her sitcom (the first one) an yet Ru has never been invited to be a guest on Ellen's show. So weird an I am a huge Ellen fan too, and of RuPaul. Oh well, Ellen doesn't owe Ru anything but it'd be pretty cool to see him an Ellen chat but whatevs. I feel like now that its Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show he'd have Ru on, cuz Jimmy seems like so much more of an open-minded kind of guy than Leno (not saying that Leno isn't but uknowhatImean)

It's so eye-opening for me because I'm a 45 year old straight mother of 2 kids. And I'm a welder in a shipyard full of men, and even though I'm heterosexual I get looked down on due to my gender. I'm constantly defending my sexuality from narrow minded people. I started talking to the women in my industry who were lesbian...just to get another perspective on life and found that I have been missing out on a fantastic, educated and beautiful group of people. And felt a bit of shame for not having a more open heart and mind all these years. Although I'm still straight...I have a diverse group of friends now and have a deep respect for the gay community in general. And to top it off, Ru Pauls Drag Race is one of my favorite shows.

Drag Race and Rupaul as a brand and personality are well integrated into the mainstream. There's nothing subversive or niche about either anymore. Not sure who Rupaul thinks she's kidding.
