Here's a question I've had for a little while, and this seems like the perfect place to ask it. Do you think that Argyus's betrayal severely damaged the Senate Guard's reputation, to the point that senators preferred to have their security detail consist of Shock Troopers rather than the Senate Commandos? We see this when Padme goes to Scipio accompanied by Shock Troopers. This downturn could also further facilitate Palpatine's introduction of the Red Guard.

I’ll bet that Argyus’ betrayal was swept under the rug to save face, not only would a blow to the reputation of the senate guard be bad for the senators themselves, but it would expose the republic as impotent and corrupt. It would damage the morale of Republic citizens to see so plainly how the “best of the best” were just preppy decorations and could possibly lead to more secession movements.

I think the only time i see the senate guard do well was when Ashoka was escaping mandalore with lux. They were happy to protect her and fight off the droids. Thats the only time they don’t fight anyone on the most wanted list in TCW. Can’t blame them for losing to top of the line bounty hunters. Jedi and clones struggle to fight/capture them as well.

Even though they served as blaster fodder for most of the show, you gotta appreciate their armor design. Some of the coolest in the Star War universe in my opinion. I assume they were based off of the Praetorian guards of Rome, as they are notoriously portrayed as inept and traitors, killing emperors on numerous occasions.

I don't think they're bad, I just think they suffer from a common injustice in the series called "We need to think of an artificial way to keep the plot moving" syndrome. They fail because the plot needs them to fail. It's a bit like unnamed clones - If two unnamed clones are guarding something, it's practically a guarantee that they'll be wildly incompetent and end up dying. This show as a whole just has a tendency of making people too incompetent to win rather than coming up with witty, tactical ways for the enemy to overcome the challenge. Almost every villain suffers from it, sometimes the heroes suffer from it.

Pragmatically, as soon as the Clone Wars started, the Senate guard should have been _replaced with Clone troopers._ [Maybe even some veterans that had lost limbs and had cybernetic leg replacements as commanders, since they probably couldn't run as fast as regular clones out in the field]. And even a few junior Jedi as first assignments, they can still Force control minds and sense danger. Besides they will get a chance to hang with Clones and understand them before having to work with Clones on the battlefield, where it's too busy to learn how they think - getting on well with Clones is a skill, just like gaining familiarity with a person. And the Clones can help explain the basics of their military doctrine, so the Jedi won't accidentally get a bunch killed out in the field on their first few missions. On a side note, what did the Senate guard do when Order 66 came down?

agreed, in general i think that every republic planet should have built up there own military cause in the clone wars as you have said many times before they where massively outnumbered. it would have been useful if the republic planets had there own defense forces and didn't 100% rely on the clones to come and rescue them or defended them. in general the war would have ended a lot sooner if the republic planets had defense forces this would have never happened. still the clones are amazing and I have teared up every time i see one in season 7 so far

Before the Clone wars (in legends though it was cannon at the time those clone wars episodes were made) a Great majority of the experienced senete gaurd left with Tarkin along with an army of droids to try and take Zomona Zekot (a highly advanced bioship planet) and almost all were lost when the planet went into hyperspace (later conquered by the yuzanvong ). Thus there were only new initiates and recruits hired hastily just prior to the outset of the Clone wars explaining why they were disloyal and incompetent. It's also what Palpatine used to allow him to set up the Red Gaurd based off the Sungaurd thus explaining how they disappear by the time of the empire. I'm so upset. Because Senate guards were cool in my opinion and I liked them. But when I was a kid and watched the episode I felt so bad for them. I almost cried because I felt bad how they were just slaughtered.

I believe those Senate guards with a broom on the helmet and a cape 0:01 were much more elite than the senate commandos 0:45 . They commandos should be the senate equivalent of clone troopers.

The simple reason they weren’t prepared because thought that an attack could not happen and it did, Cad Bane used fear and that caused everyone to go into panic mode and not beef up the senate’s defences.

I agree, the Senate Guard were pretty useless in The Clone Wars, but the only time they weren't useless was when Ahsoka and Lux were being pursued by Commando Droids and the Senate Guard covered their escape while the two of them escaped Mandalore.

So let me get this straight. The GAR has millions of the most battle-hardened, well trained and equipped soldiers in the galaxy. They are genetically bred to fight and kill in combat, and do so with nigh impossible effectiveness. Yet the Senate Building, the most important building in the entire Republic, is guarded by overfunded pushover militiamen. Why, though?

My question is: What did the Senate Guard do during Order 66? The Republic was disbanded and reformed into The Empire. Since the Jedi Temple Guards joined forces with the Jedi and fought the clones, what did the Senate Guards do?

Considering the only time we actually see them fight, it happens to be against ridiculously powerful bounty hunters that even carve through clones, and even had to face Asajj Ventress, I wouldn’t expect much. I personally love the Senate Commandos, I just wish we saw them face less OPAF opponents

There are so many different things that had they been even slightly different they whole series would be different That’s what made Star Wars movies made by Lucas so cool and what Disney mainly lacks as well as the ability to understand that not all major characters have to be force sensitive or be related to a force sensitive

Snooshy 16 clones were trained all their life, senate commandos were trained for 4 weeks. Not even army grunts on our earth get that little training.

The Senate guards we see protecting Ashoka and Lux as they fled Mandalore was probably the best example of them being useful. Their uniform in that episode (which was a combination of the honor guard and the senate commando uniforms) are the best in my opinion. The helmet is probably super light, and the cape could be somewhat helpful.

I like how the senate guards pauldron actually absorbed a shot in the senate hostage crisis this happened very rarely in the clone wars but it was cool when it did bc it showed the armor of senate guards and clones to be somewhat useful when most times the blasters would rip through just about anything in the films

Glorified lampshades, from the perspective of the show, sure. But the Jedi were the heroes of the story, so they had to save the day, which means security forces have to fail. Just the way things go. I'm sure they were better at their job in many circumstances we will just never see.
