I was waiting for you take on Checo's renewal! I'm extremely happy about it but I did see it coming not gonna lie. Red Bull needs stability now and he is the ideal driver to bring that to the team. Also I think Max and Checo despite their struggles as teammates (Brazil 2022 war flashbacks) they have learned how to build dialogue before an issue goes out of control, like in Austria 2023. That took time, is not perfect but it's better that whatever would happen if they brought someone new. Very excited to see them break the longest time being teammates record and hopefully the RB 1-2 record set by Mark and Seb. Again, amazing video as always Law! I also loved your take on the whole Esteban situation. The ladder is laddering a lot lately!

So well put! Checo wouldn’t get that RB seat if he didn’t have all the things you mentioned going on for him. Any of those miss and he’s gone. But he IS a good driver, he is a team player, he has major sponsors, and has basically one half of the global hemisphere cheering him on. I think that makes it a well deserved spot. Are there better drivers? Sure but they miss on the other things. And let’s be honest, like Albon mentioned in an interview, the RB car is set up in the way Max likes. If it was set up that Checo would like, he might be even closer to Max. And that can be said for any driver.
@Redlingstein

The set up CHOSES THE DRIVER HIMSELF!!! The car design is as the TEAM designs is. Set up is individual by all drivers differently. But the RBR car is always POINTY and that’s the fastest a car can be…. It’s up to the driver to ADAPT. MAX ADAPTS EASIER THAN CHECO. Its that simple.

Checo actually holds a positive record: he's the first and only driver to win a race after being last on the first lap. He was also the first driver to win a race with two separate teams in the hybrid era (there are only two drivers who accomplished that: the second was Ricciardo). His third record is more unfortunate: most race starts before his first win (191). Like winning a race, setting a "good" F1 record is a solid accomplishment.

Checo gets a lot of static but his record doesn't warrant it. He's finished the last 10 seasons in the top 10 and, since 2020, 2x 4ths, a 3rd, and a 2nd. He's a race winner, team player, and pretty decent on race day. He's even gone last to first. He struggles at times with qualifying, but so do a lot of drivers. He does great when the car fits his driving style, but struggles when RB develops the car away from him. He and Max have different styles. I think Checo is a genuinely good driver and doesn't deserve a lot of the backlash he gets.

Yeh... I wondered if Bottas would have been a bit closer to Hamilton if the team had shown a little faith. Here's hoping Sergio rewards RB's faith in 'him' by being more consistently close to Max... ...I know many don't rate Perez, but I'll stick by my assessment that he's been doing better than just about anybody else would in a team built around Max, in a car built for Max - a driver who is famously good at coping with difficult machinery if doing so can release a little more lap time. Oh, and any team that has Joss associated with it is a team I absolutely wouldn't have anything to do with, so well done Perez for that.

I’m glad to hear you say you’re trying to be more fair towards drivers and see things from a different perspective, there’s been a few times where I had to quit watching a vid of yours cause you were (imo) unfairly dunking on a driver. I wish a lot more people would try this cause it seems like there’s a handful of drivers who are very unjustly criticized for their character and yt pundits don’t help when they don’t learn more about a driver and / or think about things from a different viewpoint.

I’m a fan from Mexico, obviously a Checo fan. I know he is not at the level of the Ferrari or McLaren drivers. He has had moments of glory and moments where his value to the team has been key. But overall as fan of the sport it’s good to have competition for at least the 2 place in the drivers and the constructors. So even in that point of view that extension is good

Another thing I like to think now after this news is that it explains why the Fernando Alonso-Red Bull pairing wasn’t even entertained. This fact, ie that Checo was basically predetermined to stay, makes me feel better with Alonso’s decision to stay at AM, but I still think he should had have considered other teams, like Mercedes for example.

Law I understand you wanting to try a more balance approach, but I think the reality is that Checo is simply not at the level to have that seat on merit, is unfortunate to see him turn into basically a pay driver.
@zlm001
@zlm001 3 ай бұрын
If we’re seriously talking about solid, championship level driver in Sainz having to take a seat at Williams then we have a major problem and it’s not that there are so many super talented drivers competing for the same seats. Instead, we have mediocre drivers that are just barely talented enough to keep their seats as long as they bring in tens of millions of dollars. I like Perez, but personally I feel like giving him two extra years is indirectly stealing two years of development from any of the young drivers trying to break into F1. The same goes for Ricciardo. If we got rid of them then their seats could be filled by more talented drivers and younger drivers could get a chance to see if they can learn to deliver top notch performances. We already know Perez is weak and inconsistent now during more race weekends than not. Same for Ricciardo. Without them bringing in literally tens of millions of dollars, which is a ton of money, they would almost certainly get the boot. Neither of them are entertaining to watch anymore. How can a young driver that has the potential charisma and marketing chops develop sponsorships if they’re not driving? I’d rather see even a second, third, or fourth place young driver from regions that are important markets try to develop even if we’re ignoring absolute top notch challenge. At least it would be a bit more exciting.

Yeah in the West checo is super popular, Mexico, USA , and most of South America are all big Perez supporters, his brand sales in mexico alone is insane, you see it in pre and post race shows when they do overhead shots and u get to see mexico city the Redbull shirts and banners are everywhere, there is not a country that has such a high % of people supporting one driver. and i think the Redbull company have noticed this Helmet Marko has been surprisingly supportive of Perez this year, no comments and just saying posetive stuff and i think that ties to the parent company being very much happy with Checo and what he does for thier bottom line and his results coupled with max nets them 1-2 and both throphys so why would they want to change drivers? no other option will benefit the Redbull Company only the Racing part.

Amazing video as always, I love how nuanced and well researched your videos are. Something I'd be curious to hear your opinion on is the idea of Yuki going to Alpine. With him and Pierre that would give them the opposite of the French Civil War they just broke up there, Yuki's popular which would benefit Alpine on the pr side of things, he's obviously improved from both a driving and temper side... Do you think that could be a realistic option?

And forgetting that thouse are humans, plus the hate on the racing in f1 while the racing never changed, lets go back and watch a race at the nordschleife in the 70s etc. Plus the weird memory f1 fans have who always just can remember 2 races or that why they want. Like saying f1 races used to where better while pointing out 10 races in a span of 20 seasons. F1 fans in my opinion are crazy and off there mind
