The Indo-Scythians or the Shaka became a dominant power at the start of the First Century BC in India. They were responsible for destroying the Indo-Greeks. In this video, I talk about the history of the Shakas and how they ended up ruling a significant portion of India.

Sakas were from Turkestan-Tajikistan area from where they attacked Kabul(Baktriya) and Peshawar(Gandhar) and ruled for some time until they were over thrown by Parthians. Parthians took control of these area and started an era of mixing of iranian religion Zoroastrian and Buddhism. This period is known as Indo greek. Sakas were displaced and later moved into india. They remained a mercenary tribe for iranian kings.

During the Saka period, did they intermix with the local populace? Idea for a future video - I would really like you to enlighten us about the ancient Indian geography. Well, I'd say Indonesia and many South east asian country's were colonized by South Indian kings and Buddhist missionaries from there. It has no relation with north Indian kingdoms or kings. :) It's facts, because of linguistic similarity in between South east asian langauges and South Indian/Sri Lankan language. But probably this knowledge related to 'Sakas' which were predominant as a group in northern part of South Asia, reached through South Indian kings and southern Buddhists missionaries, who reached there.

Dhanyavaad, Jay Vardhan Singh Jee ! Does the ancient period of Indian History end in 1192 ? Babur, too, invaded India, after he was evicted from Samarkand, right ? Looks like, that is often the reason for migrations and invasions.

When the Ancient period ends, is matter of great debate. Some scholars think that with the death of Harsha the ancient period came to an end. Some believe that it was with the Arab invasion, some say it was with the Battle of Tarain, some say it was with the fall of the Kakatiyas of Warangal. About your second, yes, migration of tribes is most important and common reasons for many invasions.

If I am not wrong, this is a chapter in 12th NCERT. I think you should ignore this claim. I have just completed my MA in History, and one of the most important principles that I have learned is that you don't have to agree with every historical interpretation. You have to use your judgment while reading these interpretations. And one of the best ways to do this is to ask yourself whether what you are reading is a fact or an opinion. If it is an opinion, then it can be questioned. Now about the role of Brahmins concerning the Caste system. If anybody claims that only Brahmins benefitted from the Caste system, then they don't know what they are talking about. The Emergence of the Caste system was due to multiple factors, and if somebody claims that it was solely due to Brahmins, he doesn't know how social sciences work. Even historians like Romila Thapar argue that the Emergence of the Caste system resulted from economic and social factors where the role of Brahmins was minuscule.

The Flower Ornament Sutra or AvatamSAKA Sutra is a large Sutra in Mahayana Buddhism. The material first written in Sanskrit was collected by the Saka and translated into Saka, who adopted the Brahmi script. I am very curious to learn if the Saka text or fragments of this giant Sutra exist. It was translated into English by Thomas Cleary who mentioned the Saka and the use of their collected texts as the version used by the Chinese for their translation. The book is about 1600 pages and it is very beautiful filled with great poetry. The Saka language may thus possess a literary 'monument'...

You can see the sources, which I have used for this video in the description. The sources which I have used are specific to this period and written by scholars who specialize in this period, so I believe they are more credible. You can also look at Upinder Singh's A History of Ancient and Early Medieval India (pg 375), here also Maeues is identified as a Shaka ruler.

Sakas or Western Kshatrapa kings from their coins have no resemblance to Central Asian in either looks or continued culture from Central Asia. Are these Western Kshatrapa really Central Asian Saka? Ili valley Sakas seems to have moved in to what is Ladakh Baltistan region. We still see some resemblance in the present day people. The Syr Darya saka’s headdress looks very much like modern Sikh’s childs turban. So although we do not see resemblance of central asian features in modern Punjabis the headdress might be inspired .

Xiongnus, a mixed population, proto-hunnic, was in conflict with the first chinese imperial dynasties when they submitted the yuezhis and later attacked them, pushing them till the Balkash Lake, current Kazakhstan. Jatts also have mixture that is why they are thought to be 'Indo-Scythians' rather than just Scythians. Saka tribes in the west would have had admixture with Macedonians, Italians, Slavs/Rus people etc. Isn't Osetia considered Saka as well? I do get your point though - It is possible that Rajputs are descended from Saka tribes who migrated to interior of India a little earlier than later Saka tribes who became Jatts. That is why the last names so often are shared (Senger, Chauhan, etc.) and why sometimes Jatt and to a lesser extent Rajput gotras are not aligned to traditional Vedic ones which are based on the Rishis.

Sakastan is actually turkmenstan not afghanstan. They conquered afghanstan later as turkmen yürük (nomad) people also who are related to sumerians (sakirs). On the other hand, indogreeks are relative of persian and grecoroman people who came from macedonia and conquered southwest asia together with persians. Yuezhi are northern central asian, they are located in north of tajikstan. I think they were tajiks related to indogreeks or persians of west asia.
