For men, I think it is extremely important for them to put all the cards on the table for the potential girlfriend to see so she can have that security. So when you ask someone to date you, you can show them that you are not just trying to get with them for fun and that you'll ditch them when it stops being fun because that's the goal. You need to basically show them "I like you a lot, and I want to have an intimate relationship with you. If all goes well, the end product would be a _permanent_ relationship. I'm committed to that if things go well with us, I'm not just messing around with you." I'm not a woman, but I think women like to know what's on the table and where the boundaries are upfront so they secure about it. No tricks.

How often does that actually happen though? There has to be a romantic vibe otherwise you'll end up just being friends. Of course there is a friendship dynamic to a relationship but there has to be more to it.

This really helped me right now. A week ago, my ex broke up with me, and it's been hard. We had decided that we wanted marriage WAS going to be the destination, and then he changed his mind at some point. Never once did he talk to me about it and how his feelings had changed. So that really hurts. Still, your video really encouraged me to find myself in the Lord, and gave me ideas on how to date the right way when I'm ready to get back into that. Thank you so much. You two are incredible.

I definitely needed to hear this. I have been struggling lately with dating. I'm one of those girls that's in her early 20's that has NEVER dated out of fear of getting it wrong and out of wanting the first guy I date to be "the one." Dating is a scary world in my eyes, but I know God is calling me to step out on the waters here soon. This video helped me tremendously.

My wife and I (married june 1st 2013 so almost 8 months) also run the college and career ministry so I really appreciate all your videos. I think it's really close minded to not allow yourself to date without the intention of marriage. You learn from your mistakes and you grow as a person from your experiences, and if limit your experiences on purpose, you're only hurting yourself. This is not to say the people who only have one relationship that ends up being successful are bad people, but they never experienced a lot of what goes on in a relationship that doesn't work. You date to find out what you like and who you are as a person. I'm in a relationship right now that I could see going to marriage, and I hope that it does, but I didn't limit myself hoping that I would find the 'one,' she just happened to appear in my life and I don't plan on letting her go.
@adinadenisa41424 жыл бұрын
I don't agree with you. A lover is someone that is there for you, supports you, loves you and cares about you. If you date with the mindset that "It's just an experience for now.", that means you don't see a future with them. Experiences are alright, but I want to experience things in other domains, and when things go wrong, at least I know someone will always be by my side, and they're not an "experience" too. It's a little bit offensive for the ones that never had a lover and are trying to find the right person. That's just my opinion though, and it's important to date someone with a similar view of life as you.

Terrell Harris It is not that I do not believe that God will not or cannot meet my desires. It is a question of how to accept and deal with what you desire not being in God's will for your life. We all have desires and wants, that does not mean that they fit into what God wants for us.

In Romans I believe, Paul touches on this subject. (Or Peter or something...I will find the exact reference and repost if I remember) This guy (paul or peter again, not sure) states that it is very hard to remain single and that if you can do it props to you. He says that it is good to remain celibate (spelling?) and that if you do keep in mind that you will be tempted your entire life. Again I am just paraphrasing but I will do my best re-post what the Bible says on this topic.

I just discovered you guys and i just want to Thank you for what you are doing in the name of Jesus. Whats cool is that I now live in the Pacific northwest which strangely was said in one of the first videos I watched. Im not on any social media and this is pretty much as far as I want to go when it comes to the internet. I would definitely like to share my testimony a little more but before that I hope that God and He will Bless you both in all ways as possible because theres not many that are doing what you're doing. And also that your marriage and future generations prosper in the name of Jesus.. Since i could remember I just knew this calling to be a servant my whole life was much more than what was already put in my way to keep me from seeing my divine purpose, unfortunately it had to happen when I lost my mother but I truly believe that as a true believer, we live for others just how Jesus did. In about a month now ima be going off to a Bible school and I have to say that it was not part of the plan to be where im at today in my life(at least in my own mind). You guys are inspiring and are inspiring others like myself to looking forward into Glorifying God even more in my walk Him. All Praise and Honor be to God.
@dannyokezie765611 жыл бұрын
I completely and totally agree with you guys. I'm a 16year old girl and I discovered all this for myself last year. I have "dated" some guys before, but those relationships were simply pointless, I was too young to even date. I didn't even know what i was doing, all I knew was that I enjoyed being the centre of someone's attention. Many, MANY teens now do the same and they don't realize it. I decided last year that I'm still growing, not only physically, but emotionally and mentally. I'm still discovering who I am, and I think it is ABSOLUTELY important that an individual gets to know and understand him/herself before dating. So I've decided to not date anyone till I know who I am and I'm comfortable and confident with the person I am, before I date anyone again. Because really, it makes no sense dating now. I'm definitely not planning on getting married soon, so it's just going to be break up after break up, and heart ache after heart ache. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Really appreciate this video. I just got out of a five and a half year relationship with my boyfriend, and we grew so much in the Lord together, we are both 22 and he has been in bible college and Im also in school. Recently he feels as though the Lord is leading him to a life in missions oversees and not really sure if he wants a family. I on the other hand want to be married and a family, and we were planning on marrying each other and headed in that direction. It is pretty crazy how much his heart has changed and how hard this break up has been. I know the Lord is working through this for our good, but its incredibly hard to see and accept and try to maintain joy. I loved how Alyssa was talking about it not being wasted or in vain. It was a good break up, and I am so excited for him and what God is calling him to do, but so much time and love went into our relationship as well as future planning. We both have a passion for Gods kingdom so its really hard to understand. Any advice on how to deal with a break up with a great person??

Good video and good advice. That quote at the beginning was great! While attending a Christian college we were assigned to read "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" by Joshua Harris. I was very frustrated while reading it. I felt like it was extremely detrimental for Christians, especially girls, to read. During high school I dated a guy and it definitely wasn't serious and we didn't have any intent to get married. I had brought all of my struggles and brokenness to God regarding my past relationships and knew that I had 100% been forgiven. Then while reading this book in college Joshua Harris talks about your wedding night and how if you date someone and breakup that person will have a portion of your heart forever and you won't be able to give your full heart to your husband. Each person you date takes a part of you with them. That's not how forgiveness works. If it was that way we would all be screwed. Thank goodness for Jesus! I knew while reading the book that I didn't agree with a lot of what was written. But it made me feel scared and worried for my Christian friends that hadn't been in relationships and one day, if the Lord wills, they would be. I know that guarding your heart is important but that doesn't mean running the opposite direction of someone of the opposite sex or anyone you have an attraction to. After dating (not courting) my my husband before we were married I can say we were able to both grow, in our relationship and together in Christ, just fine and were able to forgive ourselves and each other for past failures. After I heard the words "Joshua Harris" I felt the need to share my view on his book. Anyway. I really did love your video and I thought you gave great advice.

what is the difference! can explain??
@DavidLoveJanet10 жыл бұрын
Hey tidalwave71 when you look at all the love stories in the bible that mention marriage, not when one cheats or one sleeps with prostitute, there were no dating phase. There was no need to break up and then say ok we will not be together . They all saw Gods will for each other,pursued each other and married. What is Dating? Dating is engaging with the opposite or same sex(homosexuality=sin) without an expected end. You don't know if you'll marry but you are just hanging out with emotional and many other benefits, as far as one chooses to go. Spends a ton of time alone which presents a ton of temptations Family most times isn't as involved Foreplay, not going all the way, going all the way, "test driving each other" No clear purpose-- just a lot of conditional dating & confusion on "where is this relationship going??!) Plays house. Calls each other wifey & hubby & does husband & wife like things but has no commitment There's still a option to date others, ya'll aren't totally sold & still "trying each other out" So what is courting? How can it be explained and done in the 21st century? Takes the position that the two people have no physical contact at all (no touching, no hand-holding, no kissing) until marriage. Many in a courtship relationship will not spend any time together unless family members, preferably parents, are present at all times. Courting couples state up front that their intentions are to see if the other person is a suitable potential marriage partner. Courtship allows for the two people to truly get to know each other in a more platonic setting without the pressures of physical intimacy or emotions clouding their view. More on my blog: janetasongonuga.blogspot.com/2013/08/lukewarm-christians-yes-i-love-him-but.html Hope this helps

Because you can't date when you both want to just have fun because that would be "selfish"
@everettlogan24339 жыл бұрын
***** That last part is really all that needs to be said, I just don't feel like marriage is the greatest thing I'll accomplish in life. So putting it in such high regards seems absurd to me. Similar to if I were to say "If you eat meat without the intention to workout after words, you're just wasting the protein that someone else could've used."

Marriage is a calling not everyone is called to. But dating is pointless if not intending to get married. Just be friends and have fun.

I have recently discovered your channel and subscribed. Awesome quote in beginning, although I saw it as "dating" for years even after I got saved, later I referred to my wife and I as "courting" each other in the beginning, even before marriage was on the table. Perhaps this seems really "old school" or as an argument of semantics but, for me it helped to take getting involved with a girl more seriously and distinguish between my selfish intentions, and God's will for my life. I hope this is helpful and helps others, as well. God bless you, bro!

man i used to be a big fan of this guy but hes seldom videos and never answering questions people want to know put me off him.. still a good guy but not exactly the person he tries to portray

Why not just ask your pastor? Jeff isn't the only knowledgeable christian in this world. He's just one guy with hundreds of thousands of viewers/subscribers. With that many people following him, his email is most likely flooded daily by the hundreds. I'd probably be overwhelmed by the amount of questions coming in if I were in his position.

ydnicydni ***** i dont actually have questions i have done my own research and my relationship with jesus is wonderful but instead of him uploading videos regarding his book or miscellaneous things it would be much more beneficial for people who actually do have questions to answer common problems.. hes initial videos and the reason he has a big following was due to him answering the common issues with christians, he has a great platform with so many viewers and i just dont think he realizes the position and power he has

Let's stop judging the work of others and think about doing some work ourselves. You found the questions weren't answered, DID YOU UPLOAD ANY VIDEO TO ANSWER THE UNANSWERED QUESTIONS? I am pretty sure NO! because if you did, then you wouldn't have so much spare time as to criticise. God bless

Hey guys! It's awesome how you two stand up for Godly values in 2014! It's so needed and encouraging for the rest of us. Getting more love out there is one of the most important things we can do. But, I hope you don't mind a little constructive criticism (Jeff specifically). I don't think the word "normal" quite does the job you want it to, as that word has different meanings for different parts of the world and different cultures. Who decides what is normal? I would have sticked with "hang out like firends"/"get to know each other" etc. You do say that too, which of course makes it clear what you mean, but then again, it says "this is what is normal in this context and nothing else". Just a few thoughts. Thanks again for the video!

Thanks so much for this video guys. I can tell you guys are genuine. Dating for me isn't the easiest thing to do so this really encouraged me. A question I have for you guys is: How do you deal with someone in your life who doesn't appreciate what you do for them? I have been praying so much for my friend and God keeps telling me to be patient with her and to keep showing her love, but it's so hard to do that for someone who isn't appreciate of it. Thanks again! God bless!

I have thought like this about dating since I was a young child not knowing why, I just thought maybe it was my dream to marry young. Some of my good friends back in high school told me I fall for someone I date to easy. Then I fell from grace and began dating for selfish reasons after reaching my adolescent years, now I know the reason why and can't take it back but I hope my future has a different path then my past. Thank you to the both of you, opening my eyes slowly but surly.

It's interesting how this video just came up. Yesterday my friend actually asked me if I was planning on marrying my boyfriend and I told her yes. My intention throughout my whole relationship is (like you guys said) the intention of getting married. I'm glad I'm not the only one who believes that that is true.

Thank you so much! This video has been a great encouragement to me, as I broke up with my boyfriend & great friend last month. We're both Christians and he was so kind about it, but as you all know, breakups aren't easy. Alyssa, completely agree with you when you said (good) relationships aren't in vain, and Jefferson when you mentioned growing closer to God as a result. Both were true in my case. And thanks for the encouragement about not being afraid to get in another relationship. It will be a bit, as I see there as things I need to do/learn first, but that was very encouraging and I needed that. Thanks guys! :)

mandsalive There's a song called "Blessings" by Laura Story, and the chorus says: "What if your blessings come through raindrops, What if your healing comes through tears, What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near, What if my greatest disappointments, Or the aching's of this life, Is the revealing for a greater thirst This world can't satisfy, What if trials of this life Are Your mercies in disguise." I know God's in control and has something and someone better in store for both myself and my friend - and I hope he finds a great woman!
