I have one in Virginia. It's easily my lowest maintenance tree and has zero pest and disease issues. It looks great and unique also.

In China, it’s called “Big/Large dates” as its size is bigger than normal dates. I thought they came from the same family. Both fresh and dried fruits taste just like dates. Thank you for sharing. Your video is so informative. I enjoy every single one.

Thanks so much for sharing! I wouldn't even know about jujube if it weren't for a gorgeous specimen on the Arizona State University campus that made it one of my favorite trees even if the blossoms didn't have such an out-of-this-world fragrance and the fruit wasn't so tasty. The original varieties come from China. Like the Tulipidendron ( Tulip tree) I believe it harkens back to before China and the Eastern US broke away from each other. The only remnant in the US occurs in Central Florida on a single ridge and with the massive extinction rate I'm not sure if it still exiztd. I believe there are no other members of the genus except those two populations. It's a valuable landscape tree that just shouldn't be as rare as it is.

I was excited to see you also have a GA-866 Jujube tree. This is the variety I have! I have had subpar harvests after about 6 years and I think you have answered my question. I thought about buying two but they are a bit hard to find here. I went to a great specialty fruit garden center and found the GA-866 but they were out of all their other varieties. I wonder if I just had a second GA-866 if it woudl help? My tree is going to the moon here in the Panhandle of Florida as you noted in Florida! I did find one negative. This tree sprouts, way away fromt eh tree. So i have to keep that under control.

I treat my Jujube fruit as Olives, I ferment them in water for about 8-days, and then I put them to Brine....Just Perfection! This is done just as the fruit begins to blush, no further, otherwise they are too pithy and best held for complete ripening and dehydration. They keep well, and I usually can use all my fruit in one year's time! Cakes and you name it!

I’m a long way from that kind of harvest. I ordered a sugar cane and GA866 back in July. 3-4’ bare roots that are scheduled to ship next week. I’m in zone 9b Louisiana. Any idea how many years before I see fruit?

I found two abandoned jujube trees in my city. I am regularly harvesting from them over the last couple of weeks, as I did last year. I wish I could tell which varieties they are, but they are about 25 feet tall and loaded with fruit even though we have had three months of drought here in Oklahoma. Do you know if they can be propagated by cuttings?
