I show gratitude a fair amount, but I totally agree that many of us (me included), don't show gratitude enough to those closest to us. Great video

Very impressed by what your son did. Yes, we need to show our appreciation for those that make an impact in our life. Even little things that may go unnoticed by others. 💖

Many people are actually embarrassed to tell others of their appreciation for them. Oakley shows how this is easier for a child in some ways. Maybe it's their innocent exuberance for life. Thanks, Mel, for the helpful information!

A little twist to the topic. We don’t compliment others enough either. A colleague and I talked about this issue recently. Both appreciation and validation are powerful in building relationships whether personal, familial, or professional.

Just did exactly what you recommended and sent a video to a group of incredible people that I met two weeks ago at a workshop and who are now at another workshop that I couldn't make it to. Even though I'm not there with them, sending the appreciation video made me feel like I was a part of their experience. It felt really amazing! Thanks Mel, you rock!

Mel, you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ! I do not think to say “thank you” in this way, but I SURE CAN, and sure do feel it about so many things, I simply fail to express it. On so many occasions I have received excellent service, or use excellent products, that I feel THAT strongly about, as well as feeling the ubiquitous “they” deserve to personally addressed, because they really do stand out, and truly go above and beyond. . . . and what better message to deliver, than to express one’s appreciation - I mean I already take so little for granted, why not give a personal “you” recognition for an identity of instinctive excellence in the fullest immersion of expression possible !? That’s a decision someone makes, and whether it’s a fluky one-off, or a habitual response, it is to be encouraged. Like, “Read my friggin’ sincerity !” I AM truly and sincerely thankful for anybody that actually gives a crap about another living thing (other thsn themselves.) Thanks agsin, Mel, but, no video right now - you wouldn’t care to see me like this. ;-p

Interesting topic, I was watching it just before going to sleep now. So my boyfriend told me good night and I replied with a video telling him actually what I tell him every time before going to sleep but he was very excited and super happy about this... Thank you for the video, I've never thought about the huge difference little things like this can make.

I absolutely loved this video! I am working on a coding project that requires I embed a video for one of the steps. Using my business idea as my muse, I came on KZbin to search for a video about the value of appreciation. I've heard your conversation many times in my daily compilation of motivational videos, so, I clicked through to hear what you had to say. The message was great and your son was so mature in his approach. His action was very sweet and genuine (kids are naturally this way, right!). Your point about turning the camera on ourselves helped to spark a new idea for my business! Thank you for posting this message, it made an unexpected impact on me

Generally speaking, in Italy when you show appreciation to somebody for something there are two options: in the first the person showing appreciation wants something from the other. In the second one, the person you are showing appreciation to use the situation to ask YOU a favour.

This is such a great video Mel! Very touching and also inspiring. I have always been the type of person that forgets to say thank you during an event and only then sends a thank you text of decent length to the person after returning home but i've always felt like those texts weren't enough to convey my appreciation for them and didn't know what to do abt it. So this is actually very interesting to me! Such a great idea! I'm a little camera shy, but I'll try it out the next time i'm trying to thank someone through my phone!
