In this video I will take apart the failed Nissan radiator fan assembly. I will show you what caused the failure of these fans. This problem is common with Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. The repair is also very expensive if you have the dealer perform the work. They typically charge $1200 for this repair. You can do this repair yourself for around $180. For the full how-to video, check out the link below

I just finished replacing the fan assembly on my 2016 Pathfinder, after the dreaded motor wobble was making the whole vehicle shudder. I went with the ~$220 aftermarket option that had the best reviews on Amazon, it came faster than expected and the install wasn't too terrible. I appreciate this tear down, and having a better understanding of why it happened in the first place!

Thanks for the nice video. I was able to service the DC motor by replacing the defective bearing. It is very simple compared to the hard work of taking the fans out! Just press the bearing out with any bearing removal device and it will come off with the washer. Put the replacement bearing back and the supporting washer. Then you need to reapply the notches with a nail/hammer to secure the washer. It cost me only $6 for the bearing and of course my time.

in my case pressing out the bearing lead to damage the metal finger so it was matter of days after installment in the car and the fan back again with wiggling i uninstalled it for the second time replaced the popped out bearing with new one , i put some super glue surround the bearing and the hosing ... guess what !! its wiggling again 😭😭😭😭

Where the first two official Nissan replacement parts? I have to wonder if you get the official replacement part from the dealer, is t still as crappy as the original. You would have thought they address this design defect by now.

Yes agree with you it is common issue in nissan pathfinder r52 and infiniti QX60. For fixing this issue you have multiple options: 1- Replace it with original fan and this will cost around 530$ 2- Replace fans with aftermarket and this cost you around 280$ 3- Replace the motor only with aftermarket motor. 4- Replace it with original Nissan motor I recommend option 3&4, depend on what you can get in the market. Finally, I found that motor of Nissan sunny /Almeria can fit to pathfinder and price wise it's cheaper cost around 60$.

One fan bearing was going bad, but it was on average 40f outside and figured i'll just unplug it and order a new assembly that would come in a few days. Figured it should last a few days, not even! lol.. after 2 days the "good" fan was even worse at the point it you could feel the vibration on the steering wheel and i stopped driving it. Truck was only down for 2 days, but its wild they died days within each other. Granted having only one running will work it harder. I chose to get a quality updated revision of the fan assembly without the module, quieter and improved bearings for under $100. Have some buddies with the same Nissan fan assembly, good to know i can help them out.

Nissan's CVT transmission is also ridden with problem. A friend told me he heard his local dealer mechanic say they replace twenty or so trans every week on cars and that Nissan has no plan to research and fix the issue because most of their R&D is now devoted to electric cars. Anyways he changes his trans oil regularly as a prophylactic measure.
@GrifFungin
@GrifFungin 2 жыл бұрын
There is a TON of hearsay and speculation in your comment, but the very last sentence is right on point. The JATCO CVT transmissions used by Nissan are not super reliable, but if you change the fluid every 30k thousand miles using ONLY NISSAN BRANDED CVT fluid, they tend to hold up fairly well. The problem is that the Maintence guides in many of these vehicles say that the transmission fluid doesn’t even require inspection until the first 60k miles and by that point, many of these transmissions have already suffered some degree of damage.

Nissan CVT Automatic Transmission have drain plugs most Techs and NISMO enthusiasts will recommend off the record of course to use the drain measure and fill technique...jack up car remove drain plug drain into a clean container so you can actually inspect the old fluid and measure how much you drain (most recommend 1or2 quarts at a time) then replace plug and add new CVT full synthetic fluid each cost approx$10-$15 per quart NOT ATF FLUID! CVT SYNTHETIC FLUID DESIGNED FOR IMPORT vehicles. Then To refill you have two options in which case you have to locate where the dipstick used to be on top of trans under battery tray near starter on 4cyl models...or on newer models use an Allen bit to remove the fill plug if equipped or a long skinny funnel that may have to be modified to fit in the "non dip stick" filler type tube on older models (I've seen and used them on 2005-2010) Drive for a few hundred miles and repeat this is more like an extended flush and fill but is less harmful than doing a service on most higher mileage Nissan's I'm sure there are videos of this process already if not there should be!

Prophylactic lol think you meant preventative maintenance but in essence it's a vehicle prophylactic since it's protecting against unwanted failure of transmission

That looks identical to a skateboard bearing, also NMB 608z. If you could change the bearing, fit either Powell swiss bearings or the ceramic bearings instead. NMB's are considered trash in the skateboard world btw..

All Nissans using this type of motor suffer same issue, Xtrail T31, Qashqai J11, Rogue etc... If you use AC a lot typical failure time is after 3yrs, This failure has roots in Nissans collaboration with Renault group as some Renaults have same failure (Espace V for example) as oem manufacturer of all those fan assemblies is Valeo using that crappy Nidec motors they've got for cheap. It's planned obsolescence at its best and Nissan/Renault group should be held responsible for this.
