The best part is, Kishimoto confirmed he had considered adding a Chao Garden into Frontiers at several points when working on the main story, but ultimately couldn't (likely the game getting rushed to release). He also spoke highly of the feature and confirmed it was going to be considered for the next game during development, and considered it an "attractive item that goes well with the open zone format." There's hope it may come back soon. Especially since he's been answering a ton of questions about it lately. The amount of questions he's been answering has been dwindling to like, 2 questions every 3 weeks, and he's been answering more about the Chao Garden lately, so... I dunno. Seems like if it ever comes back, it's most likely to happen soon or in the next game or two.

it's a shame the chao garden just dissapeared. it was beloved in SA1 and 2, especially 2, then heroes got rid of it because it would break the pacing? kinda a weird way of thinking, you'd want something to break up the monotiny that is going fast and holding forward. i liked Frontier as a concept, never finished it since it just became an "go here, collect this, go there, collect this, go there, collect this, hand in collectables to the character, get story bit, go there, collect this" and it became boring real fast, i would honestly be more compelled to play it if i had an alternative goal than just collecting these collectables and unlocking more of Sonics "natural" abilities. kinda wish we could get an actual SA3 at some point, with how smooth it feels and without the need of an "press to go fast" button. the level design lends itself to that button, granted, but it isn't like the adventure or heroes style levels, where getting speed and maintaining said speed was satisfying. can't exactly feel good about pressing a button to go to top speed, hit a wall, jump and just press that button again.

it's an odd decision to exclude the chao garden because it would break the gameplay loop according to them. if you're going fast all the time, you kinda want a breather every now and then, that's why SA2's chao garden was the best of the 2, if you didn't want to go to the chao garden, then don't pick up the key, if you did, just quickly exit afterwards, no biggie. SA1s was also nice since you can visit at your own leisure at any point in time, granted you had adventure fields to break the high speed action. but for them to go "it would break the gameplay loop too much" is just a really shitty line of thinking, that shows to me they have no idea what players really want and need. you need a moment to process what just happens, that's generally why stories don't go hard on the plot at all times, generally you see a major plot reveal, followed by some relaxing or calming setup for the next part.

I'd say the real reason why the Chao Garden never returned is because it's too much work. The Chao Garden is surprisingly complex for an artificial life mechanic and the developers probably figured it would take too much time out of what they have planned for new games.
@GamingintheAM0801 Жыл бұрын
I think it's also just because the Chao Garden was part of the goal to show off everything the Dreamcast could do, which included having a minigame that took advantage of the VMU. When the games were ported to GameCube, it was fortunate that the console had an approximation of that connectivity (with the GBA Link Cable). But from Sonic Heroes on, Sonic games had to be more homogenized to be able to be released as multi-platform titles, and there was also just no incentive for Sega to "show off" the secondary features of consoles that weren't theirs.

You can raise and take care of chao as either a Sonic Character of your choice or the OC from Forces. Create your own garden yourself and participate in LOTS AND LOTS of minigames with them online against other player's who've also worked hard to raise their chao. Tbh, i'm surprised they haven't tried it already, the idea seems golden to me. You can lock certain Eggs and Upgrades for your chao behind participating in Minigames or getting certain structure's/buildings in your garden. Certain chao might be better at some minigames than other's based on Stats.
@FSAPOJake Жыл бұрын
Amazing that chao never came back, especially with the mobile phone game boom of the 2010s. You really mean to tell me that a chao game on your phone wouldn't be immensely popular? The next Sonic game should have a full chao garden, and there should be a Tiny Chao Garden companion app to go with it that acts as a spiritual successor to Chao Adventure or Tiny Chao Garden.
@SoraKingdom3 Жыл бұрын
I can think of a multiple reasons why that's the case. But mostly the fact that in the Adventure games, the Chao Garden was meant to work ALONGSIDE the main game. They would have to rework it so you can farm the cores and animals without the main levels if it's an only phone game. Second, they already don't have the time to properly finish their games so to develop something as complex as the Chao Garden as a time waster that doesn't add that much to the main gameplay? Yeah I can see why it never came back into the main serie.
@LoliconSamalik Жыл бұрын
@@SoraKingdom3 The first point is true. The Chao Garden was suppose to help newcomers to action platformers get better at them by endearing the player to take care of them. And the only way to do so is by playing action stages. It's a gameplay loop that's suppose to entourage improvement at the main game that is otherwise very ignorable to those already good at the game..

As someone who enjoys SA1, this video was very informative. A fact about SA1 I know is that if you play the Sand Hill level 256 times, you can access the flashback area of Mystic Ruins.

Kinda curious why he didn't like the 16-bit era Sonic's personality, didn't really get a clear picture there... like, what part didn't he like? How he was written in the comics or cartoons? How he acted in the videogames, considering no dialogue and all? And what did he change to his liking from the older titles?

@@Skye2993 Implying that japanese people writing stories ain't gonna feel like an anime because that's all westerners know... Sonic wasn't popular in his home country not helped with the Sonic media there being non-existent outside of a short weird superhero manga. He was still just a bunch of sprites with little going on in comparison to now. Now his world is a lot more exciting to go through in comparison with him feeling like a more realized character.
@genyakozlov1316 Жыл бұрын
He was like an impatient cartoon with attitude, like Woody Woodpecker or Donald Duck, instead of impatient Shonen protagonist with attitude, like Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho. The difference is less slapstick (but still some), more acting smooth and collected, less selfishness like "I'm outta here" from CD or annoyed at the player in idle animations, more trying to help everyone including your enemies. His temper and attitude, like getting angry at shadow, remain the same, just more subdued. Sonic only lost his attitude and became purely nice in 06 and Unleashed and he didn't write those outside of Shadow's story.

Funny since Phantasy Star did the same thing with it's influences as well. In the past, it was influenced by Zelda's unused future story concepts. In New Genesis, The gameplay was inspired not only by breath of the wild but also Xenoblade Chronicles with the story and world exploration.

I definitely think we'll see a new Sonic Adventure title this decade. The "open-zones" in Sonic Frontiers are basically much, MUCH bigger versions of the hub worlds in the first Sonic Adventure like Station Square, Mystic Ruins, and the Egg Carrier. They're filled with way more stuff to do and have portals to Cyber Space the same way you could access the Action Stages. With Sonic Frontiers as the foundation, it's completely possible that we'll see a remake of the first Sonic Adventure game or a totally new game in that style.

I'd like to see the open world of Fronteir scaled down a bit in order to put more substance into it. I had fun with Fronteirs, but the majority of the things to interact with on the islands are just rails and springs.

The Virgin Super Mario 64: Devotes two-thirds of the controller's buttons to controlling the camera, camera still sucks regardless. The Chad Sonic Adventure: Just points the camera where the player needs to go, camera sucks slightly less.

Omg I love please save my earth! The reason that manga has a disclaimer at the beginning that it's not based on real life is because people started writing the author letters saying they too were reincarnated aliens like Alice. It really upset her so please save my earth was the first. (I'm kind of a megafan, and think it also inspired sailor moon)
@mariokarter13 Жыл бұрын
Wow, that's not the plot of Please Save My Earth at all. Aliens from a distant planet create a moon base, eventually die, and get reincarnated as Japanese teenagers.
