Why Star Wars and not Alien? The Making of a Mega-Franchise

I think one of the main reasons many people prefer Star Wars over Alien or Star Trek is that they don't care for hard sci-fi. For me Hard Sci-fi like Alien and The Expanse will always be my favorite kind of Science Fiction but many others simply don't like those kind of stories and would rather Space Fantasy's like Star Wars or Warhammer 40k. There is nothing wrong with having preferences. People should enjoy what ever they like. Hard Sci-fi fans will just always be a small group.
