To be frank I have 18 years of experience and I have switched jobs 10 times. I have not stuck to a company for more than 2 years on an average. My experience looks like a long list of grocery list. This becomes a problem when I again try for other organization as they think I am not dependable. So stick to a company 3 or 4 year and then jump to another company. But you have to make sure that you get good hike every time you jump.

Most techies fall into the lifestyle trap. Whatever they earn, they spend it on buying the most expensive things. There are many techies who have bought apartments over a crore because they have a salary of 30L - 40L. Instead of increasing their net worth with savings and investments, they pay EMI and interest to the bank. Usually, those who stick with one company and earn a humble salary can't afford to fall in lifestyle trap. They save up and work on improving their net worth. Higher salary is a big trap. It cannot be sustained as our value as labour decreases over time. So it's never about huge salary, it's about huge savings by avoiding the lifestyle trap. You may ask, doesn't huge salary lead to big savings. Mostly huge salary leads to unaffordable lifestyle.

Hello Sir, This is only valid for service based companies where most of the freshers/ young people join at ~3.5LPA even in this era. But product based companies pay freshers minimum 6LPA ALand now a days even 9-10LPA. Usually in product based companies and average employee will also have minimum 2.5x(years of experience) i.e. with 5 years work experience that person will get minimum 12.5LPA. This is as per my observation as I've switched from service to product company.

Let's say someone joins TCS/Infy and stays there for 5-6 years, and after that gets an onsite opportunity in US/UK/Europe for 3-4 years. Their savings, learning and exposure will be greater than what they would have got by switching once every 3 years. So I think it's perspective of person on why they want to stick with a company for longer that matters. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Yes, this is a big mistake. I have also made it. I have been with the same organization for the past 12 years. I don't know if changing now is a good option. Changing jobs every 2 years is the correct approach. Staying in any organization for more than 4 years is a big NO, especially in the IT industry.

Anand but after seeing the current job situation, I feel job security has taken a higher precedence than career growth. Stagnation is better than being laid off., at least you are getting an x amount of money each month and if you are able to sustain yourself by keeping your needs basic, it's better than being in a high paying job for a few years and then suddenly being fired

They do this lip service of loyalty / long career etc Just to keep some other things in basket. Actually they do this to keep crap people to do crappy work. Because they go no one from market will do that work.
