I've been using a bulky/fast nasty plot Gholdengo with 236hp/44def/28+spatk/4spdef/196spe It gives Gholdengo optimal leftovers recovery, survives 252+atk black glasses sucker punch from Kingambit, outspeed timid Pelipper, and it can still OHKO H-Typhlosion with shadow ball. Gholdengo has been fantastic as a secondary steel type on my Archaludon (best pseudo) rain team with how common and annoying Sneasler is.

Controversial take, but these 3 steel types feel more necessary to building a strong team in reg h then car, ice rider, and miriadon were in reg g. Like at least in reg g you could run pagos, zam, or kyogre and have extremely strong results consistently. This reg unless you're running psyspam you are literally THROWING if you don't have one of these 3. And honestly psyspam really should find a way to insert one of these guys tbh. Idk. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel super constrained team building because of these 3 guys...

Which, in my experience, is something most people have serious issues with accepting. Like unironically if you want to win in reg h i genuinely believe you NEED a steel type and almost always need garchomp.

I think the problem with this argument is it doesn't have an agreed definition for what an "open format" means. For example does 1 mon being on every team mean a lack of openness even if the other 5 are generally diverse in specific mons and play styles and archetypes? people will disagree and want different things out of a format as far as diversity goes

Put bluntly if you basically require 1 of dengo, gambit, or arch,AND almost always need chomp (unless you're tr with ursa or rain) then its pretty damn centerlized. If we were to continue this format for a year you would see all the random shitmons people are using get dropped and the top mons would start to get the 50+% usage we expect. People are just forcing unoptimal mons when, by now, we know they don't do anything

@@Joeybanananas ok so to explain where you're misunderstanding my statement's intentions, yes it's a semantics argument. it's supposed to be, since I believe that's why people would disagree with you. you were wondering why some people think the format is more open despite certain facts you've presented. I'm answering that they look at "open format" to mean something different to you. not that they are right or you are right. secondarily unrelated to our previous points, the existence of bad mons doing better while something some players enjoy is not where most people disagree, people are often just referring to being able to use lower power mons who don't function in higher power levels like eggxsecute, yanmega, yanma, or any fairy type outclassed by fluttermane, not to mention dragons, and not having to deal with many teams that despite fitting different archetypes are all in a sense playing around "protect the president" which can be very tiring, and regardless the diversity of playstyles and mons are still very apparent just looking at top cuts, as we see new mons appear and disappear frequently. But that's neither here nor there I don't really care if you enjoy the lower power format, I simply wanted to explain the disconnect you were speaking about in your original point. If you have no interest in understanding why people push back on your claim and you only have intentions to argue why people you disagree with are wrong when I'm not trying to take their side and simply presenting their perspective since you seem to not understand it and I assumed you'd have interest in that. if you lack that interest then I do not have interest in furthering the conversation as IF that was the case then there's no point in me discussing your initial point that you set out to present and challenging your preconceived notions, even when I may agree or disagree with certain points btw I apologize if this comes off rude or as me sounding like I think I'm better than you, I do not mean for that.
