Real suggestion from a Norwegian: Get a can of "Snow Grip" from a gas station, it's called "Kjetting På Boks" in norwegian. Even with winter tires you can/will find yourself sliding on frost/snow/ice if the teperature falls. Temps are fluctuating wildely in Scandinavia lately so you'll experience rapid changes in conditions. Aside from that, Scandinavia is populated and safe (and warmer than ever) so you'll be fine! 100% of tourists die from falling off cliffs and mountains so maybe not do that.

Well done so far. I have memories of Lubeck. The first time I went to Germany was on a coach trip. We got dropped off in the centre for a couple of hours. I went walkabout by myself and got lost. I was getting quite panicky, could not find the coach. I thought the best thing I could do was stand in a prominent position at a busy road junction, and hope that they found me. And they did. The other passengers were not best pleased that I had held them up. ilona

What fun! I spent the 1970's traveling Europe in our orange VW bus. Everybody is nervous for you with your heat problems. I now live in the US. We live with snow and cold. Please keep your truck full of gas (petrol) if you ever get caught with no heat in the truck camper, you will always have the heat in your truck. Just make sure your exhaust pipe is not under snow. Bring your sleeping bags, water and food along with carbon monoxide alarm. Keep heat at lowest while comfortable in sleeping bag. That way heat will last longer. In a true blizzard it could be a couple of days before roads are cleared and rescue is possible. An alternative is a mister heater small propane heater. I know you are doing this on a budget, but, a back up is well worth it when headed into snow country. Have fun but stay safe.

I lived three years in various parts of Scandinavia and aside from moderate snow, didn't encounter anything unusual. I really don't think it's that drastic; it all depends on quite where they head to and they can modify and shop en route, taking advantage of the stores catering to local requirements.

Snow chains are only used if you get stuck in deep snow, which you probably won't do with your four-wheel drive car. Drive to BILTEMA which is available in almost all cities. One might say that the brush lady was as daft as one, but in the nicest possible way. A much needed light relief after the Gestapo Museum.

Just been on Google maps, you can go from Bruges to Lapland in 26 days, walking. So I think you should make it in a vehicle.
@ThoseHappyDays14 күн бұрын
Definitely not going to attempt to walk it

I hope you don't have to, good luck with the rest of your journey.

Fleischwurst is a lunch sausage you eat cold as you discovered. Obviously that's a vegan one which is probably why it melted. It translates to meat sausage in english. My mother was German and came from Oldenburg not too far from Breman so I understand some German and lived there in army quarters with my family from age 5 to 11. My brother lives with his german wife in Hilchenbach not too far south of Koln (Cologne) up in the mountains. It's popular with skiers in winter and hikers in summer. Some of my best childhood memories are from visiting my relatives in Oldenburg and I will never forget my first view of the Reign. It was soooooo big! ❤❤❤

I admire your bravery as you don't seem to have a lot of luck with vans and things going wrong. Hope it's all OK.

In Cologne we freeparked by the river nr a bridge. Too near the river maybe not a good idea in wet winter weather though. Those riverboats are something else, sooo long!

Would you consider buying a small single ring gaz cooker that uses the small cannisters..as a backup or when you need to boil water for a hot cuppa while cooking... Or to give you wider options for meals..

You can register your vehicle online for entering German. Cities
