Van is an amazing story teller. I think what makes him so good is that we all hope to have a little bit of Van’s passion and drive in us. The Spirited Man is one of the best things I’ve ever seen on KZbin, and the authentic feel of it is something that not just anyone can do.
@VlogwithKing3 жыл бұрын
Love it! That's a great insight. I think you're right, his passion and drive definitely ignited the creativity in me to not settle! Agreed. I absolutely love this authentic brand of storytelling. Which feels weird to say, because the style of this series is very similar to the HBO show or the older videos Casey and Van made, but I was never THAT in love with those. I think the core concept of the spirited man really connected with me.

Totally. Calling it an ad in many degrades it, which I hope the video didn’t come across this way. I was just so inspired by how his storytelling moved me.

I think it's just the wholesome way he presented it, combined with previous knowledge of Van's work in the Neistat brothers and his previous endeavours. What made us subscribed though, is the sheer creativity and artistry of the spirited man himself.

Totally agree with you. I like the way you put it. It is definitely wholesome to share stories about a person he genuinely cares for and has a history together with. What I loved about this video was how he focused on telling their stories and really letting us decide for ourselves whether we are interested or not. And all the props should be given to Van for converting thousands of spirited men across youtube. haha

When he’s telling us Van’s the best KZbinr, Van hasn’t even uploaded anything yet. Authentic storytelling sells for the long run, being told a story to evoke an expected reaction only works in the short run. We subscribed and some donated to his Kickstarter and others have started buying the branded merchandise that the story set up.
@VlogwithKing3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha it’s true. I had a very similar feeling. He talked about it as if he’s seen all his videos and therefore the only person his turns on notifications for. But then again, he probably did see all his videos for. Regardless though, what Casey did is only for the short term, whether people stay with Van is entirely up to the audience’s own connection with Van’s stories. If it falls flat, then he won’t have staying power.

This feels like you've only told half the story. I had never heard of Casey until i watched a few Van Niestat vids and seen Casey mentioned again and again in the comments. I found Van as a YT recommendation. I first watched his 4 turnings video and was amazed by the story telling and uniqueness of his style. I instantly subbed! I feel like you overlooked Vans film making quality and his viewers engagement (comments, likes etc) on YT as a huge part of his quick growth.

That’s a fair assessment! I guess this video was more from my thoughts on what Casey did on his video. But you’re right, there’s definitely Van’s side, and he definitely kills it! Okay, let me get this straight, you're watching a video where Casey Neistat is discussing his genius brother, Van Neistat, and the question you ask yourself is, "Why am I watching this, what value am I getting from this?" Unless you re-think your perspective and priorities, YOU will never be a Neistat.

I’d watch whatever Casey posted, anyway, and i think that posting in the end tones down his sales effort, which i appreciate. But im a fan, and it might not have worked so well with no-fans, but Casey was surely talking to his fan base. Good video and discussion though.
@VlogwithKing3 жыл бұрын
Many great thoughts here. When you mentioned "that posting in the end" are you referring to him kind of laughing about it before it cuts to "subscribe to van"? I agree with you, most likely wouldn't have worked for non-fans. Which was why I think he probably used the thumbnail and title as he did. It's almost like saying, I'm going to talk about my brother, Van. If you're not interested, don't watch. This helps "qualify" his fan base so all the traffic Van gets are quality leads which will most likely lead to conversion?
@cz23013 жыл бұрын
@@VlogwithKing yea, i think if Casey opened by saying “my brother Van is launching his own channel, go check him. Let me tell why”, it mightnt have worked with some people, but his fan base already know who Van is and, again, it would make no difference how Casey pitched the message. In the casey of famous vloggers, they can do most whatever they want, other than being a jerk (like paul logans faux pas) bc they,ve already established their reputation. It,s the new folks that carefully need to build their communication strategy, but again if you,re not bold enough and dont take some risks, you might not stand out from the crowd.

The idea of telling someone to subscribe before you give them any reason to is absolutely ridiculous to me. I immediately click away from youtubers who waste too much of my time before they get to the content. I honestly hate that people say subscribe at all in their videos. If people like your content they WILL subscribe. If not, they won't. Let the content do the talking.
@VlogwithKing3 жыл бұрын
Haha, totally know what you mean. The key for me is what you said about how long it takes to get to the content. As long as that happens at a reasonable rate I don't mind toooooooo much. 😉
