I do remember the books had a bit different structure then the movies. The second Hunger Games for Catniss was only the first third of the story of the second book I think - a lot was also about district 13 and Katniss trying to survive there without Peeta. She also never personally really wanted the revolution - but felt pressured to play a role in order to free Peeta from the capitol. Other people have been working in the shadows for that for decades - including her dead father. In District 13 she had to deal with a lot trauma, Prim growing up and no longer needing her, even her Mother got better. So that was one of the first instances where there's no outside influence compelling her to fight the circumstances so her loved ones can survive and she had to adapt, learn to deal with her demons/depression and find a motivation for herself to live. Which was a journey even to the end - Peeta coming back so changed was especially hard for her. I would almost go as far as that the books are not really about a revolution - but what kind of outside structure/government you can live with or what you'd do be willing to risk to change something. Finding the people important to you - that will help you move forward from passed hurts so you can have healthy relationships and a fulfilled live. I curiously wasn't really a huge fan of the books (~15 years ago) - but read some good fanfics that opened my eyes a bit.

One thing that folks need to keep in mind and it explains why the structure is off. The author never intended to write a trilogy the first book was meant to be a stand alone novel. It was the publisher who pushed for her to expand the story. So She had to basically reboot the story in book 2 to continue it and then slap a ending on it as soon as it was rebooted. If it was meant to be a trilogy for the beginning it would have felt more natural to standard structure.

@@alejandrogonzalezakamintyt2242 Oh absolutely no doubt, I only think it would have been better if she had decided going into book one that it would be a trilogy. Just think how great she did not knowing--image if she had. it would have 10X the series.

Wow that's was very insightful. Keep it up and you will soon blow up. However, I don't think hunger games was about a hero leading a revolution against a tyrant. Katnis never wanted to lead the revolution (nor she agreed with most of what they do) she was pushed into it. All she ever wanted was for her family to be safe. You can say she was a hero desperately trying to avoid her adventure quest and only doing it begrudgingly to get people off of her back. She had a passive approach to whatever going on in her surrounding. Although, somewhere she also recognizes that she's got what it takes to lead and revolutionize the districts but she doesn't want that. Because she knows doing so will put her family at risk. She is the opposite of your traditional hero who is willing to put their loved ones at risk for the greater good. That's why you don't have any second act.

Also The author never intended this to be Katniss's war (Would it have made for a better story-yes) she was always meant to be a pawn in a larger war that she never wanted any part of. This would have been a better war story from Gales prospective with him going to the games. He wanted the war and was a more active character, however he was stuck on the sidelines.
