There's something so human and warm about the original animation.

The criticisms directed at Rachel were mostly inspired by her very insulting comments about the original. But you are right about the costume; my first thought was "Value Village Hallowe'en rack". At least they didn't have her wearing crocs.

You have some insightful comments. The aestetics of this movie could really need some more thought. From what we have seen, it is campy indeed, and not in a good way. We are apparently headed for something full of CGI animals looking far more fake than cute, whereas the protagonist has lost the kindness and innocence of the original to become more of an entitled brat. She invades the home of the dwarfs and starts bossing them around instead of being grateful that they give her shelter. As one commenter put it, this movie is apparently about an upper-class person who thinks of people of another race as her servants. Really progressive, Disney!

@@ChaoticNeutralCosplayer Curious, was there a reason you wore the brown dress? I mean, was it a special occasion or something like that? It just doesn't seem like the people in charge would bother giving the Snow White actress two different costumes (except for the weather changes). I can understand them giving the Belle actress two costumes, since Belle's blue and yellow dresses are equally iconic.

The one thing that I really don't like in the trailer is that most of the scenes are composed as though they were filmed in darkness and out-of-focus. As a result, objects are really hard to see. This is so inappropriate given that it's mostly CGI. It's even true for scenes that should have a bright mood, such as the dancing dwarves scene. Six out of ten.
@viviennemorgan72172 ай бұрын
agreed on the outfits and dwarfs the outfits need to go and disney needs to hire dwarf actors not cgi nightmares, that will have kids scared for their lives at first the witch scene scares kids in the orignal but these are nightmare fuel.

Could not agree more. I was excited when I heard Zegler cast because I love her voice…BUT. The hair. Why….why…why…why did we have to go with the 30s Bob? This story takes place in the 16th century. No one had hair like that except men. The dress too could have been adapted from that stiff cartoon version to something a bit more organic and flowy. I’m just beyond disappointed in these really decisions that feel really misguided.

Well, there is the 1997 version of Snow White: A Tale of Terror with Sigourney Weaver, which has a much darker tone than the usual fairytale adaptations. No real gothic horror, but still dark fantasy. I liked it. This new version is just disgraceful to the original cartoon and Walt's vision back then. The costumes look super cheap, more like a TV production rather than a 400 million dollar production. The CGI looks weird and sometimes even bad (the cartoony look, which some animals like the deer or the dwarves have may be intentional, but still ... it's a live action remake, right? However, from the teaser we've seen about 80% is CGI, backgrounds included. And when I look at the castle, not even good ones. No details, no ornaments, no flags, no plants, nothing. The overall casting is bad. Rachel Zegler was miscast from the beginning. Her attitude, her mordern, woke way of thinking every female being should be a strong leader, including a princess - nonsense! Snow White is a kind, warmhearted, gentle being, who takes care of others, everyone love her. Rachel's portrait of her - especially during the leaked "Whistle While You Work" clip is absolutely the opposite - she bosses the dwarves around and teaches them how to clean THEIR home. The dwarfs itself behave rather stupid, almost like idiots. They have nothing in common with the loveable and charming characters from the 1937 cartoon. Walt Disney would be ashamed of this remake and I hope, Disney will lose much money with this ... mistake.
@annaliesecancilla8942 ай бұрын
I think another reason people don’t like Rachel Ziegler is because she had that whole press tour where she was disparaging the original movie. The criticism of her opinions in this has always bugged me because I feel like there’s no way Disney didn’t prepare her with exactly what they wanted her to say. Like, Disney would never cast someone then let them say whatever they want during press tours, and there’s no way she would say something so out of pocket without permission (actors have been fired for less) Idk, in my opinion, if you’re gonna be mad at someone for thinking the og snow white is anti-feminist, be mad at Disney, not Rachel.
@ChaoticNeutralCosplayer2 ай бұрын
EXACTLY, thank you! Disney’s been modernizing remakes in this way since beauty and the beast, clearly it’s the direction the company chose to go in.
@fetBАй бұрын
Well that's the thing, she had permission because they agree with the notion. So people should be mad a Disney for not censoring Rachel, but letting her speak her mind?

I'm just disappointed that the dwarves are going to be CGI with voiceovers and not real people in costumes and make-up. I know CGI and voiceovers are cheaper, but live actors would look so much better.

Wait, so they re-shot the movie without full sized non-dwarves and switched to cartoons instead of using actual dwarves?! That seems very discriminatory and taking opportunity from the community of little people..

Snow White: A Tale of Terror. It's a straight-up retelling of the original story, emphasizing the dark/creepy aspects (the queen really DOES what her stepdaughter dead); that movie needs to be rediscovered, and this would appear to be the time for it!

I still think Gennifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas did the best live action snow white and charming available. Not only is it much more true to the original feel and dynamic of the characters, but they are also married in real life... and when they kissed on set in the pilot, it started to majestically snow. lol

I know I'm probably in the minority but I actually really liked the trailer. I thought it was beautiful and seemed very faithful to the original. What I am concerned about is how much the majority of the film will deviate from the animation when we sit down and actually watch the film. I don't have an issue with them tweaking the original a little but seeing as it's classic disney and the first ever film done by them, it really needs to be quite a faithful re-telling to be respectful and please the crowd. I keep hoping they've secretly done a lot of re-shoots so that happens 🙏

Before we start, I have an amazing Snow White version for you to read, from Neil Gaiman. It’s called Snow, Blood, Glass and it’s from the POV of the Queen. Also, I have a weird question: Disney could have picked anyone to be their Snow White. They have actresses playing her in every park. They have voice actors portraying her. We animators are taught on animation rule developed for this movie. Why did they have to this little nobody who can’t keep her mouth shut for her life?
@ChaoticNeutralCosplayerАй бұрын
Oh that sounds like a neat book, I’ll have to check it out! And as far as casting goes: Casting a face character from the park isn’t really a solution, because it requires a totally different skill set than starring in a movie musical. There are a lot of talented folks who do park meet and greets, but just because they look like the character doesn’t mean they can sing, dance, or that they’re the right union status to be considered at an audition for a major film. Another thing is age. Disney’s Snow White is really young. Most people in the right age range to play her are pretty early on in their careers and unestablished. It doesn’t really make sense for Disney to take a chance on an unknown for such a big project when they have Rachel Zegler in the same age range who already was the lead in two successful movie musicals and is the youngest ever golden globe winner for comedy/ musical. Another thing to consider is her singing abilities. The music in Snow White is really hard to sing, and it’s sung in a style that requires a certain vocal type and style that’s sort of uncommon to find nowadays. Rachel Zegler is known for singing in this style really well. I don’t doubt that there are other people on the planet who could also do this role justice, and I get why Rachel may have rubbed some the wrong way. But she’s definitely a qualified performer.

The weird thing that’s bothered me from the start about this is that Sandy Powell, the designer of the absolutely gorgeous live action Cinderella dress…is also the costume designer on this live action Snow White. I wonder if executive meddling (to be able to sell costumes/merchandise that appeals to children with bright colours) or even the director himself’s vision had a hand in why the dress turned out so uncharacteristically garish; Sandy Powell’s designs are never this gaudy and cheap-looking.
