It amazes me how knowing what you do translates to being able to use just 1 product to polish and get the same results! In case of a heavily scrathced paint, please show us in a video, it will be very useful to see the results there as well!

1) Can you finish your first pass of the ENTIRE vehicle with your wool pad (cleaning your pad of course) without wiping the polish in between panels? 2) If performing a final polish with the gold pad, is it advised to wipe off the old polish from step one or can you just polish right on top of the old polish?

I’ve adopted your process using the wool pad on the DA for cutting and jeweling pad on the rotary for finishing on about 80% of the cars I detail now. It never fails to produce great results! Thank you Yvan!

Just amazing Ivyan! (hope I spelled your name right I think that’s how it was spelled in the video you did with Pan recently) Watching you use only one spray per pass & wipe with only a wet towel then buff blew my mind! When I first saw just the one spray on pad before you started I thought this can’t turn out good! But unlike most detailing videos you are honest about your product & not just trying to sell more than is needed! Almost every video I’ve watched from you I hear you say less is more so thank you for being honest & helping us DIYers! Before I found your videos I was feeling overwhelmed that I wouldn’t be able to afford maintaining my car properly with the amount of product other say is needed! Keep up the great work!! Thanks!!!

Ivan, so do you ever use pressure when you are buffing? If you are doing a heavy cut 1st do you use pressure?
@viperrcr
@viperrcr Жыл бұрын
Just to throw my 2cents in...If using Gold Standard and yellow pad, I would try only a slight pressure at first, assess your results. If you want more cut, I would switch to microfiber pad and assess. If you still want more cut, switch to a longer throw polisher if you have access to one. If no access, then increase pressure and or speed of the polisher. You want to try to introduce as little heat as possible to the paint to protect that beloved clearcoat! Yvan has a great video on the 5-5-5 technique that can help you assess what works. If possible and you have access to one, I would always take a measurement of the paint thickness gauge first before any correcting to see how much clear you have to work with. Don't want to take too much off, better to suffer with some scratches than to have no clear for UV protection especially with old/soft clearcoat.
@diydetailofficial
@diydetailofficial Жыл бұрын
No, pressure reduces cut by creating heat. People feel like adding pressure or speed cuts more, it doesn’t, but since you’re working harder you think it does. More cut is obtained by changing to a wool pad. Avoid Micro Fiber pads as they also create heat.

You guys have really developed a simple yet effective system, Yvan! Quick question: I noticed that you only used the red jeweling pad with the rotary, but used the yellow waffle pad as your "second step" when using a DA. Is it more effective as a "finishing" pad with a DA than the red pad would be on a DA?
@diydetailofficial
@diydetailofficial Жыл бұрын
The gold pad on a DA works well. The red pad is best suited to a rotary, or on a short stroke DA.

If the black is the Chrysler metallic black that is a medium to hard clear coat. You’ll need the yellow waffle pad at least. In the end only a test spot can tell you the level of aggressiveness needed to correct the defects.
