It’s very simple, her performance during prelim was very lack luster. Thai fans have already accepted this. She just didn’t show any drive during the entire pre pageant activities and the actual prelim. It’s so disappointing because any of the other women in the top five at MUT 21 would’ve given a much better performance had they gotten to represent Thailand at MU. The MU Thailand organization has placed huge emphasis on English language proficiencies in recent years and I hope that this unplacement really wake them up and force them to give other girls whose English is not so good a chance at the crown.
@KuyaBJLaurente2 жыл бұрын
I agree with their emphasis on the English language, even the non-pageant fans in Thailand observed that. But well, it's also important to be able to communicate to other nations and markets using English, the global lingua franca of business (since pageants are businesses too), but there were many successful and remarkable queens whose first language/mother tongue are not English, like Iris Mittenaere, Riyo Mori and a bunch of Latina queens.

For Anchilee, it was a combination of her poor technique, lack of confidence in the prelims, and I would like to add, her posts about #RealSizeBeauty. Unlike Sierra who promoted acceptance (maybe even bordering victimhood at some points), Anchilee was combative, argumentative and sometimes downright mean in her IG posts when people brought up her weight. Some were mean-spirited comments, and she could've shown her queenly persona by rising above, but she just looked like she was ready to fight you every time. Some of the commenters even were supporting her message. The worst part is that she brings up her weight most of the time, and when people comment, she acts all offended and ready to beat the bejeezus out of those people. In short, Anchilee wasn't QUEEN material.

I also have these following theories why Anchilee was unplaced. 1. Lack of confidence on the prelim stage and showing signs of insecurity in the Evening gown prelim. Her swimsuit is good but safe. Her performance in the EG didn't do well. If she was given a more suited gown, maybe she could score better. 2. Pressure from the competition. Who knows what's going through her mind the whole time. She's trying to make her country, her fans and supporters proud. Too much pressure can affect one's performance. 3. She could be overshadowed by the other girls. It's very competitive and she needs to get noticed or to show how a fierce and strong competitor she is, she could have being it since day 1 or upon arrival. Previous contestants have done this on the past and it helped them go further in the competition.

She was too focused on making a statement of being a big girl in a top pageant. However, she forgot to improve her performance, it was forgettable. Her walk was bad compared to Sierra Bearchell- who had a great walk and stunning poses. I’ve seen Anchilee’s interviews, she seem smart but she doesn’t have that charm that would draw you in and want to know more. It’s blah blah blah to me. Not “oh wow. Personally never thought she would place, I even thought she over-placed at the national pageant. They should have cut her out after swimsuit at MUT. My reasons being: 1. She has never been confident onstage, she walks like she wants to get it done with and go backstage. I'm not talking about the technique of her walk but rather the confidence in her walk. She simply looks bored on stage. 2. She is an "aggressive" speaker. I'm not a native English speaker so I don't really have the perfect word for what I'm describing. She is really overpowering when she speaks, like she is angry with you. While I see that type of intonation doing well in public speaking/top 5 Q&A because it will be termed powerful, I don't think it will be well received in a personal interview, where I think charm is more important. And personal interview helps decides semifinalists. 3. The team didn't know how to style a real size Queen. Their outfit choices were questionable, from her airport outfit to her final dress. Catriona and Andrea were not "pageant size skinny", but their teams knew how to work around it. The fact that her prelim gown wasn't steamed showed incompetence of MUT, especially after the microscope attention they gave Amanda. 4. Other contestants were better prepared.

Sierra in 2016 never lacked energy , she was very active on social media , she was very vocal about the bullying she faced from other contestants and from people and also from her own organisation whereas if I say about Thailand this year, she lacked energy. Her platform was good, but she seemed lost among other contestants. She is tall and has amazing speaking skills, but I personally felt she lacked energy in almost everything. I saw some BTS footages featuring Angi in other contestants videos, she was like dragged and forced to be there. Also, a fact that I hated the most , she is so fluent in English but if you will notice she was doing all her lives in Thai language. You cannot do that. A miss Universe is not for a specific country, she is an universal ambassador, if you have a message and a platform and an advocacy, you need to connect with every class if people, with people coming from different countries. Speaking in Thai is good , I am not saying it's bad , but coming from 🇮🇳 how I will connect with her if she will speak only in Thai. I used to follow her on Insta and whenever she used to go live, I used to get excited and then she used start talking in her local language and I used to be like let's drop it. Take Miss Phillipines for example, she always did her live and interviews with a mix and match of both her local language and in English. That's how you catch attention. I will simply say, compare Angi' performance in her national Paegent and her performance at Miss Universe, it's a heavy downgrade. She had a lot of factors physically wise to capture attention , but she just gave up the competition for other contestants to take it away. I personally felt she was hoping to make the cut via voting because Thailand votes heavily but obviously she lost there as well from Vietnam. Good luck next year and I still love Angi.

@hatomiatruong82212 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, the reasons why Thailand does not have a rank at Miss Universe 2021 are: 1. The real size beauty story that she brings is not new, especially in western countries and they have been open about this issue. 2. Thailand has had a string of achievements for 6 years in a row and is the darling of the Miss Universe organization, so once they send a contestant whose quality is not as good as in previous years, it will be a signal to the Miss Universe organization not to let her in top. This is a mutually beneficial relationship and also to reduce the pressure of prolonging the girls' achievements in the coming years. 3. Of course, being good at speaking is important, but you can't just speak well without having a good physique. It is a matter of the quality of the candidates. If she had made it to the top, next year countries would send candidates who speak well but are not beautiful and the competition will become increasingly degraded. It is still a beauty contest and no matter how it evolves, the core values must remain the same. 4. She made a big media impression when she competed at the national level, but to become a Miss Universe, the judges will see what potential you have other than what you already have, which is the ability to absorb and develop. 5. She has an unconvincing stage performance, as well as her outfit of choice.

What is your definition of beautiful physique btw ? Because Annchilee is physically healthy and that's what matters in MU (there'a no ugly or pretty face in MU either, they know that that's subjective). If you're talking about how she used her body and her facial expressions in her performance, then yeah I agree she didn't have the best physique. And as for the 1st point, while a lot of candidate have advocated for body positivity, none of them were real plus size candidates to the degree of miss Thailand (Sierra wasn't as large and tall as Thailand, and she was more toned). Moreover, the body positivity movement is not developped at all in the Asian continent as much as the west (Ann mentioned this) which consolidates the importance of her advocacy. That made Ann's her advocacy more authentic (because she truly had the experience). I honestly think in the advocacy department, she was strong. I agree with everything you said except for point 1 and 3.

If people were to champion body positivity, I expect to see energy, triumph, joy, happiness, freshness. Siera Bearchell is a brand of pure joy, she has a very sunny smile, and she conveys exactly that. Anchilee's energy was just not there and she became focused serving faces, not realizing she's a lot more attractive whenever she's smiling. Honestly, the lady was beautiful but the energy and prelim gown were hideous. The color was meh, the dress needed ironing, it hugged her body the wrong way which only exposed her insecurities more. Anchilee actually looks really healthy and her face has the perfect symmetry. She's at her most beautiful whenever she smiles, so I think the MUT team should have stayed away from the "victim image" and banked on her joy and youthful/healthy glow. Put her in a bright color that sparks joy, or a cooler tone (like Paraguay's) that conveys freshness and youthfulness. I don't know why, Anchilee looks so healthy and has one of the beautiful faces but the vibe was just off.

The first indication of trouble was the fairly large amount of discontent amongst Thai fans of her winning Miss Thailand….not a good sign. Most importantly, I don’t think her message is really a good one for the pageant. Ultimately, it’s a competition for “the best” and that means physical beauty as well. I don’t think too many people want to tune into a pageant to see “normal size”, “normal shaped” bodies winning…they want the exceptional. For Miss America, sure…for Miss USA, Miss Universe…I don’t see the idea of people with average bodies winning ever resonating anymore than crowning winners with average faces, average personalities…it’s a competition for “the unusually good.”

The best body is subjective, thinner doesn't always mean better. The standard should be having a healthy body. Annchillee is literally physically stronger and more athletic than all the other contestants and she could beat them in a fight. I think it's important to be more inclusive of the different types of healthy bodies. Ann would have won if it wasn't for her dress and poor walk.
@jaredjones58702 жыл бұрын
@Justice For the best of the best in speaking and modelling. The organization itself will tell you that physical appearance doesn't matter as long as the contestant is healthy. MU doesn't have an opinion on a pretty or ugly face because that's subjective (I'm pretty sure you don't find all the MU winners sexy and attractive), What they care about is how the contestant uses their physical appearence (facial expressions, demeanor and walk) when it comes to the physical aspect.
@jaredjones58702 жыл бұрын
@Justice For MU is inclusive there's not one definition of what an exceptional woman is, that's backward thinking. A hand to hand combatant could win MU if she speaks,walks and models well and has a solid advocacy. Anne was an MU favorite as mentioned in the video. If she had a strong walk, fitting dress, more confidence, and better facial expressions during her walk, she would have won. Her loss had nothing to do with her body itself but more so her movement. Andrea won and she definitely did not have the best body in the year she competed.

I no longer believe that walk has lesser importance.. because before you could reach that Q&A round, you need to be a standout first among 80 contestants during prelims...and according to Miss Philippines, they only had 3 minutes to explain their advocacy at the closed interview.. So unless you have a strong profile and unique advocacy, you will have a hard time making the cut..at least a few girls will have ALL qualities.. Performance is everything because even though the org is looking for a specific girl.. there is limited time for judges to see you and the most is onstage..

I feel as if Thailand would have placed and made it all the way to the top 5 if they crowned Tharina Botes as their representative. I know she messed up the top 3 Q and A but that shouldn't be the deciding factor in a national pageant unless if the girls in the Top 5 or top 3 are more or less all good in swimsuit and evening gown and Tharina was one of the best in all segments of competition and can interview well enough to place. The judges should be carefully analyzing all the girls in all segments to choose the best in their country to send to Miss universe. Choosing a girl good in speaking but not a good stage performer is not a great move especially when you have no time to prep that candidate. I love Ann and everything she stands for but she wasn't the viable choice for me. For example, in Miss South Africa Lalela was the best in swimsuit and evening gown during the finals of the Miss South Africa competition but Zimi outshined her during Q and A and has better answers then her but the judges still picked Lalela as Miss South Africa because they carefully analyzed who amongst the girls has a chance of bringing that 4th crown for South Africa and they chose Lalela and guess what? She made it into the top 3 and finished in 3rd place and imagine if they chose Zimi because she had the best answer. We probably wouldn't have placed or placed in the Top 16 only and not advance to the next stage of competition. Judges need to be more strategic when picking their representative for Miss Universe especially the judges who judge the MUT pageant that year.

I think Anchilee and the MUT Org relied on 2 things only when she competed. Her ability to speak English and her advocacy. They failed to realise that most of the candidates can also speak English and can deliver their thoughts very well and they also have equally relevant and timely advocacy. They took for granted the other aspects of a pageant candidate.... stage presence, aura, pasarela, relatability, confidence, personality, the ability to inspire and influence people. In the end, ladies who came more prepared and well rounded slowly climbed to the top. It looked like Anchilee went to Israel feeling like she already won the Ms. Universe crown while the other ladies went there to get that elusive crown. In the end, the lady who worked the hardest got the ultimate reward and that is Ms. India.

Very salient points raised. In addition if I may add, muo moved one step beyond body positivity and use this platform to bring awareness and spotlight towards more important global issues aka environment and sustainability. This was previously Harnaaz's response to the final question.

As we would say in the Philippines, "parang may dinaramdam siya", or translated, "It seems as if she's bringing something heavy". IDK, but for me, in her Prelims performance, it does seem like she was getting affected by the bashing she's getting.

1. Lack of confidence during the preliminary competition 2. The sad look during the national costume competition. She didn’t look happy at all and looked like her mother forced her to dress up for halloween 😂😂 3. Over-hyping her advocacy. It seemed like it was a first time ever that a candidate is “over-sized” or “fat”. 4. She faced a lot of controversies prior going to Israel and inside of Israel. These are: stepping on their national flag and she wasn’t supposed to go to a place in Israel that is actually prohibited for tourists. (I’m not sure) but i heard that she went to a place in Israel that she wasn’t supposed to visit. 5. It is clear that the judges visit the candidates’ Instagram accounts and their National pageants’ accounts. Her pictures were obviously photoshopped. If you compare her photoshoot in Thailand for her prelim EG gown (visit MUT’s account) to the pictures produced by MUO during the preliminary, you could tell the difference. She looked so thin in her photoshoot compare to the pictures by MUO (for prelim gown). If you want to inspire girls to embrace their body, then you have to be true to yourself. Instead, she looked like a hypocrite.

Hi Dani, first of all Thailand is a country I always hope to be in the Top 5. When Anchilee was crowned I felt Thailand finally chose not only a good speaker, but a girl that’s sharp. Obviously her walk needed work, but with the right training I knew it could have been perfected in just a few weeks. When I watched the Miss Universe pageant I was disappointed. 1) if her walk improved, I certainly didn’t see a any improvement. 2) I have no probably with Anchilee’s size, however it’s important to design a gown that compliments her body type. I feel that her gown choice was inappropriate for her body type; it didn’t compliment her. 3) Her walk nor poses were Graceful. 4) Her body language and facial expressions came across tense & defensive to me.

Walk for me is important because in Miss Universe, candidates are literally walking on stage from beginning to end and a girl with a great walk can easily outshine others, can easily stand out from the rest, can be easily noticed by the people watching and we know for a fact that audience impact really has an impact to the judges coz it's what makes the presentation exciting. At the end of the day Miss Universe is a show so you better PERFORM. Look at Thailand 2021, she walks like as if she's going to a grocery store. No impact, you can feel that she did not put effort in her preparation. She lacks life and personality and hence, OUT in the preliminaries. To say that, beauty, walk, gowns are not important is a big scam.

Ann was a great representative from Thailand because she is really remarkable lady. The issue I think should boil down to MUT Org…I noticed that MUT Org way to be competitive is to become like everyone else in the pageant… 1. When other countries sent strong English speaking delegates they seems to follow them to the point that when you actually watched MUT pageant there are a lot of contenders who performed better than their chosen winners and they would preferred Halfies who speak English because its a trend .Also I noticed when other powerhouse sent someone who has stories or will break stereotype they would also do the same… 2.When styling became a thing, Thailand tried to push their ladies to be in an outfits that made them sometimes lost their identity and personality and authenticity. 3. Pasarela..Sometimes I noticed that their walks are not original, they always pushed their ladies walks to be like someone else..In the Philippines we design the walk based on ladies body type, personality and skills..We don’t turn because everybody turn even it doesn’t add to our ladies over all performance. On my opinion Chalita Suansane is the beat representatives of the recent years because of she was so authentic and every time you see her she screams THAILAND.. Thailand is very authentic most especially their culture and people..that is their core and if they learn again to go back in their core maybe they will win…

The only thing that lacks about Mut is they are following the footsteps or the caliber of the recent MU winner which I think is not a good move because knowing that IMG always looking for authencity of a girl what she has to bring infront of the people. Another thing is they always let the girl win that can speak English which is unnecessary for me because they have this runner ups that even cannot speak english but they speak with sense which I see the real winner. It doesn't need a quality to speak a specific language these are the things that I saw lacks them and being left alone. Chalita Suansane is the best representation I love her until now

As a spin-off on your line of thinking about Thailand's brand coming perhaps too recently after Siera's...I also wonder if that concept (of trying to keep things fresh and changing) partial played into why South Africa and Mexico were excluded from semi-finals these last two years their predecessors wore the crown. Does that make sense? Many people had each of them as favorites for at least semis for MU 2020 and 2021, but to go along with your thoughts on Thailand, perhaps without an overly wow or fresh platform or image or whatever, IMG did not accelerate them into a semi-final. I dunno. Just a speculation.

Well, the packaging of a Thai Queen in general is usually too focused on the glam side (i.e. photoshoots, gowns, national costume) that they seem to forget that a Miss Universe has to be relatable and endearing. The last girl from Thailand who was relatable and had all the qualities of a Miss Universe was Chalita Suansane in 2016. Others who followed were too laser-focused on the crown by looking at the external aspect of the competition, to the point that they seem to lose their personality and authenticity on or off stage....
@kawanchiraguna43812 жыл бұрын
Every year I watch Miss Universe preliminary to select my top 15. It is always obvious. I normally get 70-75% right. When I do it, I forget about their facial beauty, becoz they r all beautiful and I have seen their beautiful faces several times on social media. I look for the " just about right" stage presence. U can see the too much and the too little right in front of your eyes. It would have been great, had Thailand's name been called into top 15, but given that it 's a competition.... it is a competition. I expect to see the best walk into 15, and the best of the best, finally take the crown. Being Miss Universe is a life changing experience, and each year, there is only one best lady who deserves it, regardless of where she is from.
