Subbed, what a pleasant, direct, calm video. You're showing us your steps (mechanically & mentally). I really liked this type of video, I just bought this set-up second hand and I'm really looking forward to picking it up and trying it for the first time in Japan.

I have the same habit! My 28-60mm is the "resident" lens on my Sony A7III. Versatile and light, and great image quality. The perfect combo, I would say!

Hi Jimmy. I have just come across your channel and I am enjoying your micro four thirds content. I have the OM 1 mk 1 and my favourite lens is my 12-40 f 2.8 pro, and as with your set up this feels well balanced. I also invited in the 40-150 f 4 pro for the times when I need extra reach, and the wonderful 60mm macro lens. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to more micro four thirds videos 👍

I was looking at the 40-150 f4 as well, but I ended up buying the "Plastic fantastic" instead, the 40-150 f4-5.6R and I'm very happy with it. More MFT coming! ☺

If you're open for purchase I think OM has some good deals / cashbacks right now 😄 I don't know if you've partnered up with MPB at any times, but I've seen other creators being able to borrow a kit for some days to test it out ☺

The OM-1 is now half off at the OM Systems website! And they get it pretty quickly to you as well (if you are in the US, anyway).

Hi Jimmy, great video! What are the names of the camera bags you are using?

Hi there! The red one is a bag from Scandinavian Photo (their own brand) and the big bagpack is a Manfrotto Manhattan Mover 30.

The 12-45mm f/4 is my favorite for the OM-5. While the 12-40 f/2.8 is faster, the 12-45 balances very nicely with the OM-5. It's sharp at f/4 and has a very close focusing distance. The only other lens I normally use is the 20 mm f/1.4 with the OM-5.
@jimmywestphoto2 ай бұрын
Completely agree with you! I got myself a lumix 20mm f/1.7 as well haha. It's also a great lens but I've noticed It's quite slow, so I may have to check out the 1.4 instead, but I like the color from the 1.7 🤔

Tjena!
@jimmywestphoto8 күн бұрын
Tjenare!
@LensCraftedMomentz7 күн бұрын
@jimmywestphoto tack för svar! Ja det perfekta objektivet finns inte (ännu). Jag hade hoppats att slippa stativet lite mer därav frågan. Är det jätte mörkt så får väl stativet jobba eller mer ISO som du är inne på.

12-45 is best lens for OM5/em5 for daily shooting. Optically great, not so big and heavy...
@jimmywestphoto3 ай бұрын
Yeah definetely! But I do feel I'm in need of 2 more lenses that the 12-45 can't do. 1) A wide angle, like 6-8mm and then a 17-20mm as close to pancake as possible so when I'm out and about can use it a little for street photography without people noticing too much.

I own 10 lenses and 4 cameras not including my 5 instant cameras. And my two lenses that pretty much stay on my cameras all the time are my Olympus 17mm 1.2. And my voigtlander 40mm 1.2 for my Nikon ZF. I have one zoom lens and that’s the Olympus 12-40mm 2.8. Great lens but just hardly use it. My wife got it for me with EM1 Mark 1. So I’ll never get rid of it. The camera died a few back though.

I think I never could go "only" primes. But I guess it kinda depends on what you're shooting.. I am looking for a 17 - 25mm lens though for when I'm just on the go, I'm leaning towards one of the pancakes. Would you recommend any specific?
@WhoIsSerafin3 ай бұрын
@jimmywestphoto well, I really enjoy using lumix 20mm 1.7 version 2. People complain that the autofocus is slow, but I find it just fine on the om5. And of course it's not weather resistant. But the photo quality is quite good. And the lumix/leica 25mm 1.4 version 2 isn't a pancake lens, but it's small. Photo quality is super good except for some purple fringing at times. And Version 2 is weather resistant. Overall, it's a fantastic lens! Oh! The supplied lens hood if you use one ( I don't) is horrible. People really like the Olympus 17mm 1.8 but I found something off with the photos I can't put into words. Maybe a lot of in camera corrections? But that's just me when I look at the photos so I sold it.
@jimmywestphoto3 ай бұрын
@@WhoIsSerafin Awesome! Thanks for your input. I’m leaning towards the lumix 20 1.7II or the Oly 17. I’m not too worried about the weather sealing as I’m usually only shooting street when the weather is OK 😂

can't decide between the 12-45 and the 12-40
@jimmywestphoto3 ай бұрын
@@recreationalplutonium So I haven’t tried the 12-40 out, but afaik it’s a little more heavy making it front heavy which may be an issue if you carry the setup around your neck. However, It’s also better in low light situations, like indoors or when it’s darker because of the Aperture. IQ is about the same, but just a tad bit better on the 12-45 according to reviews. Maybe if you go to a shop they’ll let you just mount them on your camera and just carry it a bit to see the difference
@recreationalplutonium3 ай бұрын
@@jimmywestphoto yeah, that's the problem. it's better in low light but it's also heavier. the f4 would be perfect if I never did any low light stuff ... but foggy mornings are just too good to give up and I'm not a tripod kind of guy. problem with shops is that none here carry olympus/om.
@jimmywestphoto3 ай бұрын
@@recreationalplutonium Personally I haven’t had any issues shooting with f4 and lower shutter speeds aside of when there’s movement. The IBIS is great on the OM-5 so for that matter its fine, it’s just at those times you’d want to let in more light so shutter can be faster the 2.8 would be better
@jpsteiner23 ай бұрын
I prefer the 12-45 f/4 with the OM-5. I tend to use the 12-40 f/2.8 with the OM-1. Both lenses are terrific. The 12-45 f/4 just weight balances better with the OM-5. For very low light, I tend to pair the 20 mm f/1.4 with the OM-5. I've shot many pre-dawn and sunrise photos with the 12-45 f/4 without any issues.
@jimmywestphoto3 ай бұрын
@@jpsteiner2 Would've loved to have a 20mm but I feel the 1.4 is a bit to chunky.. I'm looking towards the 1.7 pancake instead even though the AF are said to be slow

@@jimmywestphotoI also appreciated the colours. However, at the start I was put off by the lighting because I was expecting an informational video rather than an atmospheric video. I’m not certain if I have expressed that well. My point is that craft is one thing, marketing your videos is another. I’m mostly a craft guy myself, but I don’t think that is where the big market is. :D

@@RoderickJMacdonald I hear what you're saying, and I appreciate your feedback. That being said, I totally understand your point of view, and I’m always open to hearing different perspectives. 😊

@@jimmywestphoto Perhaps it was the title, although I did not have that in mind when I mentioned my expectations. Thanks for your quick response! I also love the 12-45 because of the great range.
