This is an extremely high quality breakdown. The 49ers dismal start this year is clearly based off injuries, but specifically poor quarterback play, a regressing offensive line, and a few coaching errors. You bring up some very valid points in this discussion. Nice video!

@Antonio Iniguez last year doesn't matter and he was on a stacked roster with a top defense and run game. Now he HAS to put the team on his back like franchise QB should be able to do with the weapons he has on this offense. If he can't lead this team like Wilson or Rodgers is leading theirs then there's no point in keeping him around. If the 49ers lose to the Rams and Jimmy looks bad, he won't be on the team next year maybe even after the trade deadline. We need 2017 Jimmy, first half of the Jets Jimmy, not get Kittle injured Jimmy.

Lynch has stated for his entire career as GM "We want to win in the trenches" and this year they most definitely are not on both sides of the ball, and that literally collapses the rest of the team again on both sides of the ball. secondary didn't need to be like the Patriots and dominant because the front 4 made sure plays didn't get extended that honestly it doesn't matter if they didn't have CB1,2,3,4 or 6 starting they were going to get worked in a pass happy league, that was just a useful excuse for them in the last game.

I think the biggest reason for this hangover was the team felt all they had to do was just get on the field and they’d win. But the Dolphins game was a huge reality check. They came in last night with not only a great game plan but they brought a hunger and focus that was really lacking previously. Hopefully they can keep it up.

@Dankilicious123

Ehhh from a chiefs fan's perspective I think the 49ers are still a great team. They are just absurdly banged up and Jimmy G isn't that good. He's a guy that can win you games but he needs everything to be perfect in order to do it. The injuries have really exposed his shortcomings. Kittle/Bosa are still generational talents and Shanahan still puts together great game plans to put the team in positions to win. He just needs a QB that can put the ball where it needs to be to really flesh out all the things he draws up.

Thanks for doing this. It was therapeutic in a way. You hit on a lot of great points. Because of injuries the defense has suffered a cataclysm in it's depth. A lot of heat is going towards Robert Saleh being too ordinary, but in reality he has mixed up his coverages/tendencies to a good degree. I think he's in a bind though not only due to lack of talent, but when you get guys off the street in a new system he probably has to decide if he should keep things simple or exotic for a skeleton crew defense. It's tough. I was thinking during the offseason that heading into 2020 a handful of players couldn't get hurt/underperform. Kittle, Jimmy G, Bosa, Ford, and Warner/Sherman. But sadly they have all been hurt to the point of even season ending, or just haven't been as good as they were last year. Jimmy is going to shoulder most of the blame at QB, and I think a lot of the criticism is warranted. He plays the one position where even if the team does struggle due to depth/injuries, the QB can be the equalizer. He's making a lot of money to step up, and he just hasn't. I know he's had his share of injuries, but his decision making is really suspect. I guess the "good" news is that the 49ers can get out of his contract next year with only a 3 million dollar cap hit. These last few games are going to be him really playing for his job I think. And it won't be easy since the 49ers have the toughest schedule remaining. At 2-3 a lot of fans are already starting to turn on the team, which is unfortunate, but not surprising in the instant-gratification era. As long as Shanahan and Lynch are in the building in sync, I'll always be looking for positives. I may have to change my mindset as a fan, and lower my expectations for this year now, but I'm not already looking towards the draft or whatever. I still think the current guys can step up, and at the very least be competitive unlike they were against the Dolphins.
@AlexRollinsNFL
@AlexRollinsNFL 4 жыл бұрын
The Bosa injury was awful, he's arguably their best player. The moment you start to take away some of the gas from the DL, there's no way the secondary can be as good as last year. There's a great analogy for evaluating QBs which is "truck vs trailer" Is he going to carry everyone behind him, or is he going to latch on and push towards the goal with the help of others? Jimmy is definitely a trailer and he was last year too

This video is on point, as a niner fan I agree. Jimmy has been missing key throws in games as of late, and it certainly has been an issue on offense. HOWEVER, that does not take away the fact that our o line can’t block to save their lives. Staley and Person were the big guys we needed up front to keep defenders off Jimmy, but ever since they left, teams have been feeding off our o line. People keep blaming Jimmy as being a terrible quarterback, however his missed throws are not the main issue. It’s our front 5 that keep letting the defense blow up our running play’s, and rushing Jimmy that lead to him making bad reads. Not to mention our defense also giving up big plays due to the amount of injuries we have and having practice squad guy’s in place of people like Sherman, Bosa, Moseley, and other starters on our defense who really made our defense so good. Stop blaming this all on Jimmy, there are layers to this, and it needs to be a team effort in order for us to get back into the win category.

As a Seahawks fan, I am weirdly sad the 49ers are not able to execute like they used to. Sure, they did beat the Hawks one time last year and I really think the Cards have finally deserved some success, but somehow I feel like the best games in-conference always came down to the great Seahawks-49ers rivalry. Let's hope that they are somehow able to pull themselves out of the mud and start playing their usual dominant style.

I have to wonder if it's time to replace Garoppolo. I'm not a 49ers fan so it isn't like I've seen every game with him under center but from what I have seen and hear he isn't a franchise QB without an exceptional run game. He has a game or two where he puts the team on his back and carries them to a win and then he has games like the Cardinals game or the Super Bowl where he misses the most important throw of the game and it leads to a lose. He kind of reminds me of Mark Sanchez in that respect. Obviously replacing him isn't easy but if the Niners happen to be in a position to get a QB in the first round, second should they pull the trigger and roll the dice?

@Noah Gaming the only place I can really see injuries affecting the team is on defense bro. No bosa and no ford straight up hurting the team. There’s like 0 pressure, when there is there’s no one to chase down rbs and qbs. We have guys flushing them out but they’re not fast armstead gives up containment damn near every play and Kerry Hyder man props to him but he’s always getting beat by pure athleticism. Now with a depleated secondary who wasn’t GREAT to begin you can see it all over the place. The only real reason Miami put up 40+ and it’s going to keep happening. Jimmy g is great but he’s no tb12 or Aaron Rodgers or russel Wilson I don’t see him putting the entire team on his back without the supporting cast and being very successful. I hope this team can really pull it together when we get people back. It sucks when a couple players go down and it exploits your entire teams weaknesses and the coaches refuse to adjust. Still running the same coverages still running the ball hard first half and throwing the rest of the game. Cmon shanahan

It's not only Jimmy playing awful, it's also Trent Williams suddenly becoming a turn-style against the Dolphins and the decision to go for Arik Armstead instead of Deforest Buckner. At the same time the inside of the offensive line has always been a weakness even last season.

My Brotha!! Couldn't of said it any better!. I also think losing Buckner was huge! I much would of rather paid him then Armstead. I know they didn't want to give Buck 20mil a year but he made everyone on the line better. Never thought id say this but Trent hasn't been playing well either. Are O Line took a big step back and all our CB are hurt. And yes Jimmy has to play better. Kyle system is set up for u not think so much, just go through your reads instead of dissecting it and trying to figure out what coverage your in. And are defense is now back to the 2017/2018 defense where we had no pass rush and and no corners fml but don't be surprised if the 9ers win tomorrow they are in desperation mode Alex u ever need an assistant all i do is watch film lol love your content keep it up bro!

How much do you think the COVID off-season and the lack of pre-season have effected Jimmy’s play? Knowing that a fair bit of chemistry is built during those times. It’s clear the rhythm isn’t there. But based on Jimmy’s play last season, it’s hard to understand why he’s so polar opposite this season. I, by no means, think he’s the best QB ever, but he’s for sure not playing at his usual level of play.
@AlexRollinsNFL

I think Jimmy is the product of the talent around him more than most QBs. He's basically average (which is still really good considering there are 32 spots in the world). When scheme, oline, receivers and RBs are clicking, he's solid. When 2020 happens, he's not

Jimmy is a very tough QB to have cause he isn't going to win you anything, but the alternative is pretty awful.
