I love my Honda dc2 type RX I would never sell it. I've had plenty of people throw me offers for her. buts she is mine not for sale😂. Feel bad for the people that got rid of there's. But that's really not the point. A lot of other 1.8 - 2.0 cars had the same or more power in '99-2000-2001. It's not about the power with this car, like he said, they completely revised everything within the chassis and suspension. It's also about when it makes the power, just like my 2001 AP1 S2000 did with 240hp. The only way to drive it staying way at the top of the RPM range and driving it like a race car. And it rewarded you better than any other fwd sport compact car I can think of.
@Daveyboy_RS33 жыл бұрын
@@_TheElMan yeah but sadly we never got the Civic type R in NA. For us the Integra type R was only true stripped out special edition race car for the road during that time. Not sure if you're from the UK or other part of the world that got these vehicles but over the last two decades, we've been quite envious of all the super limited, ultra stripped down pure little racers that never came here. We missed the original and earliest evos and Imprezas like the 22b and the tommy makkinen EVO VI, the escorts cosworth, and the MK 1 and MK 2 focus RS. the Peugot gtis, astras, cupras, meganes, etc are also vehicles we've never received. Many manufacturers had an elite ultra high performance version of there already more mass produce high performance hot hatch or sport compact, like ones that I mentioned, but we never got them. Same deal today with the Gr Yaris, I30 n, and the new model fiesta ST etc. Oh well I'm just venting LOL. Maybe you're from North America also who knows.

My 1994 Integra GSR is the funnest car I’ve ever owned. I’ve owned numerous cars... 2013 Corvette, 2009 Bullitt Mustang, Camaro, Civic, Probe, Ram 2500 Cummins, etc etc etc. This Acura although not a Type R, is a pure fun driving machine. I have owned my Integra GSR for five years and I will never sell this car! I enjoyed driving my Integra so much, I sold my 2013 Corvette because the Integra made my Corvette seem boring. It' a car that is fun even at legal speeds, and still very easy to drive at non-legal speeds. It's as good as FWD cars will ever get. Do you mean the production costs vs the MSRP? The '97-'98 ITRs didn't sell well at all. Most people didn't know what they were. They preferred the GS-R for the comfort features. Even insurance companies didnt know what they were. Rates were cheaper because they classified them as the RS model. '00-'01 was a different story. The Internet helped people realize what they were. Dealerships were able to mark them up. '01's sold very fast for a mark-up.

The One Take on brand royalty was quality. I agree wholeheartedly. I didn't like VWs much as a kid, but my first car ended up being a GTI and I love it and the community. I mostly love JDM cars, but I respect anything that is objectively a good car.

Love my 98 ITR, original engine with a jrsc at 13psi on e85. Fun fact, 97-98 usdm ITR's rev limiter is at 9k were the 00-01 usdm ITR's limiter is at 8.5k. between the 97-98 and 00-01 the intake cam's vtec lobe has a 3 degree difference in duration this makes the 00-01 a little torqueier.

Miss my 5th gen prelude a lot, great cruiser. My G37 is on another level but it's different. Same with my Jeep Comanche. Same with a Hyundai Accent I owned. All unique and fun in their own way.

I'm gonna echo some things that have already been said. 1 Zack I was not a fan in the past, but whatever you did, well done. Much better presentation. 2 I'm not a big fwd guy but the ITR is one of the exceptions, it is an excellent machine. While I am still a RWD fanboy in general living in canada and owning my first AWD car recently has woken me up to the different kinds of fun you can have with different kinds of cars. Keep it up.

Great advice from Zack about brand loyalty. It's not bad to like or even prefer a certain brand, but don't close yourself to the possibility that there may be something out there you like more. Couldn't agree more, which is why I have an old Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and a newer Mazda 6 GT. The two couldn't be more different, but offer an enjoyable experience in their own way.

I just took delivery of the TSX S-Type last week and damn near everything you said about the Type-R applies to my car, aside from the high revs and light weight. Though my S-Type feels a lot lighter than the than it really is. I drive to work on straightaway, twisted, highways and back roads and it's an absolute blast. I arrive at work every morning with a big smile on my face.

Zack, you and I shared the same mind set during our early days of getting involved with performance vehicles and thank you for sharing this. Today I drive a 2019 Audi RS 3 on fast country back roads much like Malibu Canyon roads I ran 1958-1973. But my vehicle of choice is certainly superior and my appreciation of such is likewise. Truly GREAT handling and performance automobiles today!

In the early 2000's me and my friends did a lot of hustling in street races with our 1g AWD DSM's and one of the best races we ever had was against a turbo Type R. We thought no way will a fwd be able to hang but the dude could drive and it pulled like a beast up top. Not surprised to see them jumping in value.

Fantastic review Zack, comparing this to Rob Ferretti’s horrific review of the S2000 that he posted recently just shows the difference between a real car enthusiast and a rich guy who plays with cars for views. Loved this and it just goes to show that a great car does not need to have 600hp and a massive torque band, fair play!

Great video Zack. I was stuck in the V8 RWD tribe for a long time until I test drove a Civic Si recently. There is something really great about a light car, that is quick and handles amazing.... and still gets good gas. Like you said, don't be close minded, almost all companies make good vehicles.

Like most cars of it's type, we had a hard time selling them new due to the price variance to GS-R. I always appreciated not having a sunroof taking up precious headroom.

I used to chase a good freind of mine's 2001 Type R around with my 2002 WRX when they were new. Two truly amazing cars for the time. On the rare occasions I got to drive that car I really gained an appreciation for it's abilities. A truly capable performer out of the box. As far as I know he still has it. That's the kind of car you don't sell unless you absolutely have to. Really enjoyed the take on it(Pun Intended).

Excellent video, excellent host, excellent car, and an excellent message at the end. Variety is the spice of life. If you are a car enthusiast, enjoy all the many flavors that interesting cars come in. These days they are such few and far in between that things like brand shouldn't deter your interest. Well done, Zack!

Had a few drives in one about fifteen years ago and it’s still fixed in my memory as the best handling front wheel drive car I’ve ever driven, way more compliant than suspension than the mk7 fiesta ST or even the mk8 version that i drive now

The double wishbone suspension makes a huge difference. Honda moved away from it for their later cars and lost some of what made them great to drive. Nothing else in the segment seems to use that style. Everyone is macpherson struts and rear beam axles now. Proud owner of a 98 GS, even without VTEC or LSD, this car is a blast to drive. Love downshifting from 4th to 3rd.

Great job Zach! I'm happy that Acura gives us the ILX now so we won't ever miss the RSX Type S or ITR. I know we ha e the Civic Type R but that is a boat compared to this coupe. Happy I got to own one of these. Never knew it would be as valuable as it is today. Such cheap consumables too.

Interesting? The Fk8 a boat? If the CTR is a boat then the ILX is a cruise liner. Current ILX are only automatics. As a former 01’ ITR owner, it lacks the 6 gear for highway cruising, cruise control, ride comfort/adjustability and flat out speed the Fk8 has The CTR has 6 speeds, amazing brakes and cornering (no body roll) for a fwd. Factory spec wise, the CTR checkmates the ITR as a daily and the track. Vtec crossover? I have a dc2 and Dc5 for that. For around $40k, a brand new CTR is a great buy.

It's getting so expensive because...like a lot of rare objects, the people that can afford them have started to collect them. Limited and numbered production, a car that many Honda enthusiasts of a certain age longed for but could not afford. A car your friend might have owned or perhaps you knew of a random guy that had one but mostly read about them in magazines or watched the JDM versions race around race tracks in Japan on the infamous "Best Motoring" videos back in the day. A car that had a reputation for being faster than so many cars that it definitely should not have been faster than at the time (in a straight line or otherwise). A car that was so often stolen and stripped of all it's components (which could then quickly and seamlessly be bolted on to almost any other Honda product that came before it) that just trying to keep one safe would become a job of it's own. A car that required a certain type of owner to realize this was not just your run of the mill Integra and you should care for it accordingly. And now, out of those limited production and individually numbered cars, there are most certainly few left (in their original configuration and color of your preference). As such, the chance now to own one has also become an equally limited opportunity. Unfortunately the price tag on nostalgia is always and only going up.

Wow Zack, fantastic review dude. Especially near the end of the video. I resonate so much with this. I was born and raised outside of Detroit, muscle city. All I wanted was a muscle car and I thought tuners were stupid. Fast, big body V8s are king. Then I moved to the east coast and got more involved in the tuner scene. I have changed into enjoying something more agile than brute force, straight line power. Does it mean I hate muscle cars now? NO! But like you said, every manufacturer has good and bad. I was the first one in my family to get a Japanese car. Everyone was skeptical, but now everyone loves it and wants to drive it haha. Good review again Zack.
