As an SCA guy I have shown up to events with basically all my gear on my person in as period a fashion as I could manage at the time. Cool to see a blend of living history and bush craft so seeing a fantasy kit in the same vein is pretty cool. Do you ever get to spar with people doing other arts? I love testing my longsword and rapier skills against other martial arts when ever I can.

Thanks. I'm glad you can appreciate it. And yes, I do get to spar against people with different weapons and styles. At our last gathering I sparred against sword and shield, longsword and a spear. It's great!

@@cortharynvinthorian4450 that's awesome, I often end up matching weapons in tournaments, but I feel like it's more emersive to spar mixed weapons as I would likely wanna limit how many things are on me if I had to carry it all with me.

Ill give the bedroll a try and let u know. Since I wield a longsword it might not be an issue, but id like to also think i could drop the roll quickly before getting into anything just by flipping open a single buckle. However I have yet to test that so I will let u know. thanks for the video!

Having a long sword, a bedroll might offset the imbalance the longsword creates. I look forward to hearing how your test goes.

I like to think that there's no kit or parts of a kit/tools and items that are the same for everyone. A ranger kit, or a kit for anything else, is always tailored to the individual, which makes it always differ from another's ranger kit.

I completely agree. As in most things we all have to find what works best for us as an individual.

LARP events that allow real steel swords? what event is this?
@cortharynvinthorian44502 жыл бұрын
I've never been to a LARP event. I go to Ren Faires that allow real steel. I get together with other people (The Rangers of Trails End) for gatherings where we train all these things. And I do a lot of camping in the woods with my kit. No LARP though.

there are a lot of larps that use steel, when i did viking reenactment, we had larps using steel, the larps usually a viking theme, but also we used our same weapons for other fantasy larps, main thing is for safety we always had helmets, and didnt do at night...and they were within the society, not open to public etc

So, this is a "let's play pretend " for adults?
@cortharynvinthorian4450 Жыл бұрын
To a degree yes. The Fantasy Ranger part is obviously "fantasy". The skills involved are real. I practice Pekiti-Tirsia Kali. The swords are real. I know how to use them. I practice archery. The bow is real. I know how to use it. The survival gear and skills are real. I practice the skills and test the kit regularly. I just don't wear mundane clothes while I do it.

@@cortharynvinthorian4450 some people have no appreciation for RPG, reenactments, cosplay, historical recreation, living history, its great that the last few decades have much such hobbies more mainstream, the number of people that were mentally harmed by being forced to be "normal" , its crabs in a bucket, people that have a mortgage, 9-5 job they are trapped in cant appreciate other people having fun when they dont get to any more...you have awesome kit!!!
