@cortharynvinthorian4450
@cortharynvinthorian4450 4 ай бұрын
It is similar. I'd say the difference is Legolas has his swords directly in the center. Which makes it harder to both draw and sheathe them. Also his harness is 3 point attachment. Which didn't distribute the weight very well for me. His variation may have some advantages I'm not aware of.

How do you feel using Sharkalope for FMA? Is the blade too heavy? How is the balance?
@cortharynvinthorian4450
@cortharynvinthorian4450 6 ай бұрын
The Sharkalopes are the lightest ZT blades. They were inspired by FMA. The balance is great. The overall weight is a bit more than I'd like. But the heavy handle is how they accomplish the great balance. I haven't yet found anything better. At least not for me.
@mnyee1995
@mnyee1995 6 ай бұрын
@cortharynvinthorian4450 Thanks for the reply. I'm also practicing FMA and trying to find a good sword. Have you ever used a traditional Filipino sword such as ginunting, talibong or bolo which usually used for FMA? If yes how is Sharkalope compared to them? I'm aware that sharkalope is the lightest among ZT medium swords but close to 2 lbs seems a bit too heavy. I'm worried it'll mess up the wrists when twirling.
@cortharynvinthorian4450
@cortharynvinthorian4450 6 ай бұрын
@@mnyee1995 I like the talibong and the ginunting. I've never held a bolo. The talibong and the ginunting are lighter and have longer blades than the Sharkalopes. The Sharkalopes however offered some protection for your hand. Not much protection for the hand. But still more than the more traditional blades. I really liked the Sandibar. But it was slightly too long for me to back draw. The weight of the Sharkalopes doesn't affect my wrists. The handles are the heavy part. So there's not a lot of forward weight to cause wrist issues. My shoulders get fatigued before anything else. Lighter blades would definitely help with that.

Thank you for posting this. I've been going through and through trying to find the right material for my Ruana Cloak. Why did you choose to have the blades face inward? From watching it looks like you have a bigger chance of accidentally cutting yourself when you draw. If they faced outward and you accidentally tapped the side of your head or neck on the drawstroke you'd get hit with the back of the sword instead of the blade. Was there a specific reason for your current set up? You've obviously spent a lot of time thinking about it.
@cortharynvinthorian4450
@cortharynvinthorian4450 7 ай бұрын
I chose to face the blades inward because the handles curve inward. When you reach over your shoulder. You're hands will naturally be in the correct position to hold the inward curved handles properly. It would be much harder to have a secure grip on the handles if they were facing out. This would make it hard to efficiently control the the blades. Making it more dangerous to draw or sheathe them. I chose to put them on my back as opposed to my waist. Because they are secure and out of the way at all times. I can walk through the woods, Sit down and just about anything. Without having to have a controlimg hand on my swords or taking them off as hip sheathes require.

I wouldn't say larping experience. As we don't do any role play. But we do spar with the foam swords. That way we don't have to wear a lot of protective gear. As for the length of sword that can be drawn from your back. That depends on the length of your arm and how the sword is held on your back. I can draw up to a 20 inch blade from my back. With a standard sheathe. If the top of the sheathe is even with or lower than my shoulder. If you use a sword hanger. You can really have any length of sword.

I just love this cloak. After I saw Gandalf wears one, that just sealed the deal. I think I would put buttons on the front that you can use to turn it into a blanket, or just button up the front to hold it closed. It is way easier to use the ruana cloak than an over the head poncho because if you have a hat, hood, long hair, etc you can still put on or take off the ruana. The customizability and simplicity of it is my favorite though. There are many ways to wear it depending on the weather or how cold you are. You can make it as narrow or as wide as you need. I love it.

I have to agree with you on the Ruana cloak's customization and multi function aspect. Since making this video. The Ruana has become my new favorite cloak. I made it wider again. It seems to be useable as a blanket this way. I have considered putting buttons or toggles on it as you suggested. I think I'll make a second one. And try the buttons. The Ruana definitely works best with my back draw harness. As all other cloaks leave a gap between me and my harness. Where as the Ruana allows me to throw one of the front pieces behind me. Closing off the gap other cloaks leave. Thanks for the insight.

The difference for me is that my arms are not long enough to draw a sword longer than 20". Not with this set up anyway. At 21 inches the tip of the blade doesn't clear the end of the sheathe before my range of motion (arm length) ends. One could alter the sheath to allow for longer blade. However, I find it difficult to wield two longer blades. So the 20 inch blade length max is not an issue for me. My swords have a 17" blade. This works out well for me.

@@cortharynvinthorian4450 not trying to be mean. I just don't understand it. Like I said I understand how reenactment of civil war helps people understand the history. What I don't get is the fantasy dress up. Whatever makes you happy. Do you have a bunch of people? Do you follow a certain canon? I love lord of the rings book. I've read it many many times.

@@richardhenry1969 I get it. It's fine that you don't get it. I think the difference in this and the reenactment thing is that I'm not doing it to help people understand anything. I'm doing it because I very much like the medieval fantasy realm so to speak. It's the closest thing to being in LoTR or the world of DnD I can ever get. I like bush craft and survival as well. So I incorporate those things into my hobby. The people who do the reenactments are passionate about the civil war. Their reenactments are how they express that. They could do the reenactments in modern clothes. But they don't. They play dress up. Because any aspect of it you can replicate makes the passion for the thing more rewarding. There are many groups dedicated to this sort of thing. My group "The Rangers of Trails End" is very small six people currently. There's a Facebook page for the group. We are having a gathering this weekend. There is a much larger group up North somewhere. They have something like 40 people. "Rangers of the wilds" they have a Facebook page. there is a huge following on the "Rangers of Middle Earth" Facebook page. There are people in that group that are into all different variations of this hobby. Some just dress up. Some do the whole subversive Middle Earth Reenactment. I personally don't follow any specific cannon. There are some though who follow the Middle Earth cannon pretty strictly. I first found this idea through Dungeons and Dragons. Then Lord of the Rings. I do very much like LoTR. But I'd say I follow more of a DnD/Pathfinder guideline. It's far more open to interpretation. I started making videos because people would ask me the same questions a lot. The first and most common was " can you draw those swords from there". That's why I made the first video. More questions led to more videos.

@@richardhenry1969 You're welcome. I don't mind answering any questions about it. As I said, that's the reason I made this channel.

I don't know how historically accurate it would be but have you considered a bandolier for general purpose? It'd certianly be an authentic piece of kit. Easy to get on and off too.

A bandolier is not a bad idea. As I already have a harness with swords and quiver. I don't think I would be able to add a bandolier on top of that. I have considered adding a pouch or 2 to the chest straps of my harness. So somewhat similar to a bandolier.

A ranger can never have too many pouches. I just posted my own video for making pouches. Ravenswood is such a great source.
