Why the Beaches Closest to Taiwan are Empty

China has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and yet if you go there, they're practically empty. So, where are all the people?
Well, some of the white sand beaches on Fujian Province's Pingtan island happen to be nearby the closest place to Taiwan on the Chinese mainland. Turns out, that's where all the people are!
The 'closest place' is actually made up of three small islands, which are 68 nautical miles away from Taiwan, hence why the place is also known as the 68 nautical mile scenic area. But before that, I also stopped off at what can only be described as an unknown paradise spot, not far from the 68 nautical mile scenic area.
I went to Pingtan via China's sea train, and this is the second travel vlog of three that I filmed whilst there. I also chased AND FOUND bioluminescent blue tears during my trip. If you want to check out those videos, you can, right here:

The reason beach is so empty could be that Chinese people believe that it’s dangerous to swim during the 7th month of the Chinese Calendar. The month of ghosts visiting ‘ ghost portal opens’
