C5 is my favorite generation because I am still a sucker for pop-up headlights and it's actually affordable to most people. I love the C7's too but around me they cost just as much used today as they did when they were new. I don't like the C8's at all because I just can't get over no manual transmission. I currently own a car just like the one in this video (2000 black convertible with manual trans). Only mine has 155,000 miles and counting. Love the car.

I've owned a 2000, six speed coupe for 7 years now, and have abused it daily. It's been the most durable car I've ever owned. Sure, after over the miles, I've had to replace stuff, always with the best available parts. These cars have such great aftermarket support from racing and engine companies. It still outperforms 90% of the performance cars on the road today

Glad to hear yours has treated you well! I can confidently say i've abused mine as well and other than some electrical gremlins it has stayed rock solid! I love the C5!

I got an “02” a year ago, with 49,000 miles on it, but somehow almost every part of it was worn out, ended up replacing the oil pressure sensor, harmonic balancer, water pump, radiator, went to a glass mat battery, found needle bearings blown out of pilot bearing, had to pull the whole rear end, to replaced the $20 part, changed clutch, rear main seal and rebuilt torque tube while out, replaced o-rings on manual transmission, gear box and rear axial, new tires and exhaust. You’re likely not going to spend under 20k and not have to get dirty with one of these, quitting was not an option for me, luckily it was fun work and I still love the car!

This video was well done. I’ve owned several Corvettes. C3, a few C4’s, C6, C7, and now C8. For some reason there was something that just didn’t grab me about the C5. No real reason I just didn’t care for it. Weird I know. Cheers!

The C5 has aged very well IMO. It offered great bang for the buck back then and still does today. If someone doesn't want to spend $50k+ on a fun weekend toy then the C5 is a great choice. They are still great performers bone stock, plus the aftermarket is huge for the LS1/LS6. Like he said, drop $8k into a base C5 or Z06 and you'll easily bring the performance up to modern standards.

Which is why I believe it's the greatest generation they ever built. Its price point for the performance & potential is second to none.

@appleautos Жыл бұрын
Sure thing! I noticed when I drove it that the A/C was not working (common on these C5s, usually an easy fix with the climate cluster). I also noticed the ignition lock cylinder acting up a little bit (also another common issue on these; mine has been a long-standing issue on my personal Z06).

Interesting video...been looking for a Vette (last one I had was the 79) but confused by whether c5 or c6 GS is the way to go...thanks for the info (and confusing me further lol)
@appleautos Жыл бұрын
I was torn between a C6 GS & A C5 Z06. I ended up going with the C5. The C5 is a lot more raw driving experience. Much more harsh in the z06 trim. The grand sport is a much easier car to drive more often.

Personally I prefer the C4 but the C5 is my next best favorite. To me the C5 feels like the last real Corvette and a lot for me has to do with the popup headlights. Adding regular headlights made the car look goofy instead of slick and mean. The C8 is pretty mean looking but it's too much like a European car now.

No way no how is the C5 the greatest generation of Corvette. It was a huge step forward, for sure. But it did not vault itself into the supercar class. Only the C8 has done that and it only keeps getting better. Every generation of Vette is superior to its predecessors, that's not a debatable.

@@adrianleusink1970 all copied by Ferrari technology 🥱 it runs like a Ferrari it sounds like a Ferrari it’s not a super car it’s technically a kit car but since Chevy released it it’s a “c8”. But no way no form it’s a corvette. If they had actually done the legwork and spent money into research making their own technology it would’ve been amazing but since corporations are greedy they look for the easy way most profit way out. C8 ruined what could’ve been a legacy. Instead they bought a Ferrari and just reversed engineered it which is lame. If they made the c5 with scraps of money of a program they could’ve made the c8 a real supercar with an actual budget an actual supported program from Chevy. So your lame basic supported facts is not impressive and nothing screams revolutionized.
