A comment on the water resistance of the F-91w: I have tested all of my Casio watches in a pool for an extensive period (an F-91w, an F-84w, a CA-53w, and an A700), and ALL OF THEM as it turns out are waterproof, not just splash resistant. They all functioned submerged without trouble, and even operation of the pushers (against Casio's recommendation) caused no trouble. I even did a math equation on the CA-53w while underwater! Casio is notorious for under rating their aquatic performance.

I imagine this is because the buttons can wear out and lose their waterproofness. If you use the buttons a lot there would be the risk that could happen. Japanese companies tend to be very careful about making promises if they can be false under somewhat unlikely circumstances. Even if those promises would be true 99% of the time.

This watch also allows you to set 4 time zones. You can hit just the SEARCH button to cycle through the 4 time zones. You can make any of them the main time zone by pressing the ADJUST and LIGHT buttons at the same time. This is a VERY NICE feature for a travel watch.

another reason the Casio World Time is referred to as the Casio Royale and associated with James Bond is its' passing resemblance to a watch that James Bond actually wore in Octopussy, the Seiko G757 Sports 100. The Casio round display in the upper left corner resembles the Seiko layout. Since the G757 is generally not available, the Casio is a good proxy for a watch that James Bond might actually have worn!

I have only four reasons: Cheap (easy to replace). Timer (I use it a lot in my work). 10 atm water resist 10 years battery (no need to open the watch "ever" so the water resist is also at least 10 years).

Just watched the video wearing my Casio Royale World Timer (All black 🖤). I recently took a road trip on my motorcycle and took 4 of my watches with me (Orient Ray 2, Bambino V2, Seiko SRPE43 and Casio Royale World Timer). I spent so much time worrying about the safety of my watches that I couldn't enjoy most of it. I made a mistake. Silver lining? I wore the Casio the most. Yesterday I picked one up on clearance at a big box store for $7. I was going to clean them out, but I saw a couple kids looking at them as well, so I left a few for them. I've got a decent (14) collection of G-Shocks, an Oceanus T-2610, and a variety of of other Casio's. So I am a bit of a Casio fan, but this one somehow slipped under my radar. I am really liking this watch. It's very legible and comfortable. And it just looks really cool.

I really enjoyed your review. It was a change from other typical watch reviews which are all about the materials, movements, and size. Yours seemed to feature how the watch exists in the "environment", which was interesting. Though having said that, I would have liked to know a bit about the sizing, e.g., fit on the wrist (under a shirt), and the ability to see the display (Too small? or Large enough to see easily). But then that would be a typical review. :)

I never thought I would wear 2 watches but I an pretty tactical. I wear a $40 Amazfit Bio S on my left wrist and a Casio World Time bronze gold on my right wrist. The Amazfit Bip S has watch faces that are made like Casio World Time.

An excellent alternative if you want the 91w form factor but want to look less like a bad guy is the A168. Still $20 or less, stainless steel band, it's slightly larger and features an electroluminescent backlight.

There is only one big downside. Silver colored plastic, which turns white over time. The metal bracelet is extremely cheap and annoys me a lot. What I am saying is, GET THE BLACK ONE with a normal strap and black plastic as god intended.

I know what you mean about visiting dodgy countries with low income and high crime rates (especially murder) that's why I would never wear one of my high end pieces in the USA.

One concern you didn't seem to mention is the potential when hoisting shoulder straps over your shoulder, and other travel related activities, of snagging your watch and having the strap come loose, which usually leads to your watching hitting the floor hard, and maybe being lost. When I travel I wear an orange Seiko SKX-007 on a fabric NATO strap. That way if one pin gets bent and comes out of socket, the watch remains on my wrist. Regarding travelling with a watch-icon, I once greeted some hikers in the Great Smokey Mountain national park and noticed one of them, a senior citizen, had on a Rolex submariner. I mentioned it before our brief conversation ended. (I always take a break to talk to passersby on the trails). He said he wore it all the time, never took it off. It was a very expensive TOOL watch, and I guess he justified owning it by always wearing it. I was just a little surprised he didn't have a sacrificial watch to wear in the back-country like that. My tool-watch is a Hamilton Khaki.

The funny thing about the airport metal detection is whenever I travel (U.S. Domestic) with my Seiko Presage , they never ask me to take off my watch. I point to it and they say it’s fine and I just walk right through. So not sure if it matters these days if your watch is metal or not.

Great video, thanks! I picked up one of these this week. After removing a lot of the text on the case and face plate, I really like it. FYI... the "Casio Royale" nickname comes from its resemblance to the Seiko G757 worn by Roger Moore in "Octopussy". 🙂 I'll also put a plug out there for the Casio AE-2100W. Exact same functions as the 1200, but round case, mineral crystal (instead of acrylic), and 200m water resistant.

I also enjoyed your comment about dressing well for travel. My late older brother taught me this. We both traveled quite a bit for business over our careers, and he told me if you want to be treated better and receive better service in general, dress well. From my experience I believe it to be true. Airline personnel are trained to treat their frequent flyers with a higher level of service, and I think they must subconsciously make a connection between a better dressed passenger and a frequent flyer. This is great presentation. I'm a fan of Bond and I have a Rolex Sub but I recently have come to the same realization that you have here. One thing that you did not mention, it is in fact more accurate than a Rolex costing $15k. Being in Bond movie is also a great reason in itself to own it. When you consider that the amount a thief could realize - is many years of working at their job. That explains the reason why persons would risk so much and put their self at risk. I have heard that a gang in Hong Kong at one time that would use a cleaver to chop off someone's Rolex walking down the street at night. I did not know that about Osama!! very funny. If there is gang involved, they will likely have a very effective plan to steal it and they don't care how much it might hurt you.

The newer counterfeit F91 shows "Casio" too. However, it's stamped "assembled in Japan" on the back, while real one says Thailand. Also, doesn't keep steady time at all. Text printed on dial is less defined, one can sort of tell overall. That said, I recommend W-800H instead, as it's not kid sized, cost almost the same, and is probably the best bottom dollar watch I ever had. That is, unless one want to "splurge" of a Casio Royale which is considerably more elaborate.

The Casio DW-291 is my designated travel watch over the AE-1200, for one reason - the 200m water resistance. Otherwise, it does everything the AE1200 does. The Casio Royale is still pretty great. I plan on modding mine to a steel case/sapphire crystal.

When it came time for the "demonstration" and i saw the big tree trunk in the middle of the shot together with the Vostok i thought to myself: "he's gonna throw it against the tree, isn't he?" I'm glad you didn't 😂 My personal travel watch is a Casio Duro on a NATO strap. I like doing watersports and timing my time spent in the sun, so the 200WR and bezel come in handy. It looks really nice too. But as you mentioned, from afar it looks like a submariner which might be a problem, but i do find the NATO strap dresses it down a bit making it less of an eye catcher.

After buying the AE 1200 I went on to buy even more expensive watches but none of them match the value for money you get with the Royale. The only problem is that the resin case will discolor overtime with usage. Hope casio releases a more expensive 1200 with mineral glass and stainless stell case

My travel watches are Gshock Dw5600 and M6150 because of airport metal detector doors. In Europe, the sensitivity settings for metals is a bit higher.....but I always get through with my resin Gshock

For the lume and watch case concerns: I bought a copycat brand that looks like this watch, without the world time function unfortunately, but makes up for it with better EL illumination and what seems like a metal case. Have a few in different metallic colors which is fun to switch up for daily use, but in the end, I always grab the resin original one for travel still.

The world time function also has a quick swap function to change between the world time (the timezone you are traveling to) and the home time (press both top buttons at the same time when on the desired time zone) and also has quick access to the 4 configurable timezones accessible with the lower right button when in time mode.. These are both very usefull when traveling (especially for those who travel frequently between the same timezones)..

My grandpa got me this watch when it came out in 2012 so I could keep track of the time as a new freshman in high school. I never really wore it, I wasn’t into watches at the time. So of course, I lost it pretty quickly. Fast forward to 2023 and I see one of my coworkers wearing the exact same watch. “Oh yeah I’ve had mine since sophomore year of high school, 2012. Best watch ever. I just got a new one this morning lol I plan to mod tf out of it. So crazy how I treated this diamond like a piece of coal. I’ve caught the watch bug BAD. So far all I have are Casios, and I don’t really feel like I’ll need anything else.

I want to add a warning/caveat: It is very hard, for me at least, to recall exactly what the four buttons do in various situations. I certainly recognize the difficulty of designing a user interface for a watch. But just want to point out a difficulty. Modes?, Buttons? ??? Argh!
