Why the Caster Class Is Basically FGO's Freestyle Mode

Casters tend to be (ignoring summer and Santa variants as well as Fate OCs) -- 1. Legendary/Mythical figures associated with magic and sorcery - Merlin, Tamamo no Mae, Circe. 2. Actual historical figures who've made a significant cultural impact through art or inventions - Mozart, Shakespeare, Babbage. 3. Enigmatic historical figures who Fate reinterprets to add mysticism - Anastasia, Chen Gong, Geronimo. Although Fate will often blend 2 & 3 together. Murasaki Shikabu studied Onmyou arts on top of her renown as a writer, Da Vinci claims to have studied magecraft when they were alive, while Izumo no Okuni was a monster hunter who used her Kabuki career as a front -- stuff like that. Since there's a lot of culturally significant individuals and/or popular historical figures with vague histories they can reinterpret Fate can be more eclectic in their approach than they are with, say, Sabers or Lancers. Especially with the core concept of Fate being that the mystical side of the world is actively hidden from regular people, it lets for a lot of "history got it wrong"-style plots and characters.

I think the 'rule' for casters is "Can influence others without touching them directly" hence why masters of the arts qualify, as well as scientists and tacticians who's work inspired those who came after them.

The weirdest Caster servant must be Sieg from Apocrypha. He was Siegfried, a Saber, gained Frankenstein Galvanism wich technically made him a Berserker but is a Caster simply because he was an homunculi wich are supposed to be afine yo Magic yet hos Magic stat is actually lower than that of Siegfried and his stats as Sieg as pretty low but as both Fafnir and Siegfried are the same as the original so he should be somewhat of a Saber or at least a Ruler since Sieg watched over the grail like rulers do and even over the holy grail war that happened inside it in the Apocrypha event. There are also what i call fake Casters that even tho are basically casters they are not part of the class like Semiramis and Osakabehime who have their own territory creation and when inside it, are even superior in magecraft than most Casters or Foreigners who are technically casters as just like one they use magic-like powers outside normal understanding but instead of magic from our world they are from outside own universe or even magicians understanding so Foreigners are the weirdest possible Casters thst aren't even a caster

​@Rogue-a-Pogue Has to do with the fact that his design is literally based on the result of his studies. The lion comes from that logo you use to see on movie splash screens, while is BP is literally Fox opening signature. Meanwhile inventors are rolled into the caster class.

Some interesting "concept" that could be cool to turn into a Caster: Uncle Sam, Mother Russia, Fatherland (Germany). Maybe they'll boost those servants from their land and debuff others.

Its weird for me, that whe have such a low number of caster, who fits into the classical wizard trope. Mean: wearing staff, has robes and using element magic or at last has magic beams. Cu, Merlin and castoria feels to be the only one, who fit that. Medea is near, but her NP is a dagger attack. Merlin attack with a sword to. And Castoria is hitting the enemie a lot with her staff. The most wizard Chara whe have is Morgan. And she is a berserker.^^

I just had a thought! I think if Shiva ever gets summoned in Chaldea and gets asked regrading the strongest class I think he'll mention Caster and Avenger. Just imagine a Shirou faced Shiva laughing Kuhaha and casually dropping Mahapralaya as his quick attack, it will be completely n^ts.😅

Well since Caster's are infamous of having almost no fighting capabilities on their own you can practically put any famous figure who wasn't a fighter in here(like a famous diplomat,scientist or you know.....a president)

In a Normal Grail war they are indeed the weakest. > Knight classes have Magic resistances. > Their strong NP's which are comprised of either Kaiju's, City/Country Busters, Bounded Field Cities/Temples/Castles requires alot of Mana and need constant Supply. > Thier method of fighting is either Cheese the enemy at a distance or overwhelm them with Minions to either take them out or Escape. These things in turn make them predictable and can easily be targeted first because once they unleash their NP it will require a coalition of servants to take them down.

except sieg, i dont see any caster that doesnt fit on caster classification even geronimo, this video is the first time i heard someone saying geronimo shouldnt be caster (my first thought of geronimo is a shaman which should fit into caster) the works (music, story, invention, etc) of famous figure often seems magical

Geronimo's spiritual background would qualify him for Caster, yes. But what he's most famous for is fighting on horseback, so Rider would seem more obvious. He'd also qualify for Archer, though given that he used an actual bow he'd be unusual among Archers.

Okay, this one’s totally my fault, lol. So, I’m using a voice maker to narrate these videos, and when I typed "Daikokuten," the pronunciation was way off (since it’s a Japanese name). I tried typing it as "Daikoku-ten," and surprisingly, it sounded somewhat better. So, I just left it like that. By the way, the last "Daikokuten" pronunciation is what happens if I don’t change the spelling to "Daikoku-ten."
