I had originally planned to fly to Texas, but a storm rerouted the plane to New Orleans. So I rented a car, and went on a spontaneous five-hour drive to Houston.
The next day, @father_david_michael and I embarked on an eight mile procession as part of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage. The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage is an endeavor in the United States where Catholics are gathering together to walk across the country from church to church in Eucharistic Procession.
The Eucharistic Revival is a three-year initiative (2022-2025) launched by the U.S. Catholic bishops. It’s aimed at renewing the Catholic faith in the United States by fostering a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ present in the Eucharist.
The National Eucharistic Congress is a major gathering of Catholic clergy, religious, and laypeople in the United States. It’s a chance to deepen our faith in the Eucharist. It is taking place in Indianapolis on July 17-21. You can learn more at @eucharistic_revival
If you are not Catholic and have questions: Catholics believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. One main passage that supports the belief, aside from this being the belief of all Christians for the initial 1,500 years of Christianity, comes from the Last Supper itself, where Jesus says of the bread and wine, “This is my body...This is my blood” (Matthew 26:26-28). Catholics understand this literally, that the substance changes while the appearances remain bread and wine. Additionally, passages like John 6:51-58, where Jesus speaks of giving his flesh and blood for eternal life, are seen as foreshadowing the Eucharist. To learn more please visit catholic.com
