The plants you find in the depths also resemble ferns, which is fitting for how ancient they are, I always thought that the floaty bits are spores released by them and the mushrooms, especially the big ones that spawn puffshrooms

Great vid! I definitely felt the deep sea vibes in the depths, so seeing the actual real world equivalents is cool! One thing, I believe the Deep Fireflies may also be referencing the sorta-cryptid of "rods" or "skyfish", where a bird or bug flies across a camera, and multiple wing flaps appear on the same exposure / frame.

I love the ominous brass sound that plays when you enter the depths

Thank you for pointing out these similarities, super interesting! I feel like so much of this seems so very similar that its hard for me to "just" call this a theory. I hope some developers will maybe say something about this some day to confirm it.

aaa wow I never would have made that connection between the depths and the ocean!! I always felt like the depths were very fungal(??) but was curious about how some of the rock textures tied into that, since they looked almost like fossils. But them being inspired by the ocean totally makes sense!! I loved all the cool connections you pointed out, AND I got to learn new things about deep sea life, amazing :D

I think the similarities pointed out here are very interesting. Also, nice touch adding that brassy sound effect on the title card!

Awesome video!! I had no idea there were so many similarities between the deep ocean and the depths! I always assumed that the particles in the air were like spores of some kind, I never considered marine snow. The creatures you showed are absolutely wild, I need to go down the deep ocean rabbit hole haha
